In the character select screen, May's epithet or description is just "Relentless Girl" and this song really drives home just how relentlessly she girls. My first thought when I heard this song was "wait, is this still a fighting game OST?" but then I actually played and watched some stuff and got to know the characters a little and there couldn't possibly be a more appropriate song for May. 😅

Glad you enjoyed it! A lot of people in the fandom make a big show out of hating this song just because the character is annoying to fight (that or they just hate fun). You're basically spot on about the lyrics, she's been in love for years with a man who will only ever see her as an adopted daughter.

Ayy, always glad to see a new GG song. In terms of others to look at: Drift, The Town Inside Me, Necessary Discrepancy, and Love the Subhuman Self are highly recommended. But tbh Daisuke just doesn't miss so feel free to listen at your pace!

I love all the songs of strive, so if you keep listening I will keep watching! I do have a soft spot for all the songs featuring AISHA on vocals, even though NAOKI does a great job as well, so Disaster of Passion is a favorite of mine too

This song is a banger and a great switch up from the usual GG rock. May's also a complete menace in the game with that damn dolphin! Drift and Necessary Discrepancy are great songs that I think hit extra hard for people who are really into breaking down music, especially Drift. Also recommending Crawl which is probably the heaviest song in the game.

Damn, algo hid this one from me until today. The comparison to anime openings is pretty apt- even considering the Extremely Experimental tracks, every one of these themes is the soundtrack to that character's life, and the relevant emotions are usually on full display. May's theme is definitely one of the happiest of the bunch and is an easy listen anytime you need a lil pep in your step. Putting The Roar of the Spark and Armor-clad Faith as suggestions for the next one to listen to, and looking forward to whatever's next.

I hate being one of those peeps that just requests songs but I just watched your Subhuman video and I can tell you're a man who enjoy heavier songs. Listen to "Armor Clad of Faith" or "Mirror of the World" next from Strive if you want to get something that's just absurdly heavy. Edit: Eventually you should look into the previous game's vocal themes like HEAVY DAYS and Ride the Fire. Also, a hot take even within the community, the instrumentals of the older music like Holy Orders (By A.S.H), Jack-a-Dandy, and Original Bet are peak Guilty Gear music.

It's funny seeing all these comments mentioning how happy the song is when it's about May's unrequited love for Johnny, and about how people tell her those feelings will fade but they just keep getting stronger, she's constantly trying to "catch up" to him (age wise is my interpretation, but also in a literal, geopgraphical, sense) but he keeps getting away, which at the end she sort of accepts that she'll keep chasing him until he accepts her love, saying she won't let him get away with it (not loving her back), also explaining why she's a disaster of passion. The upbeat tone of the song always came off to me, as expressing how she puts on a happy face, while being full of these conflicting feelings about Johnny.

Tbh the only song in strive I can say imo is genuinely happy is Jack-O’s and that’s in a comparative sense as knowing her story actually provides logic to the seeming nonsense of her lyrics. As obviously for most of her life she knew her life was on a clock set to expire before most just for someone else to take everything she had which she was fine with but then she starts to experience life and joy hence how many miles is a life

The comparison to early 2000s pop-punk is definitely on point- there's a running gag that this is a pitch-shifted Fall Out Boy song, and that's got to be what everyone's hearing to make that comparison, in my opinion. Personally, it sounds more like a Paramore song to me, but that's splitting hairs :p
