My great grandmother emigrated from Norway to the U.S. as a young adult. She ended up on the flat plains of Kansas where she married and raised a family. She would tell my mother and aunt, two Kansas farm girls, all about her childhood in Norway and how she missed the Fjords. Once as a young girl, she rode her horse to bring the cows home from where they were grazing. Fog set in and soon she couldn't see more than a foot or so in front of her. Her horse stopped and no amount of kicking or hitting it with a stick could get it to move. Once the fog lifted a bit, she saw just ahead was a sheer drop off into the water far below. If the horse had taken just one or two more steps they would have both plunged into the Fjord.

Correction: 11:20 "Gård" does not mean village. Village is "by". A "gård" is owned by one man and is analogous to what you English speakers call "ranch" or "homestead". The word "garden" which is "trädgård" in Nordic languages probably comes from "gård" with the prefix "träd-" which means tree being dropped in translation. I'm Swedish so the spelling might differ.
