If this was an European country, bankers responsible would have held for criminal proceedings. I have worked at leading banks and financial organisations. It should not take more than an hour. Banks are legally responsible to maintain KYC in India and abroad. The information is readily available and probably staring at the the eyes of the employees of SBI who have access to the system. From my first hand experience as a data analyst and data modeller with reputed banks and financial organisations SBI, is blatantly lying SC should initiate legal actions. Funny thing is SBI could have informed the Supreme Court immediately on receiving the order that they would need time until the end of June to provide the details. But they waited until almost the deadline given by the court before asking for additional time. This shows that something is wrong and they are under pressure not to divulge details before the elections. Now the Supreme Court should show its clout and insist on getting the details of the bonds as per the original time frame!

The disclosure of records must be handled purely on technical grounds. So, SBI can disclose all the records within few days. If it is asking for 3 months time it means that the central govt is pressurizing SBI to act as per its intention. This is another case of intimidating the institutes.

The delay in submission itself shows that there is something fishy. Imagine if the congress had been in power in the place of BJP what would have happened to the reply from SBI. This morning I had a hearty laugh reading about SBI petition in papers. Anybody, who has worked in such an office, will know it is a 2 hrs job. Even if information is in 45000 different pockets all over India, it can still be collated in 2 days. I had thought SC will be naive to accept SBI contention. Justice Gupta hit on the head of nail in the very 1st sentence. Moreover, Justice Gupta added another input that SBI was earlier asked to keep info ready / handy. If SBI thought 3 weeks was less time, they should have approached as soon as judgement came, not now In such a scenario, SC should initiate contempt proceedings to safeguard its reputation. Otherwise, every body will start coming to SC at last minute just like SEBI came earlier in Adani case.

Supreme court should give maximum 7 days time to SBI to submit the report. After that no mercy. Strict action should be taken against the chairman and directors for contempt of court and elections should be postponed until the EC makes it public.

This is how public system works and public accept it. 1) Information which SBI should be ready with always, they didn't 2) Information which SBI should submit, they are not going to do it. Was this optional or mandatory for SBI? Doesn't failing to submit report in time claim stringent punishment? What kind of response from SBI is this? Yes, it is a test of SC. People who are powerless or moneyless fear SC, else doesn't care SC.

It's a blatant contempt of the Supreme Court. Especially if they had told the SBI to keep the necessary information ready, as then it's obvious without a shadow of a doubt that that earlier order has not been complied with. Further, any banking institution anywhere in the world always keeps it's data base upgraded. It's foolish to believe that the SBI hasn't done so. Therefore, it's a lie and the top brass of the SBI must answer and take responsibility.

The fact that records were maintained physically is astonishing..There is every chance of destruction of records if this matter is not addressed in a day or two.. Anybody enabling such destruction could be awarded heftly..
