Hi Chris, I'm from Brazil and I'm loving watching your videos, I started to follow you in Vietnam videos because I love seeing other cultures. I have an uncle who lives in Lima, would love to see videos of the ruins of Peru. I hope you like Peru and be very well received. The people of Peru are great, they have always treated me very well and are very friendly. I hope that one day you will come to Brazil too and get to know a little of our culture and learn to speak Portuguese. I'm sure a lot of people have subscribed to your channel wherever you go. It is a very interesting channel. Chris around the world... Love from BR ❤️

Hi Victoria. Thanks so much for watching! Glad to have a frequent viewer from Brazil! I actually was planning to come to Brazil after Peru but many countries have restrictions on people coming from Brazil so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to come this time. Where in Brazil are you from?

@@chrismixlewis I'm from the governor's island or Ilha do governador in portuguese, which is in Rio de Janeiro it's where the international airport is. It's okay if you can't come early. When all these problems are over, you can come without fear of harming yourself. And preferably take a tour all over Brazil. There are many great places that are not publicized by the world media. I'm sure you'll like to come live for a while and to explore each region well, it would be good if you stayed at least two weeks in each state. One year and you will become Brazilian. 😁😊👍

A tip ( propina ) is not obligatory. It is up to you. The range could be from 2 ( for 1 person) to 6 soles ( for 2 or more persons). No more. You gave them 20 soles, a lot as a tip
@chrismixlewis
@chrismixlewis 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s fine, I was making this video and they let me film, so 20 soles is a small price to pay. It seems like a lot but I will make that and a lot more from these videos, so it’s only fair I share some with them

You have a spanish accent instantaneously. You don't sound like an American beginner. So impressed with your Vietnamese and Chinese and your genuine interest and skill...most often your good heart. That's the best one can do besides the CIA FBI training in languages. A side note...when I first travelled in the remote parts of Mexico 30 years ago ,where bartering still occurred in Copper Canyon, I used to give out money lavishly to kids, adults. Then the well traveled Germans told me not to do so. You change their infra structure. The man used to go to work and support the family. The women raised kids and live peacefully. But when the Americans settled in, they paid the maids well to work for them and so the wives no longer wanted to stay home and raise the children. The husband starts getting jealous, angry and beat up the wives. On my end I've seen many families where husbands own a farm, are teachers but left for the US to make a quick buck for 3,4 years and return home to pay off the farm. Both parents then stay home watching the kids and have a casual taco stand. Now, I give the children dulces and pay more for the food the parents sell. I believe there is a level of graciousness and hospitality in showing your home. It is universal. I don't see charging the people or asking for donation is appropriate.

if you wondered why were the homes built out of quincha (local material used since the pre-hispanic era, basically a mix of wood and cane which is then covered in mud) it's because these places are, as you could've guessed, very poor. gaining 1300 soles for a village resident is, i'd say, more than enough to live, but you can also see how those places are basically unassisted by the state, which explains the conditions of buildings and the lack of road maintenance by the state. also, a bit of a spanish tip, when you want to thank multiple people, just say "gracias a todos", "thanks to y'all", basically, and the way we say "hi" when we enter a store or some sort of commercial building is "buenas", or you could make it a bit more formal by adding the time of day, "buenos dias", good morning and "buenas tardes", good afternoon. don't say "buenas noches" though cause you'll sound like a kid telling their mother that they're going to sleep, you can just say "buenas" as a way to greet someone and you'll sound more natural though.
