I loveeee finding people who are as obsessed with this series as I am. Despite being a well-known and loved series, I still feel like it's extremely underrated .The whole 16 book arc is my favourite, favourite series of all time

SAME. i do think robin is beloved but compared to sanderson, rothfuss, jordan, etc, she's sooo underrated!!

I looove seeing other people obsessed with these books. I feel the exact same way about coming back to Fitz feels like coming home. Those vibes in Fool's Errand reeeally come back even stronger in The Fool's Assassin, which I just finished today and ive been in shock all day. The trauma never ends 😭😭

Ugh, just wait until the end. I hope you love the series As a whole as much as I do. It’s been years and fitz is still my favorite character of all time. I cannot wait to save enough money to start on my fitz/fool/nighteyes themed sleeve. Gosh I just love them and they feel so real. Hobb really did something special. Molly is pretty hated by the community I think, or people just don’t think much about her. In the last trilogy there are quite a few goosebump moments I think.

Thank you so much for talking about my favourite books. It’s always so gratifying when someone else discovers and loves these books. Spoiler time!! I have to make a point in Fitz’s defence. Part of the reason he argues with the fool is BECAUSE he values their friendship so very highly. The one thing Fitz has always consistently wanted is a life freed from destiny and fate and expectations and intrigue. He just wants his cottage and his chickens, but he NEEDS to have the people he loves there. A major reason he loved Molly so much is because she was separated from all the messiness of his life as an assassin; she was a haven. And that’s why he loves the fool too, because he’s someone who knows him to the core and doesn’t care about how messed up and traumatised he is. Fitz resists acknowledging the Fool’s magic and prophecies because he sees it as a threat to the haven the fool offers Fitz. This the Fool’s biggest blind spot when it comes to Fitz. The fool makes the mistake of thinking Fitz is just as interested and invested in changing the world as he is and projects that onto him. He believes they’re destined to be together (which they are in a roundabout and weird way), at least as prophet and catalyst. And then Fitz learns that the Fool’s deceptions have been kind of overstepping boundaries; talking about him behind his back to Jek about their future together without telling him. It shakes Fitz’s whole perception of the Fool as a safe space, and it hurts him. The fool was kind of creepy. He ignored the truth of who Fitz is in favour of his imagined version of him: a catalyst, a hero and the love of his life. NOT to excuse Fitz’s behaviour, he handled the whole thing miserably. Both these idiots messed up and Robin Hobb just broke us with the fallout. Seriously, I love how Fitz has the exact OPPOSITE of main character syndrome. He literally would give anything to be a side character 😂.

spoilers: love love LOVE the fool, and him and fitz in this trilogy broke my heart and mended it and then broke it all over again and stomped on the pieces but i love the fool so so so much (the fight in the golden fool is like... heartbreakingly real unfortunately, poor fool they are soulmates and fitz is an idiot, but 'beloved i have missed your company' makes me go feral sooooooo...... and then the ending of fool's fate with naming himself beloved fucking hell). also excited for you to get to fitz and the fool and how their relationship continues to develop. but also yes read rainwild first. also lol yes the horse name :P

I just finished the trilogy a couple of weeks ago, and hearing you review it is bringing it all back. Fitz and the Fool's argument broke me, and I hated how long it took to be friends again. Chade really bugged me in this series, but I totally understood why he acted the way he did. I think that's the beauty of Hobb, even when I categorically disagree with a characters actions, they are still apiece with that person's history and motivations. Just started the Rainwild Chronicles and I have some reservations as I've heard it's the weakest, but I'm still excited.

@@ellias I am almost done with the second book, and although I didn't find the first book as engaging, I'm hooked on the second. I think some people may have an issue with the discussion of miscarriage, female roles in the rain wild society etc. It's focus is much more female, and I think it re-addresses the male tilt we saw in following Fitz. I am really enjoying the travel through the rain wilds and I think it's a very strong addition to the lore. I'd also say that as it's mostly brand new characters, it makes a nice breather from the intense emotions I had in the previous trilogy, whilst still remaining in the realm I love. I can't wait to hear your thoughts.

I just finished the Tawny Man trilogy 😭 This comment contains spoilers for the trilogy . . . . . . . . I agree with you that I would’ve loved the ending more if Fitz had let go of his love for Molly (I also didn’t particularly ship them in the beginning either lol). Or at least maybe made it a separate novella? How Fitz won back Molly’s love and even those children’s! Rather than just like three chapters in the book.

I loved watching your review of the tawny man trilogy-you touched on so much of what I’ve been thinking about after finishing them. I am seconding basically everything you mentioned, and adding in that Chade made me so angry during for the duration of these three books. He was so stubborn, and selfish, and untrustworthy UGH. Plus, the way he constantly tried to create distance between Fitz and the Fool 😭 no. NO! I love your videos! Will you post a review of the Fitz and the Fool Trilogy as well? I’d love to hear your thoughts

This is such a beloved (16 part?) series and I wish I could be a part of it, but reading Royal Assassin last week was the biggest slog I've ever dealt with. I read the wiki afterwards for everything and glad I decided not to continue 😭 The Fool was the only decent part for me ngl.

i've seen some quotes and fan art that just made,, think but i haven't been able to get a clear answer for this so please tell me - are fitz and the fool "open to interpretation"?👀 bc if they are it will definitely boost my motivation to pick up this behemoth of a series😅
@kitreadsbooks77182 жыл бұрын
the fool's feelings for fitz are pretty explicit, fitz is more open to interpretation i guess? (personally i think he is in a lot of denial but ymmv). the fool is also canonically nonbinary.

SPOILERS FOR FOOLS ERRAND AND GOLDERN FOOL: I've been waiting to see this video I have just finished goldern fool and OH MY GOD !!! First of all nighteyes 😭never sobbed more over a characters death in my life I will legit miss him !!! Now with goldern fool that argument with Fitz and the fool 😭😭 my favourite quote from the fool is "You seek a false comfort when you demand that I define myself for you with words. Words do not contain or define any person. A heart can if it is willing" like WHAT!?!? And then when the fool thought Fitz was sending him the flowers I felt so sorry for him 😭😭😭then when the fool said "Wait. I see. You imagine that I have never known intimacy of that sort. That I have been saving myself for you. Don't flatter yourself , Fitz chivalry. I doubt you would have been worth the wait." Like that was such a mic drop moment!!!!! And also when chade said to fitz to stop trying to impress the fool i was laughinh so hard😂😂.But coming back to these characters was so comforting and I cannot wait to see how it all ends with fools fate but am very nervous 😭I will defo come back to this video after I have finished fools fate to watch the spoiler section!!

2 years late, but I loved this video. It's rare that I agree so completely with anyone on these books! Agreed completely with your ratings and reasons - especially the letdown of the reunions in book 3, whilst understanding that this is such a typical thing to happen to Fitz 🥲Same with your views on Molly & Fitz -- just naaaahhh
