Come chat in my Discord here! discord.com/invite/nYXupKpbuR EDIT: After further testing it is like the KQ one where if you splash it safespots it, however for some reason in some circumstances, I can hit it multiple times in a row without it hitting back - leading me to this video, now I'm re-testing it I can't seem to replicate getting a full kill without it firing a spell back, so I guessss this video is a bust, but I'm gonna keep investigating why sometimes it let's me hit it multiple times in a row and be flinched, rather than the simple splash method we're seeing in this video 👀

probably cause ahrim is using mage too, maybe it has something to do with attackspeed

When an npc/player is splashed on, they auto retaliate instantly. This mechanic is utilized during f2p ironman dragon slayer speedruns, and other auto retaliation methods. It has been in the game for a long time

The last update to Ahrim on the wiki was changing him to Spectral. Maybe try flinching a god wars mage, they were changed to spectral as well.

I've tried a lot that wasn't in this video but I've not attempted to recreate anything regarding Spectral creatures, highly doubt this is the one - but will definitely go try it for fun

it happens in inferno as well. Really confused me when i noticed it the other day. But I was casting blood barrage and hiding before the mob closest to pillar would even see me.

The reason flinching worked on ahrim but not the dark wizard is because you splash on Ahrim. You can flinch with Splashes, but not actual hits.

@@BroScro i can confirm splashing works on all of the barrows brothers, was exposing myself for binds on ironman so i could get shots in, only time they swung at me was when the bind succeeded.

You can use salamander to flinch btw, any attack style

May be unrelated here, but I did notice something weird with barrows brothers while I completed CAs: When I bound/froze melee brothers and walked away to mage them, if I walked more than a few tiles away the brother would de-spawn, and I’d have to start over. Never understood why, as I was still in their “wander/aggro” range

it's because you're splashing due to ahrim's mage def, splashing hits instantly, same reason why people splash on purpose on cm crabs to get the first crab to run to you instantly, it's also used in some very advanced inferno strats (splash offticking)

Should've probably mentioned this in the video as the KQ method involves splashing, however you can do entire kills with this method (including hits ofc)

@@insane5769 No, it's a full safe method where even if you hit it doesn't hit back, I've been doing kills on a level 20 acc with 30 magic with this method

I was thinking it maybe has something to do with the combination of his overhead speech text (as that messes with some other things like poison) plus his use of mage, the only other monster I can think that has these criteria would be a Saradomin/Zamorak mage from a clue scroll but I haven't got one at the moment to try with.

Isn't it an enemy attack speed issue paired with target tile location? It's simple corner safespotting with moving out of enemy line of sight before their attack animation can start. Like you said, manual casts are faster. Range should work too with salamanders.

Manual casting magic and ranged attacks are the same tick delay, which is slower than melee and don't work anywhere else

Perhaps cause of his attack speed being 6 tick? I know a similar sort of thing is possible with the scarab mages in Sophanem dungeon

Hey Tellacon, a little thing about the flinching mechanic. I do not know if this is documented anywhere. When you go to flinch using melee, the npc you target (red click) is delayed for 1 combat tick. You can test this out yourself by being in combat with 2 npc's and flinch one of them. The other npc will attack you out of sync with the one you flinched. Just a strange little thing I noticed recently. I found this out when flinching twisted banshees as two could target me on the same spot.

@@Tellacon think evans is onto something and it is related, sometimes when attacking an npc from auto retal, your character will wait a tick doing a block animation before attacking back, whereas if the timing is right and the animation gets cancelled out, your character will auto retal the same tick the npc attacks you, the exact same concept is happening when you mine, you'll notice if you have ever power mined iron or studies tick manipulation with mining, that sometimes your character will do a half swing before ore is extracted, and sometimes if it doesn't have enough time to do the animation, ( this is conceptually tick manipulation wether purposeful or not ) you instantly get the ore with no animation and no wait. how this is causing a 1 tick delay with ahrim I have no idea, he should be able to target you the second your character theoretically steps out from cover as you are both using at range attacks, whereas a mele strike would be instantly hitting and causing that block animation that allows you to flinch in the first place with mele, for some reason perhaps ahrims is having a block animation ( by block I mean the take back your character or an npc does when taking a hit ) this is also why if someone hits you with darts you don't block/flinch animation every dart, there isn't enough time for your character to start the next animation before the first one is finished

@@TheeJhenMohran It's a good explanation - and is interesting, but I'm not sure it's relevant to this case due to things such as ranged not working even though it shared the same delay as manually casting, if you use ranged weapons theoretically the same should apply but it doesn't, it's very strange...

The barrows lair's are broken i can easily make the last brother spawn 100x if i want so I thinks it's something to do with the underground area

At barrows u can safeapot them all. Running around the coffins. An do a mage attack from spellbook by hand.

Works cause ahrim uses the same code as count draynor. Works on him too
