The argument they always use is: "Well, nothing bad happened, so what's the big deal?", completely ignoring the fact it shouldn't have even come to that in the first place. Some people are just way too desperate to defend the people they love instead of admitting when they're at fault.

Sounds like my baby daddy when his mom purposely got our son sick and it ended up being covid!! He was really sick and recovery took a month. He then claimed I was trying to guilt him when I would send him videos and pictures where he would be asleep and with a wet rag to help his fever or he'd be crying... when he asked for videos he's not doing well I said and he's trynna sleep it off ur not here to witness all of this My poor innocent baby boy crying from pain and a fever but since he's okay now he wants me to make "amends " with his mom.... like wtf?!! She's the one who wronged my son The multitude of issues... being her entitlement and kissing my baby, not taking accountability and she claims to have been a nurse who specifically work with special needs kids which I feel make her actions worse because children can't always explain what they're feeling or going through... and she had the audacity to blame his fever on his vaccines he had gotten 2 weeks prior Amd when I told my baby daddy she's not to be around my son he began yelling berating and degrading me claiming he's fine now so it's time to stop being childish and move on... my baby had a urine analysis done in the er nd he cried in pain nd I wasn't finished talking when he yelled omggg!!!! As in what my son went thru meant nothing... ill never forget what my baby went through

This! More people need to realized that if one person who lives there tells someone who doesn't to leave... it doesn't matter if someone else who lives there also lives there, the person asked to leave doesn't and has no right. And the person who does live there they are visiting has no right to force others they live with to suffer the bad behavior of guests. I had a friend of a friend have the audacity to tell me I don't live in my own apartment that it was my roommates when we are both on the lease equally.

I’ve gotten really peeved when my dad had spanked my son, as what my dad views as “respect” and “enforcing the rules” I had viewed as abuse and fear. I have told my mom many times how I disagree and do not stand for it. As that is the exact reasoning and acts that had made me dearly not respectful of my parents, and how a part of me forever hates them for what they did when I was a child. I still have a hard time and fear my dad, even though he raised me, I want little to do with him when he is in those states of mind as I always have to fight with a trauma response. Which is why I usually tell my mom, as she tells him everything and will be able to speak to him in a way he’ll respect instead of him getting all heated with me for having my own rules and boundaries. We need to do better, and not settle for “well it didn’t kill them”! Just cause it didn’t this time doesn’t mean it won’t next or do permanent mental damage. (I’m just grateful all my family will stand down when I tell them about my son’s allergies, instead of trying to force it like they usually would. Not lethal, but cusping on dangerous, which he has an EpiPen for.) My son is only 3.

OP you are 1000% NTA here. Don't ignore your instincts mama bear and protect your little one. Clearly your MIL cannot be trusted around your children. This is one time you both need to be completely on the same page to go NC/scorched earth here with your MIL. She has repeatedly disrespected you both, disregarded your boundaries and knowingly endangering your child's health and well-being without remorse. OP you need to document everything that's happened and get a restraining order against her. This is not a one off incident but a blatantly repetitive pattern of reckless behavior that needs consequences. DO NOT ALLOW THIS TO BE RUG SWEPT. While the cameras are a really good idea to catch evidence, it won't stop your baby from choking or scumming to SIDS bc she neglected to check him.

That this is what that woman will do to your child and how you want her kept away. My mother actually had a good reason to "let me cry it out" When I was a baby I had these HUGE screaming attacks. I would scream and scream and NOTHING anyone did would calm me. The midwife then, after a lot of trying on her, a lot of crying on my mothers and a shit ton of screaming on my end came to the conclusion that it was me burning of energy. I had too much energy for me to handle. My body wasn't developed enough to be able to burn off all that energy in any other way so whenever I did that, my parents would put me on the most soundproof room, put the TV or music on for them selves and let me get all the energy out of my system. Now I'm questioning if it has to do with me being an AuDHDer because I still have those massive bursts of energy, where I don't know what to do with my self, how to let it out, i feel like I could sprint around screaming from the top of my lungs for half an hour. But it's usually only physical energy, my mental energy is drained so easily. Also, OP is so NTA. At that age, feeding the kid anything remotely sugary cereal like is child endangerment at the least. And spanking, aka hitting aka using physical violence on children should by law be punished with equal violence. The fact that this is ok in some places still baffles me. "It didn't mess me up" the hell it did. Or did they feel safe with their parents? Did they get afraid when their parents showed anger? Violence is only ever the answer when it's self defense and you can't do anything else or when it comes to people being absolute vile creatures (gr@pists, PDF files, things like that) If you actually read all that....damn, thank you and you have my respect. FROOT LOOPS?! By cereal I thought they meant that oatmeal grain stuff you feed to babies. And even though I I agreed it is still a choking hazard I could see where someone could see no harm. But Froot Loops?! How?

When she said cereal, I thought she meant baby cereal, “I was like okay, that’s not terrible but wouldn’t it clog up the bottle?” No she mentioned cereal cereal, and not even like Cheerios bruh

When she said cereal I thought she meant baby cereal, like mix with formula or breastmilk baby cereal not child and adult type of cereal. It is one thing to give a 8+ month old child a couple handfuls of Cheerios to munch on as like a snack But who the hell would put fruit loops of all things in a baby bottle. What the hell Is wrong with that woman and how the heck did her children survive infancy?!

Fun fact: infants swallow in a different way than anyone who eats solid food and if someone fails to have the instinct that says to switch from pushing the tongue against the gums/teeth to pressing it against tbe roof of the mouth it can cause difficulty properly eating withoht choking. I know this partially bc I have this problem and now need to forcefully reteach myself so I can eat without choking or damaging my front teeth

An elder spanked my daughter while babysitting after it was made clear nobody was to spank my child. I got my daughter calmed tucked for s nap and this family member seen me walking toward them dropping hoodie, earrings and realized i was about to see how she liked it. Never again has anyone touched my baby.

I'm sorry you said what now she put her hands on your sister-in-law's child😮 no that's a straight-up felony right there my mama didn't even have to deal with that with my grandmother because my grandmother never put her hands on me or my cousins or my little brother for that matter😅

You are absolutely right it's dangerous to feed babies cereal. And that's not her baby and she has no right to tell you how to raise your son.

NTA but sometimes letting baby's cry it out isn't always bad. like if they are very clearly tired and it's time for their nap or bedtime sometimes you just have to leave them alone and let them cry for a while

She would NEVER see her grandbaby again unsupervised. Feeding, get the kids something to drink and give it snacks will ONLY my husband and I. If she try to feed my kid she would see the grandchild never again - even not supervised

That makes perfect sense, and who the heck would feed a baby Froot Loops! When I watch my baby cousins, I only feed them food appropriate for their age and only with their parents permission
