It's a pretty good attempt with "early cinematics" in 90s 3d fgs. Like, for comparison SF EX games were around that same time, but the supers look more like raw replications of the 2d versions.

@@alanevans6482 In this game, which is a retelling of the early/classic FF story, Ryo is already the new Mr Karate. In the real FF timeline, AOF happened a decade earlier, so Ryo shows up in this game actually older and more experienced as he is supposed to. Also Ryo in Fatal Fury Special isn't accurate because he is younger. (And btw Capcom stole Ryo's design for Ken in SF5)

Come on, Justin, you don't remember how Yamazaki's command grab super works? Land the grab, and then you mash to determine which version you get (the headbutt spam is usually the 2nd- or 3rd-best, I think...honestly, it's usually not too hard to mash out the best one so the others kind of blend together to me 😅)

The game is more technically limited than SF EX, but i think it tried harder to give a "modern" or advanced take on supers compared to the approach of SF EX supers. They looked more cinematic. And that's a pretty decent attempt for the 32 bit/PS1 generation.

It's because that's one of the last FF games. And KOF isn't supposed to give room to the FF roster... as a crossover, it that has to handle and balance many different sources of content. There's only guaranteed room for the few most representative FF chars. And whenever there's a little more room for FF in a KoF, the slot is given to more popular options like a boss, an og, or an MOTW char. Anyways that's really sad that these minor chars have a dark future because FF is still buried and KoF has limited space. Actually even ogs like Duck and 2nd gen chars like Bob have little to no space in KoF.

That's because KoF isn't meant to portray character evolution and aging of minor chars like FF and AOF chars. Both games have their own games and timelines and they are supposed to handle all that character development. And it's not KoF's problem if both are still dead. Maybe if you mean give Ryo just an extra costume based on Mr Karate, like MOTW Terry costume. That can work. And I really wish SNK cared about him enough to do it. But it doesn't seem the case...

I can understand that during the 90ies developers weren‘t so much into redesigning characters to fit the timeline, but after more than 20 years this „multiverse - alternate timeline“ blah just feels like a lame excuse.

To see the long intro cinematic you had to wait a bit longer during the title screen. Although I think it's only in this ps1 version. Another Fatal Fury game that is good is Real Bout Special Dominated Mind, that one is exclusive for PS1 and is like a port of RBS but has a final boss diferent to Geese or Krauser.

Geese can be fought if you complete certain conditions BEFORE you reach the battle against Billy (and that's not mentioning the survival mode of course) in Dominated Mind, and the intro of Wild Ambition is I think on Ps1, and is kinda cool if you ask me.

@@PikangsFutaba yes, you don't have to use continues and make 650 thousand points or more, Geese appears before Billy, it's similar to Nightmare Geese from the previous RBS but it's not that difficult.

Great video Justin!!! I think you should look after Ninja Master's. A weapon based Neo Geo game, the last made by ADK in 96, after Agressors of Dark Kombat and World Heroes. The supers of the game are greats and the characters are really cool and it is very underated (and even SNK forgot about it). The ACA Version its on the Switch and xb1

I played this alot in the arcade back in 2000, and would pick Geese Howard. It was alot of fun, but the cpu was cheap. I should have played Xiangfei back then though. Anytime I see this game, I remember the old Japanese man, with the magic fan and red eye, called Toji. This game is really fun, and not as bad as people claim it to be.😄 9:12 Wow!😲 Nice win against Geese, that was a super close match there.👍

It's a port of the Hyper Neo Geo 64 arcade board. Actually you should check out the 4 released fighting games on it! Buriki one is my favorite than samsho 64

@Juan Camaney It's a shame that no one seems to be actively working to get a good HNG64 emulator running. Then again it would be a LOT of work and would require some deep understanding of the hardware. I still remember back in the day when they were trying to get KoF 2k running in emulators, apparently that board had a completely new encryption system that threw off everybody trying to dump the ROMs into a workable state.

Xiangfei's super is a command (hit) throw. If you're out of range, which is easy because it's got zero fucking range, she does the attack anyway without actually paralyzing the enemy. I think it's a bug.

This is one of those games that I heard was bad for so long (thanks a lot, f**king liars at HardcoreGaming101), but it _looks so good_ (for a PSX fighter) that I always wanted to try it. Cut to earlier this year when I have it on not one, but _two,_ emulator consoles and I gotta say, yeah, it does kinda rule. If this came out on the N64 instead of the PSX, I'm convinced it would definitely be a well-remembered cult classic now - would've gotten loads of attention by default by being the best fighter on that platform (no offense to Fighter's Destiny 2, Mace: The Dark Ages or Flying Dragons). I wonder why SNK _didn't_ port it to the N64, actually; the Hyper Neo Geo 64 was such a failure they should've. The OG Neo Geo was way more successful, yet they put _tons_ of their fighters on the MegaGen, SNES, Game Boy and Game Gear anyway courtesy of Takara. Missed opportunity, I guess, but I'm glad Wild Ambition is getting some attention now.
