The yarn I worked with was a variety of brands of 4 weight acrylic yarn and a 5mm crochet hook (a 4mm hook was used for one small part)

This is fantastic! I love how the ruff covers all the weird/messy/inconvenient parts of the skeleton vest. I'm not sure what I'm doing for Halloween this year, but this certainly feels inspiring.

This is such a fun project! It's really a shame it has less than 300 views at this point. Algorithms are brutal. I just found you last night through Instagram, so it took me 12 weeks to see your post about this on there, despite all the knit and crochet pages I follow. I immediately came here and hit follow to watch this video today. I definitely think I'd like to make something like this for myself, either in crochet or knit, because it's such a simple, but effective, design. The pearls are a great touch. I might be tempted to add some pearlescent sequins or something, as well...because who wouldn't want to be a crystal skeleton, right? 😍

This is amazing! Thanks for showing your process. I 1/2 free hand 1/2 used a pattern to crochet a skull mask for my son this year and you do feel really proud once you're done with it - especially when you don't really have a plan to begin with 😁. Since I have a ton of chunky white yarn left over now, I might try to make one of these for myself!

You could try it with a cotton yarn. It shouldn't stretch as easily as the acrylic yarns does.
