it's a pretty rare move but right before it hits you you can counter it with the same buttons you use for torture attacks and basically takes away around half of their hp

I just finished Bayonetta 3... What were you doing? Sitting there holding ZL? I've never done that once outside of puzzles. You can actually buffer all the summon inputs during Bayonetta's dodges or during some of her attacks, making you able to fighting with Bayonetta & the summon simultaneously pulling off crazy combos. Not to mention one of the craziest weapon arsenals of any character action game. I enjoyed Bayonetta 3 immensely from my experience with it recently.
