I Crashed the F-35B RC Jet model | Build series, How To Build the ThrustVector

This model was way to heavy, 3,6 kilos. the perfect weight should be arround 3,2 kilo's. but i tested this to tell you this is too heavy. Thanks to the bambulab X1 carbon i've managed to reprint the the model in one week. super happy with this briljant printer.

🎉I do like watching your progression on these jets. Such wonderful advances in materials and printers . Makes me wonder what I might have built , had I these tool at your age. My favorite personal project was a dragon , yes I said dragon. My youngest son came to me needing a project for school, it must be made from scrap materials? Fortune was with the lad , as a new appliance had been well packed in foam, scrap. Since I built planes scrap balsa by the box. Last scrap a spar from a kite, which lost its fight with a tree. Body aero dynamic, wings half bat half gull . Dad can we finish by tomorrow ? Why ? That's when it's do....ouch! He napped off at the work table, at 3 am the dragon was almost finished, in my hand it felt funny, like it was meant to fly ... so I tossed it off the deck. Tail heavy , I took it back inside, on the bench lay a single screw, it felt right so in the dragons mouth it went couple ofvturns with a screwdriver ...back to the deck it flew. Back inside the boy was put to bed, I finished the paint, scales why did it have to have scales? Then while looking for a way to sit it while paint dried, I found thevclaws on the front legs would hang the dragon. Next day a sleepy boy showed off his dragon, that evening it started parents calling and emailing wanting to buy a dragon. I converted the rough drawings to cad to pdf, and posted to school buliten board . Explaining I did not have the time to build, more. That was a fib as the next version had aerons, next a tail that moved then the neck and head, then 5 fail ornathopters . The original hung in the boys room for several years before meeting its fate, in a pillow fight. One of the few projects that was perfect you could feel it weight balance ...imagination. take care build test improve, there is no perfection only the pursuit.

Dang sorry for the crash but good job pushing the test program. Sincere. I'm wondering if the CG was too far aft? Looks like the jet went into uncontrolled right turn and nothing you could do to straighten it out. Is there any way to double check the CG compared to other similar jets that successfully achieved forward flight? Keep going Joel this is the most exciting part!!

Hey hey, the left roll motor didn’t shut down completely😣 so it rolled to the right side..very stupid mistake. But learnfull to double check. Also the model was heavy, 3,6 kilos, a save aim is 3,2Kg. We pointed out the Cg, it a small hole under the wings:)

Joel, I've started printing this model again and I have a weight issue. Nose section 2 is coming out to 53g and Inlet section (complete) is 179G. I've used the your settings you've posted in on rcgroups forum. I'm printing on a bambu lab x1 carbon using eSUN PLA-LW filament. I"ve doubled checked that it is single wall and 3% infill using gyroid. I'm attempting Nose section 2 again with 1% infill.

Fun fact 1% comes right apart lol and still weight 43g Under strength is the bottom and top shell thickness suppose to be .8mm?

Hmmm? Nose 1 should be 8~9 grams nose 2 around 40 grams..infill 3% line with 0,4…colorfabb invented foaming Pla…esun reversed engineers the spools..but I have never tested esun

@@Joelmelanie I was finally able to get the weight down by importing Chrispol70 settings from RCgroups forum. Still unsure what exactly changed to make the drastic weight difference but I now got Nose 1 at 8G, Nose 2 28G, Inlet (complete) 94g, and ducting section 1 left/right 76G each. Unfortunately now though eSun ran out of stock of the LW-PLA and don't know when they'll have it back in stock :/

Awesome Joel, Thanks. That answered a lot of questions I had. One more question, are those servos the same Hitec HS-70MG ones we used in the wings and rudders? By the way, sucks that you crashed, but so cool you can just print another one.

Yes, for the slats and rudders and nosegear you can use cheaper servos, but they need to be lightweight

@@Joelmelanie I was going over my list of parts to make sure I have everything. I have the two APD 120F3[X]V2 ESC's which I believe are for the wing EDF's. I realized there are no other ESC's on the list for the main EDF's. Am I missing something? Do I need more ESC's?

Any analysis of what went wrong, or do we just brush it aside and make another of the same design... planes don't crash simply because they are heavy. If weight was the problem it would not have taken off at all.

It was too heavily build3,6 kilos is just too heavy. The ideal weight is 3 to 3,2 kilos

​@@Joelmelanie being too heavy doesn't make a plane turn to one side out of control like that. If it was just too heavy it would go straight. I would guess it was a bit tail-heavy, and possibly insufficient control surface authority at that speed. If you had a longer runway and gained more speed before rotation I think it would have gone much better. Making it lighter will help a little bit with control authority, but the CG still needs to be corrected.

Hey, you need the hitec servo programmer. The you can snooze how many turns the servo needs to go

no surprise ... not like the real thing doesnt have many bugs still .. such as faulty oxygen system ... poor stability problems in certain weather ... the lack of ability to be hypersonic and vtol in the same build ... its either hypersonic and just stol .. or vtol and just into the mach range ... for a 35billion dollar plane it isnt worth the cost
