This feels like a therapy session with Rick convincing himself to use the hybrid lol. I think it's time for a few fine-tuning lessons. You've tinkered with your swing all season and changed things that made you a lot stronger with irons and wedges, and now need some fine-tuning with the top end of the bag using lessons. It's amazing how everyone goes through it. I went through a similar journey this season. Granted, it might have been due to watching your videos, and following your journey; I now have lost confidence on the top end of the bag and need some lessons with the season ending for us.

The smaller head "PRO" hybrid Rick is using is designed for a downward blow (like an iron). I have them but, being more of a "picker" i find them useless. I CAN sweep the LARGER HEADED HYBRID, FAIRWAY WOODS and UTILITY IRONS equally well. It really comes down to how YOU contact the ball.

Had exactly the same "hole" in my bag, tried the hybrid for a while, didn't love it, tried a 2 iron, liked it & 6 months ago put a Wilson 5 wood in, perfect. It's the most workable club in my bag & feel I can hit any shot with it with it's natural shape a nice soft draw out to 215m (230-235y)

I would love to see a video of Rick having a lesson. Ive had lessons myself at different levels of my play. I would be curious to see what a lesson would look like for someone with the capablities Rick has. Correct me if I am wrong but hasnt Rick also commented that he struggles with his shots going left, which is present in this video. I would be interesting to see to process of working on this and how to work on something such as this. Im sure this would make not only an interesting video but also be very informative to many viewers.

Got a 4 hybrid rogue max I absolutely love . My go to club right now off the tee . Can hit it 250 in middle to fairway off tee and anywhere from 200 -230 off the ground . The slower the further . Learning this with my hybrid the more intentional I’m at slowing my pace the more I hit the absolute piss out of it

100%. I’ve only been playing for two years. Putting a hybrid in the bag helped me start to break 90 consistently. Mostly because of that choke down punch shot that gets me out of trouble but still gives me a chance at par or bogey.

Thanks Rick, I appreciate you sharing your struggle. I am a weekend hobbyist, love golf but at 62 I find myself just not able to hit as many balls as I used to, so practice suffers a bit. 3 years I crushed my irons but struggled with my woods/hybrids. This year I am crushing my driver/wood/hybrids and can’t hit long irons at all. Ad a non-pro I have come to accept that. But you are still a young guy so maybe the other commenters are right and a lesson might help. I would dearly love to see that video, your speed lesson with B.D. Was transformative for my driver.

Cool. At 63 the longest iron in my bag now is a 7i with a 16.5-3w and until the tip sheared off a 22-7w. I watched Fred Couples who is my age put a 9w in his bag. I’m headed that direction. I’ve been as low as a 7hcp and I’m currently holding a 13.9 but shot 40-41 in a recent club event and won. Sorry for the long winded response but my point being is sometimes do what’s best for you and not try and keep up appearances. Although I do have a TM driver 3i I use from the woods if I’m trying to get up the fairway. Good luck with your game. It’s a rollercoaster.

Even I your prime 2 iron days you reviewed the TM GAPR and out of the 3 (hi- mid- low) you surprised yourself with which one you preferred. Being a 2 iron guy you thought it would be low all the way. Yet preferred the mid as it was so versatile. And discounted the hi as you “didn’t” like hybrids. TM still make albeit updated this club as the Sim, Stealth and now P-DHYs are just minor variations except the P-DHY looks a hell of a lot better than its predecessors. I’d love to see you go DHY as it more forgiving than your P790 3/4 iron and you can keep them down more than a hybrid. I have a Frankenstein of GAPR 3 Mid @18deg and Sim DHY 4 @22 at the top of my bag and love them.

I'm the opposite with hybrids. They are so much easier to hit than long irons. Fly higher, land softer with same or better distance. I replaced my 5i with a 5 hybrid this year. Rick enjoyed watching your scores dropping and some putts falling. Seemed like your focus on lower scores has been working. The hybrids flexibility is putting a lot of 2 and 3 irons to the time out corner. I used to hate hybrids. But, due to age and injury I’ve lost a lot of swing speed and found that I was having a harder time getting the loft I like out of 4 iron. I picked up a 20 degree hybrid and turned it up to 21 degrees. It has been a perfect replacement for my 4 iron. I get the left I like and when I don’t hit it in the middle it doesn’t hurt as much as a miss hit 4 iron. I’m not as good as I used to be so the forgiveness helps a lot.

I've always had an issue with your previous videos about swinging a hybrid. You don't sweep with them like you'd think, and around 6:55 you mention hitting it like an iron. That's exactly what you're supposed to do, and it is working for you! That low and left shot shape is from a lack off compression, so no wonder you're doing well with a hybrid.

I had D, 3W, 2hybrid, 4-PW for years. I could not get my muscle memory to remember the different swings I needed for all the different clubs. When I was hitting it well, the hybrid was amazing. But it required a swing unique to all other clubs in the bag. Eventually I also lost consistency with my 3W. So finally about 1 year ago I dropped 2H for a 5W and since that swing is so similar to a 3W swing I can finally consistently hit both 3W and 5W now. If I could've gotten my brain to keep all the shot types I would still prefer a hybrid to fill the 3W to long iron gap, but for me it will be 5W for the foreseeable future.
@andrewmitchell748318 күн бұрын
Hybrids are just more versatile. those 2-iron "hybrids" like P790 or T200 or whatever just don't allow most golfers to hit enough variety of shots and mishits are still punished pretty badly. I ditched my 4-iron a couple of years ago and went with a TSi2 21* that I lofted up 1 click. Absolute money club that works in so many situations and I can elevate where my 4-iron flight was too flat. And I was not a hybrid lover before at all - found them too draw-biased and too hot but now their construction is much much better and not just geared to higher handicappers. p.s. Rick, get a driver fitting. Watched the Solina videos and driving was an absolute car crash most of the time. Go work with James Robinson for a week and get a proper driver fitting not just pulling out some freebies and blasting them in the sim studio.

