One thing I love about street photography is I meet so many cool people! Used to be scared to death but when I changed the way I looked at it it all changed. I look at people as new future friends and I always want to get people in their best light! 🙂🙂🙂

Ahh that’s such a good way to look at it! Some people actually might love it and will ask for a photo. You’d be surprised. Only one way to find out, and that’s putting yourself out there 😊

Best thing is these photos will grow more appreciation as the years roll by. Small details like text fonts, fashion, colours, signs etc will all change as the years go by. That's the real beauty of street photography, it's a snapshot of time. Nice one Faye, you got some great shots there and met some lovely people on the streets. 📸👍

Street photography always makes the best photos. I get so nervous to do it myself. I give you a lot of credit for going out of your comfort zone. It's definitely a great genre of photography. Capturing an image of people doing everyday things is so photogenic. I enjoyed the video so much! Good job to everyone that made this! Going out and doing street photography right after it stopped raining at night will give you some really cool photos.

My best advice for street photography is something I will always preach. LFTL, Look For The Light! Whether it’s day time, night time, or in between, light will always make your shot more impactful. Street lights, neon signs, car headlights, trams, all make for great shots. In the day time, look for those sharp shadows brought by a sunny day. Look for the light bouncing off the buildings causing a unique refraction. LFTL will help your street photography skills in no time.

I shoot B&W very often. When it's a sunny day - turn a contrast in the profile to max so that you have nice and crispy B&W photographs instead of muddy ones when gray tones are too much. Shoot RAW+JPG, your JPGs will be much nicer in B&W and you will need less things to edit. If you made mistake - you still have the RAW file.

Great Video! It's nice to see you going outside your comfort zone. I wanted to give some tips for people wanting to do Street Photography but maybe struggling with the anxiety of it! • Get ahead of your picture. Work out what you want, point your camera or position yourself ahead of the subject and let them move into your frame. • Try to use the view finder less. People will walk past you not even realising you are taking a picture. • Take a picture of someone but don't move your camera until they walk past you. This makes it look as if you were photographing something else and your attention was not on them. • A NYC photography called Trever Wisecup has a Walkie Talkie video that will give you real anxiety seeing how in your face he gets with a flash! You'll see how unobtrusive you are in comparison! I hope this helps people who want to give it a try and are struggling to get the confidence to do it :)

You always share your vast knowledge with such whimsy and humor in your storytelling. This video was awesome for so many reasons: - The music each day told a story. Great job on the editing! I loved the composition of the two men sitting in the same position in the bakery. What made it stand out was the choice of music while showcasing the photos. It reminded me of Penn Station, NYC, commuting in the morning. - Your street photography showcases your talent, highlighting your compositional awareness and creativity. My favorite shot was the black-and-white image of the train passing behind silhouetted figures. - Your reminder to practice patience by staying in one place and observing until the perfect subject comes into view for your canvas. - Attention to the details, discovering a glimmer of light, and then patiently waiting for the perfect opportunity. - Using a body cam to show your configuration changes (on the fly) as you prepare for a shot. - Filming while you're not feeling well and showing that you're not perfect was, actually perfect! I am new to photography and videography and continue to pick up great ideas through your entertaining content. Next month, I'm headed to the US Open in Queens, NY to watch the early round Tennis matches, and your video gave me so many ideas! Great work Faye!

To me the 2 most difficult disciplines are wildlife and street photography (not street portrat). Wildlife because how how much preparation you have to do and patience. Some stay on the exact spot for hours even days just to capture maybe a couple of photos of an animal that just disappears right away. For street, if you take it seriously, its very difficult because of how the environment and elements constantly change not to mention the lighting all the while still incorporating or keeping in mind composition (basic and advance)

That's pretty amazing for not being used to it. But you are always attracted to people because that's your thing. And with your gained knowledge you nailed it. Yet you still try to direct things a bit sometimes. And it pays. You always look so cheerful and your energy affects people around you. I like street photography but I'm too shy myself around people I don't know and I'm always afraid about their reaction when I would photograph them unknowingly. Another very good street photographer is Adrien Sanguinetti. He lives in Japan and can make a really boring, random place look good in his photos. Hope you do more like this. You got the feel for it.

Photography is in my blood, in my small town (a Dutch 'vestingstad'), my family has always been known as the photographers. I never did anything with photography, but I've gotten really into it in recent years (using my iPhone). Now I've bought my first starter camera (Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ82D, I'll invest in a Canon if I can prove to myself that this is a hobby I enjoy). I want to get into landscape and street photography and watched this video because of it. It's cool to see another Dutchy going about photographing! Thanks for showing us a bit out of your week and cool photos!

