A lot of times kids with broken families will test new people in their lives, or even actively try to get rid of them so they don't get close and become vulnerable. My guess is the daughter is going through some pain that needs to be dealt with. Lying is not okay. Understanding why she lied is also important, since she is still a child. Momma needs to get that girl counselling ASAP.