Hello Rick, I was noticing that you are playing the hybrid forward in your stance. Very similar to how you line up your three iron. I am curious what the shaft length is. The reason I ask is when I added a 4 hybrid to my bag I was tought to hit it like an mid range iron. Which meant to place the ball closer to the center of my stance. You are making great contact so it probably does not matter. I have a ping G400 4 hybrid. I play it right smack in the middle of my stance and hit an average of 220 with a perfect shot going 235. Just curious if you have any thoughts on that?

When you're striking it well any club is magical, but on those days when nothing seems to be working, a hybrid/wood will not punish you as much. Most players need far more hybrids/woods in their bags. Look at Fred Couples current bag of clubs... his longest iron is a 7. And Fred is still pretty strong, he hits driver 285... most average golfers can't hit that far (or accurate).... so why are they out there trying to smash a 3/4/5/6 iron. Make things easier for yourself, get more hybrids/woods.
@peterhammer6915Ай бұрын
I would not even play golf with a set like Freds, even if I adore his swing. Hybrids never give same satisfaction from hitting the middle than irons. Hitting the sweet spot on a long iron is the best feeling in golf. For me golf is not only about maximising the result.

Finally!! I can't believe you and Guy have "never" even had a 5 wood when TIGER switched to one in the mid 00's lulz

A very insightful video itâs interesting how sometimes people buy replicas and then pretend they are the real thing, which in a way feeds into that sense of exclusivity that discourages people from buying the real thing in the first kislux ! Like the drama that happened on the reality show Singles in Hell

I don't get along with them either except the Paradym with rails. It's a monster. 4 hybrid is like 230. Your get the ball in the air easier with the low iron with a softer flex graphite shaft . Especially out the rough.. Wait til you hit your 40's Rick lol. It doesn't get easier, ehy make this game harder.

pete has a hybrid or 2 in his setup- Rick played recently with his old buddy pete who is playing good golf, is a brit and comes from a similar background- well good enuf for pete then good enuf for me. good on you for tipping your nose down a bit from your traditional view.

I hit my ping g430 3 hybrid at least 250 yards down the middle of the fairway more often than I hit driver. It’s my go to club Off the tee

Maybe try an adjustable 7 wood you like turned down in loft (to open the face slightly) should then bridge the gap?

Hey Rick, I was the same way I now have a 4 hybrid and a 4 rescue and they both are amazing for me. I use my 4 hybrid for off the tee and fairway and 4 rescue for the rough and if I need to hit a higher shot. My 4 rescue is really cool since it hangs in the air for 8 seconds and travels 220 yards.

What's the difference between a rescue and a hybrid?
@CMGOLF40Ай бұрын
@MrImpossible86 the difference between my two clubs is the hybrid isn't as lofted and has a smaller head, and my rescue has a bigger more forgiving face with more loft. It's about a 4 or 5 degree loft difference.

The huge marketing machine from all the big boys want to convince you to go hibrid, I'm 67 years of agé and love my 2 and 3 iron when needed!! Thanks 👍

I am relatively new to golf. I want to know how does hybrid helps with issue with slicing or hooking in Rick's case. It's all about face angle and path right? Hybrid only helps if it is shorter right? I can see its advantage in the rough and all, but I can't see why rick's hitting the hybrid straighter

This season I gamed the Taylormade M1 2017 19* hyberid lofted down to 17.5*. That hybrid was a rocket.

I have problems with hybrids going left. Can you adjust lie angle to make it more fade bias. Also you may want to try a 7 wood

Rick with your natural draw shot you need to have a more into out swing sending the ball out to the right a little and bringing it back in .

Rick!! Did u know from 230/240 yards out on approach shots The tour average for proximity to the hole is over 60 feet So tbh your ability to get it near the green or maybe a tad further away is very respectable Take a look at your mate Peter finch Good golfer great ball striker He’s proximity to the hole with a wedge From 120/100 Is over 40 feet

I’m a big fan of Rick Schiels and I’ve been watching him for a long time. But two things he is not,he is not a scratch golfer or a plus handicap. He’s somewhere around 4-6 handicap. Which is respectable . 👍🏼 I’m a 58 year old short hitting 7hcp and I’d play him straight up anywhere for any amount 😮 😉

Love my Callaway 2H. Leave the ego alone and appreciate how they help a score card

you would be crazy bases on these shots not to hit the hybrid... the land angle is so much better, and the dispersion is 15 yards better - both length and side. With your club head speed there is no chance that your consistently utilizing what is effectively an old school 2 iron. Heck, even Tiger starting implementing a 5 wood (which is a similar tool).

At the range: "Right, last 3 balls, let's finish with 3 good shots...". Some moments later: "Another hundred balls please". Always relatable, Rick! 😁
