In Water ending is the most interesting one. Because James takes the responsibility of his deeds, free Maria from her loneliness and eternal suffering, and fulfills their wish to be together in their special place. And also Laura wouldn't see Mary's body in James's car.
@Grendel240312 күн бұрын
Eh, I wouldn't say James is really taking responsibility well for his actions in this ending. The three endings are supposed to reflect his possible ways of dealing with what he's done; he can reject it and ignore it like Eddie does (Maria ending), he can allow it to consume him as Angela does (In Water ending), or he can accept it and move forward just as the Letter and a Wrench note says (Leave ending). James's mind essentially just succumbs to the grief of what he's done, much in the same way that Angela is not able to overcome her own trauma and apparently commits suicide by allowing herself to burn to death
@beamertoy8 күн бұрын
I wish we had Still ending James with the water ending. His performance was much more powerful. But water just makes sense because it would loop perfectly with the beginning of the game where he goes in the restroom to wash his face having no memory of how he just killed himself

This game really is an amazing mind trip. When I played it 22 years ago it changed my life, and how I saw what video games and storytelling could be. Nothing else like it had come before it. As someone who saw his wife crumble away from illness over 2 years, I can relate to what both James and May went through. Both people are victims of the disease, and no one can understand what affect that has on a caretaker / spouse unless they go through it. It can break one down in ways we never thought possible. The disease killed the "person" that Mary was 3 years ago when she first got the disease. (she was most likely killed very recently based on other indicators) You also are shown this when Maria was found dead the 2nd time in the hospital bed, when you see her with the start of the same disease that Mary had. There are so many visual cues throughout the game to see. You see the home James and Mary lived in (and the bedroom Mary was killed in) being shown over and over in the Apartment buildings (where you found her hanky where PH mimicked similar acts in the apartment), the Labyrinth, etc. You can also hear Mary's "gasp" from the videotape at different important parts of the game. The monsters are visual representations of Mary and her sickness as well as James sexual frustrations (lying figures throwing up, all monsters having feminine / sexual tones). The locations changing to represent memories of both James and Mary's own otherworld hell (the hospital covered in dirty sheets, the rot, etc). There is a freshly dug (and open) grave in the graveyard on the first play in Silent Hill at the start. All the bodies in Silent Hill are James, alluding to the possibility that he is stuck in some sort of loop and he kept failing until you clear the game. The "memories" from the first game add a nice emphasis to this idea while also being nice easter eggs for players of the original. It also explains why the game and puzzles are somewhat jumbled and different than the original (while allowing the game to be fresh and new for all players). Angela's Abstract Daddy sequence was absolutely nightmarish in the remake compared to the original. If you watch the burning stairs scene with her (makes me bawl every time), you will see "Daddy" is now on the wall in a frame similar to the Abstract Daddy monster... only now he's been slit down the middle (including his "stuff" now being gone). You aren't meant to like / agree with James actions, but its ok to have empathy for the horrible situation he and Mary were both put in, as the disease made them each a "monster" in their own way... and its a tragic story all round. It's meant to make you think in ways you never did before... and its a special experience you'll never forget.

Congratulations on finishing the game, I'm glad you enjoyed it! For the ending, it isn't really about specific choices, it's more a mix of how you played throughout the game. The "In Water" ending you got is what happens when you play as if James has a death wish (taking many injuries, not healing as soon as possible, spending a lot of time heavily wounded): basically, running out of healing items often pretty much locks you into this. It won't surprise you to learn this is one of the most common endings for the first playthrough! 😄

There's a video released that explains how the points system works in the remake, it's a bit skewed towards In Water compared to OG, looking at the knife/letter in inventory has a little more weight, stomping on the monsters also adds you In Water points. Combat also influences regardless if you got hit and healed a lot or not (though low health also has its own weight where you get some percentage per second you spend injured), even if you do perfect combat you get points if you fight everything.

Please watch an analysis of the game. Only then will you understand a lot, and you’ll see the game from a different perspective. Mary's body is already in the back seat of the car at the start of the game. He's bringing her to Silent Hill one last time. Only when he looks in the mirror does he forget why he really came. In the long hallway at the end, you didn’t listen to half of Mary’s monologue. It gets very emotional. You have to listen to it (among other things) all the way to trigger a different ending. There are two Pyramid Heads at the end because James has two people on his conscience (Mary + Eddy). Angela was abused by her father (and brother). She always hid in her closet. There, she burned a photo. This caused the house to catch fire, resulting in the deaths of her father, her brother, and her mother. And so much more...
@davidpumpkinsjr.510819 күн бұрын
Not only did Angela suffer horribly through her early life, but she also suffered the horror of the town, all through no fault of her own. It's a sad truth of life that some people who suffer like her will never seek salvation because they think they don't deserve it. Angela is probably the most tragic character of any Silent Hill game, maybe even including Alessa.

12:13 I love it because everyone's natural instinct is to shoot the monsters, not realizing they're not actually attacking you 😂, conveniently placed there just to make you waste your ammo before the boss fight, and that's because now James knows what he did, he isn't running away from his guilt anymore, the monsters were obstacles made by his mind to avoid him facing the truth

If you didn’t realize, because I didn’t realize either, but Mary’s dead body was in the backseat of James’s car the whole time hidden under a sheet. At the end, he was talking to her dead body. This is the "canon" ending, but it's a bad ending. Mary says in the letter "I want you to live" but James can't get over her loss and decides to crash his car into the lake. Each ending requires a series of previous steps, so you could load a previous save (a couple of hours) and try to investigate more or do things differently. The new endings do require a new game +. I would have liked to see your reaction to all the endings, it's a shame you didn't record it. If you liked the game or you still have questions, I recommend you watch videos about the lore of the game because everyone misses a lot of things the first time or doesn't understand everything.

Maria was the idolized version of Mary, what james wanted from Mary when she was sick, so hotter, avaible and wanted to be protected Maria is the only character that is not real Each character sees silent hills differently. Laura went there for Mary but she has no sin so she is fine and sees no monsters. Angela sees fire and Eddie ice All the others sees monsters but in their own way Each monster represents something for James. About the nurses: The baby face symbolizes James and Mary's desire for a child. The suffocation that the Nurses experience is also representative of James's subconscious memory of smothering Mary with a pillow. The red squares covering the mouths symbolize "shrieking insanity," particularly Mary's anger and verbal abuse against James. about the mandarin (the enemies that stays underground/or roof : Mandarin symbolizes feelings of overwhelming, incomprehensible anguish and helplessness. For this reason, they are not permitted to stand above ground. The novelization also mentions they originated from a desire to "escape" The “cage monster” in the hospital (when Laura locks you in) it represents Mary badmouthing James in her last days (thats why its in a bed like and has a mouth). And so on.

Sadly two of the biggest impacts that influenced her "negative' ending was killing the retreating enemies at the end of the game which don't try to attack after James learns the truth from the video, and the fact she ran through the door in the long corridor before Mary's conversation ended and missed the part where she talks about not wanting James to leave and not wanting die.
