Redcap Oranda is my favourite goldfish of all time. Feed these guys algae pellets to prevent constipation and they'll be fine.
@cichlidscape2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I really like the red caps too! Excited to get one👍🏻 & gotcha. I have been feeding algae wafers & pea’s. Similar to Africans in that sense I think in regards to bloat etc thanks for watching!

That Ranchu goldfish looks very much like a lionhead 🤔but maybe it’s because it’s so young and hasn’t developed the prominent curve look to its back yet. 👍🏴

I'm no expert John, but you may be right. I look at the angle of the tail fin. I'm not really sure though. 😖

Nice to see you back sir. The tanks look great as always. I like the fancy goldfish alot. Orandas are my favorite but the need to potentially trim their wens is a deal breaker for me. I just couldn’t do it. For your SA tank I know where you could get 2 large severums and a Vieja hybrid for free 😂. I’m ready to move on from the tank after three years but I can bring myself to take them to a fish store just so they can sell them for a few hundred dollars just to be mistreated and be killed.

Red cap oranda’s being the possible exception Pat! Should get one…or 7! Haha it looks like the red cap doesn’t cover the eyes in most instance so that wen never needs trimming👍🏻 & hahaha I understand that for sure! Have you found no one else who could home them? How big are they?

@@cichlidscape I think I’ll try the Pittsburgh Aquarium society next but I know from experience most of them only mess around with small fish. I’d have some concerns someone there might try to flip my fish if I gave them away to one of them. Elmer’s was asking $200 recently for a red spot severum a bit smaller than the size of mine. My red should severum is about 5-6” and just starting to color up nicely. The red spot severum is about 8” and the Vieja synspillum hybrid is probably about 9-10”

@@pato7694 arhhhh gotcha. Yeah that would be a worry for sure. Would suck if you caught that or heard about it you know. How come your wanting to rehome them? Getting into something else or just breaking down the tank?
@pato76942 жыл бұрын
@@cichlidscape a little of both actually but the #1 thing is that I want to change out the filtration. They are in a 180 gallon tank currently with two overflows connected to a DIY drawer filter system to both. It’s a great filter that’s a total PITA to maintain. I’m thinking I’d like to get seamless sump system from custom aquariums with filter socks if I can find someone local that can somewhat guide me through what might work there. Anyway that process is going to require me to empty the tank and to be honest I’d like to try some new fish. ID liked to either go with A. discus which is a dream tank for me B. a heavily stocked cichlid tank or C. A tank with a few hundred small fish. The last option would require me to replace the overflows which would not be ideal. So lots of options but all revolve around replacing the filtration to something easier to maintain.

@@pato7694 gotcha. Yeah that makes sense then mate! Are they the only 3 you have in the tank right now then? A b or c…tough call! I think each of those setups would be great!

I lost my passion for African cichlids. Trying to divest them now .
@cichlidscape2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah? What are you keeping now then mate? I still love my blue neon group and breeding them but I’m kind of the same way now with the African “showtanks”

@@cichlidscape I am transitioning to a more peaceful tank . Denison barbs, angels , tetras etc . Work in progress. African cichlids = more stressful

Have you tried adding some females to your African tank? I was chatting to Charles at Goliad Farms (on KZbin) about getting back into cichlids. He suggested having a 70/30, 60/40 ratio of males to females likely would greatly reduce aggression. There are some nice looking females out there.
@Jayr23742 жыл бұрын
@@pato7694 just going to sell them . The smaller fish are also less labor intensive.

How old is that Blood Parrotfish? I have a 6 B' Parrot in my 4ft tank with my Juvenile Golden Masher & Cooper Masher 👻

Thanks for checking out the video. This guy (more likely a female due to size) is about 7/8 year old at this point👍🏻
