I have always been drawn to the beautiful feminine even ruffly clothes but I don't feel comfortable in them . I feel comfortable and confident in classic, tailored clothes. I even crease my jeans and wear a blazer with them. I think it's because I was a teen when styles changed from sweaters and skirts to jeans and flannels. When they talk about children of the 60's or 70's they forget about the ones who were both . We went from strict dress codes to Woodstock 😂

Hi Shannon! I just love your chats, they are soft and stylish. You are a different kind of crochet channel and very comforting to listen to. I agree. I have made many things but was not comfortable wearing them, so they sat for a bit, then gave them away. I, like one of the comments was born in the 60’s (1962 to be exact) but did my self expression fashion in the 70’s. I was a little of both, wanted girlie but not too girlie. And now as I’ve “grown up” 😉, want comfort without flashy, edgy but not over the top. I like your style and love wearing skirts with tshirts. I’m trying to lean a bit more to the cropped style without being too short. Thank you for your delightful chat. 😊

This is great advice! Thank you! I was thinking about your video as I walked across campus today, feeling confident in my crochet top over my long dress. I think my three words are very close to yours: comfort, whimsical, and feminine. Fit and match are also important. I’ve made many multicolored tops and sweaters because I want to use up odd balls of yarn only to find that the items don’t fit as well as I’d hoped, or they just don’t match much in my wardrobe, or they stretched too much after the first wear and wash, etc. Since starting to make things for myself (5 years ago), and then trying to shop my stash as much as possible during 2020 and 2021, I’m now trying to be more intentional with what I make, making things that will fit better, match more, and hold up to washing (in a delicates mesh bag).

Omg! I totally needed this video! Definitely going to try out the three word method. I love crocheting but end up struggling a lot wearing my pieces because they usually feel so non-authentic to myself. I definitely lean more towards a classic, structured, feminine, a bit academia inspired looks and a lot of the times, I don't think it matches crochet. My pieces always feel too whimsy and boho, which is gorgeous but simply doesn't work for me. Love the video!

you describe your style as rock'n'roll and feminine, listing lacey, sheer, or tulle recent purchases, and a preference for dark, long flowy items... all while wearing an (awesome) Fleetwood Mac tee .... I think it seems natural that you need a sprinkling of Stevie Nicks inspiration in your wardrobe.

I find myself routinely going through a destash of my finished objects because I will buy this fabulous yarn, I will make it into something gorgeous, but then I just won't wear it hardly ever. I can count on one hand the amount of pieces I gravitate towards routinely. I know that I keep a couple of them every time I go through a destash because of the sentimentality behind the yarn, such as a crochet cotton cardigan I made seven years ago that I've only worn a handful of times but I keep it because it was my very first crochet garment. I will say, it is nice looking in my closet and seeing all these beautiful things I have made, it definitely inspires me. So if we're nothing else I keep them because of the inspiration aspect.

I did a colour and style workshop in the 80s. It has been so useful for guiding my wardrobe choices. When crocheting though the creative side goes crazy and there are projects I like but wouldn't wear outside😂 I love making shawls but I'm not feminine or fussy so love to drape them in my bedroom or wear as sarong or scarf. It's all about finding your balance and identifying the elements you like about the item.

The words that came to mind when you were trying to describe your style were "youthful" "trendy" "modern". The shawl from EFA has a more "mature" feel to it. It's lovely, and elegant, but does seem more suited to someone who leans more toward "classic" style.

I would have to say at the moment that my three words are: Vintage/Retro - I am rebuilding my wardrobe and focusing on the late 1920s, 1930s, and early 1940s. With other pieces that catch my fancy. Quirky - okay I have a 1940s dress pattern and I am making it with a pink/blue pinstripe fabric. But the quirky part is I found this crochet shawl pattern by Cotton and Whiskers that looks like a flamingo. So the body and wing are across my back and one shoulder. And the head is draped over my other shoulder. It is crocheted so it looks like two layers of wings. And the head does have a beak and safety eye. I also have another shawl pattern from the same company that is a peacock. For my third word I am like you and will have to say feminine. While I enjoy my jeans and exercise shorts (I don't know what else to call them. They have the sweat wicking fabric). I prefer dresses and skirts. I didn't know this was a thing but your video is definitely giving me things to think about.
