Very interesting. I did 3 start-ups now (all failed) and looking back, god, we were so clueless. My lesson learned is that the VC route is not the only way. Slow and steady, do what you enjoy, it's fine.

So, I'm in Detroit and we have a few mini versions. Back in 09 we tried a few and barely got noticed. However, they weren't all tech related. What I don't agree w/ regarding the what the YC and others are looking for is that they need to see at least 10k users on something or sales. To me, that isn't what an accelerator is for. They're to help you GET to that point.

Hey Caya, can you make a video on pre-seed incubators and or pre-accelerator programs; I'm new to all of this and looking for a program to get experience and a better understanding for the landscape rather than funding in return for equity I've looked online, and most people use the incubator and accelerator term interchangeably, when they sound like they offer different things; I've got a few people who are helping me in refining the idea stage, but having some mentorship, guidance and working resources without any equity pressure would be cool

Uhm, wouldn't you just use a job board or networking events? Surely this is straightforward

Interesting stuff. An episode on grant applications would also be interesting to see.

There's a couple of accelerators that give a lot of money now I think HF0 gives $1m, and AI Grant gives $250k, someone else does $1m too. They're just super super small.

I help lead programs for one of those A tier companies and I can tell you that empowering and equipping my founders toward success is one of the highlights of my life. I care so deeply for helping them grow and get unstuck. In my opinion, the money helps, but the real value is the mentorship and connections. Keep building, founders!

All it matters in startup is how many times can you iterate and how often can you meet experts. It requires cash and some peace of mind. If you don't have 100-200k saved up, don't start. Instead get a high paying tech job and try to deeply understand customers parallely. I made this mistake. My rich accelerator batchmates could spend few 100s of dollars on interns, get things implemented really fast, test and fail fast

Can you explain what you mean by “don’t apply too early”?

The CEO needs a lot of open time to network. If you’re product building, you won’t have enough time to make the most out of the time in the program.
