Thank you so much! And literacy is soooo important. The illiteracy rate in Ghana is high and as it stands, in a lot of villages, if you can read and write, that alone makes your peers consider you the 'smart' one.

Thank you love! And because a lot of the villages don't have extra money, the majority of the kids do not go past the 7th grade. When we first started working with this village it had been 12 years since anyone in the village went to high school. In 2016 we had our FIRST high school graduate. And the thing is...we are trying to build from the youngest child up because its not even just about having the money to go to school...it is about getting the children educated enough to pass the exams to even get into the school (its like college...they have to apply and such)...that's what I was asking Bismark about...he is 18 and waiting to see if he passes the exam to go to high school. In Ghana, there's no age cutoffs on education. We are just trying to do what we can to help these babies out...I feel like they are all my children now...I got in mommy mode real quick...LoL.

High school in Ghana is free
@FunandBudget6 жыл бұрын
Yup...I heard that it is free now. It wasn't when we started but there are still fees associated.
@rosinadery44846 жыл бұрын
@@FunandBudget the government takes care of the feeding and boarding fees. Which used to make up about 95% of our schooling fees. The fees you're talking is actually not expensive comparatively

This is a job well done thank you all for giving back. Do you know how much it costs for a child to attend school there?
@FunandBudget6 жыл бұрын
The prices vary depending on the boarding school the student gets accepted to. I donated $1000 to pay for one young girls education (to cover room, board and incidentals too)...but I am pretty sure that could have covered either two or three (I get a little excited sometimes). I'll check and let you know.

Update...senior high school in ghana is now free
@FunandBudget5 жыл бұрын
Yes...now it is (it was not when we first started this program over 7years ago)...but remember there are still incidentals for instance, village kids who do not have a high school near them still have to travel to get there and board plus the cost associated with that. There are still LOTS of village families who cannot afford to have their children go to school and instead opt to keep them home and help generate income or do the day to day family business at home.
