Love isn't something you feel, it's something you do. It's in the little things we say and the menial tasks we do every day for each other. If this woman doesn't learn that love isn't about sparks, she will never have a lasting marriage. She will just jump from fling to fling looking for excitement, but feeling emptier and emptier as life passes her by.

@@laurens7492 It's not about her being scared. What no one is willing to say here but is pretty obvious is that, she married her ex husband because she was aroused by the qualities he possessed (aka 'boyfriend material'). However, later on she realized that her then husband did not possess the qualities to keep a marriage stable (aka 'husband material'). So she divorced him. Now, she married this new guy because he's husband material even though she's never been aroused by him. If she was in her early 20's and single, enjoying life, she definitely wouldn't have given this person even a second of her day. The only reason she even dated him was because he was what her ex husband wasn't even though she is aroused by people like her ex husband. This marriage had a terrible end even before it began.

You can practice desire all you want, but if the physical chemistry isn't there, it isn't there. You can't make yourself have chemistry with someone. It sounds like the chemistry (the spark) is what she is missing. That aspect of a relationship is more important to some people than it is to others. For some people, getting along great and being best friends is enough. For others it is not. I feel bad for the husband here because it doesn't sound like she sees herself being with him in the long term.

When you're so focused on the list and checking off boxes you can miss looking for that spark connection and an actual loving relationship. Almost everything is based off of expectations and dreams instead of being intentional. She's bored already and wants someone new. I wish they were able to talk through this more in depth, but I would say that a spark in the dating period is important. My husband and I had a spark in our dating time and it really helps us throughout our marriage in the tough and fun times.

This second marriage sounds like a rebound from the first marriage and that is a red flag for another failed marriage. Also, it seems there’s no chemistry in the marriage. I hope the caller will go to a reputable marriage counselor with her husband and see if this can be worked out. If not, part ways amicably and keep going to counseling for yourself. Sounds like you have some healing to do before you get into another relationship. Best wishes.

The problem is that most people view love as a purely emotional thing. It is emotional but it also has action to it. Love is a choice to serve one another, be committed to one another, and to forgive one another through the ups and downs of marriage. If you're willing to cop out at the first sign of emotional apathy, then you are not living up to your marriage vows, which promise to stay whether for better or for worse. I pray this lady understands what true love is and sticks with it!

You need to have dreams to support. If your partner is supporting your family and professional ambitions, that would be lost in a divorce. If your partner just checks off some boxes, lots of people will check off those boxes. As the good sergeant says, "This is my rifle. There are many like it. But, this one is mine." After being in a toxic relationship, I realized how abnormal that was. There are so many good people out there. The goal is to find the good person and then build something that makes them and you, a unique pairing.