Faye, I really enjoyed a week of street photography, from rainy days and nights, to sunny days on the streets then into different markets, you definitely got better as time went on. Great seeing the city and its people! So cool, I was photo editor for my college paper, so I’ve done darkroom developing and worked with black and white which I love playing with contrast, Also covered sports from football, tennis, basketball etc. also covered models at local stores of business with was fun, sometimes I use starlight filters to give it a sparkle. You should try Australia sporting game it’s fun especially if you have access to the field, which I did covering for the college paper. I felt bad that you got sick from the weather but I know it was worth it. Great job do more of this it was fantastic. ❤ Thank you, Leo 🎉

Thank you for this video. It is good going outside your comfort zone. This is how we grow. The more you shoot the more you see shots. You have to develop your senses to see and anticipate what is going to happen. You have to know what you like and want to capture. A good example is juxtaposition. I didn’t know this existed until I started shooting on the street. Now I see it all the time. The same with reflections. Reflections for glass plates. I love to get very close to people and shoot reflections from their sunglasses. Puddle reflections shots are the best. There are many ways to shoot street. A common method is to use a prime. Select a focal length. 28-35-50mm are the traditional choices. My aperture is between 5.6 and 8. As a result, I don’t choose a fast lens. In add, a slower lens will be smaller and lighter than your faster lens. I don’t spray and pray. That generates too many images for me. I also use a small and lightweight body. When I walk the streets I do that for hours at a time. My gear gets heavier over time. I want to be unintrusive in the environment. Take my image and move on unobserved. I don’t interact with my subjects. I didn’t like many of your images. They seem like images randomly captured. I did like the image of the woman with the clear umbrella at 6:40. Did you look at classic street images? Your images don’t look like them. I frequently shoot in B&W. I like that look. I also set the compensation to -1/3 to -2/3. An interesting thing to do is shoot B&W jpegs and also shoot raw so you get both color and B&W. The benefit is you se the images in the EVF or LCD in B&W. The world looks different in B&W. As you suggested, you see the light better in B&W. Street photography is hard. Good insight to shoot 1st and ask questions later. The moment lasts for an instant and then is gone. Be open to what the street offers you. You can’t me it happen. I make images with intention. I’m only satisfied, barely, with 2-5% of my images. On the other hand, I enjoy myself 100% of the time I walk the street with my camera. Did you find the man that gave you the flower sexist? He gave you the flower because you are a beautiful girl? How asked him to judge your looks? It appears to me, you are an adult. Thus you are a woman. I bet if I had that interaction with the florist I wouldn’t have been given the flower. My tips for street photog are, the flip screen is your friend, i dont think i ever use the VF when im doing street, and if you find someone who you are photographing, and they make eye contact, just pan around as if you are taking a video, ans lastly, never make eye contact unless you want to show them your shot of them 😊 Love ya work Faye! 📸

And I just invested in a new-to-me, Canon 24-105mm f/4 & 50mm f/1.4 lenses. Going to try them both out at the beginning of September at a 50th wedding anniversary, followed by a trip to Japan for the first time! I'm so stoked!! And BTW, that florist in this video is right. You're a total babe. And I have been to the Netherlands as well, and they are beautiful people. I loved it there! You definitely got a better but I may be saying that because I'm a portrait guy and by Sunday, you were getting some nice portraits. Tip: Consider framing the portrait through objects closer to you to make the image even more interesting.

Nice POV and good to watch your journey. I thought the images from day one were great. But, you were defiantly more confident as the week went by, even with how you interacted with others. Really solid video.

When doing street photography, I do the same with the camera low and looking through the LCD, I never look at my subjects in the eye, I shoot and move on.

You are one talented lady. Keep the equipment compact and simple. This way you will react to situations much quicker and being much less conspicuous. There is a reason Leica rangefinders and those Fujis are popular with street guys.

@@inyourfayes I don't do much street photography, but when I do I'd take my EM5 MKII for digital but mainly as I shoot film, it is the smaller cameras that I have like my Leica IIIc, Leica M or even my Minox 35s. These will fit in the palm of your hands. Lets hope to see more of your ' street photography ' please? A couple of the photographs had hints of Hass and Leiter phorography. Brilliant.

When doing street photography, you can go for the more inconspicuous approach, but often times I find that embracing a more tourist or obvious look sometimes helps with people just ignoring you, in a counter intuitive way

Really cool vlog and some great photos. Question, when doing things like street photography are you mainly shooting in shutter priority to captor those in the moment movements?

Great photos, I love seeing Melbourne photographed. You captured my friends at the Vic Market, they're the guys at Spanish Donuts - Churros. The guy playing the congas is the owner and the other guy is his brother. Both him and I are into photography. I've sent them your video, I'm sure they'll be super happy they're in it

Very nice video! My best advice when you do street photography (even more in documentary photography) is a quote by Robert Capa: “if your pictures aren‘t good enough, you‘re not close enough.“ Which does not mean zooming, but being close yourself. You see and feel the nearness which creates more emotions than standing far away and zooming in with a 100mm or even more.
@inyourfayes

Hey! That’s such a good way to put it. I noticed that towards the end of the week I was getting closer with a shorter lens and those photos are indeed better and more raw in the moment!! 😊

@inyourfayes that’s what I think I noticed in your video, too. You didn’t say that explicitly but I kind of felt you saw that, too. Long lenses always seduce to take candid shots, but they most of the time are nice on first sight, but cannot stand a close 35 mm shot of real non posed action. And yes it’s hard to get ppl not to pose when you‘re that close - but that’s the challenge here.

Great video Faye and one of my favourite photography genre's. It was interesting to see you use different lenses but pleased to see you ended on using the smaller primes. What was also great that you experimented with black and white which adds a whole new dimension and thinking when shooting street photography. I have a dedicated monochrome camera and a colour one. If you ever get the chance to shoot with a dedicated monochrome I highly recommend it not only for the image quality but also the challenge that it gives you. As for my tip when shooting street be bold, honest and open with the people you shoot and a good way to over come shyness and fears is to shoot portrait street photography where you go up to strangers and ask to take their picture, try it sometime. On a side note I am Dutch too but now live on Crete. Hope to see some more of your great street photography images soon.
