I had my ancestor altar in my bedroom for a long time. And my ancestors were just fine with it. You are the altar. Initiation is something I’ve never been interested in. It’s too patriarchal for me. I let spirit and ancestors lead me. They have led me to become a occultist and work with the angelic realm. They have initiated me. I’m more solitary.

Completely agree! Our ancestors live in our blood, so shouldn't we be able to honor them by honoring ourselves? Also, I completely agree with you re: patriarchal religions. Women's bodies are our temples and churches. Men have completely externalized everything that is internal within a woman. It's actually women that are the altar, and specifically our power comes from our wombs. I'm so happy to see more black women learning about the Sibyls too.

This is so true. I've been communicating with and venerating my ancestors and guides consistently for about a decade. I'm just now feeling confident enough to really teach another person thoroughly & like I have a clear solid grip/ understanding. Not sure how these folks move on to the deep end so quick. Similar thing happened to me. My aunt would not allow it. Told me she had dabbled in dark magic to get a love spell done on someone and nothing happened but problematic stuff and she didn’t want me inviting evil entities in the house. Then her and my cousin proceeded to make fun of and mock my ancestral alter before making me take it down. It made me feel horrible, screwed up my mental. There were things I did poorly too. Like putting my alter in my room where I needed to get dressed, only because I felt I couldn’t put it anywhere else. I am feeling the consequences of my mistakes and my aunt and cousin’s harsh words. I guess I wasn’t really ready. Sorry for the long story.

I don't know why I've been close to my grandfather and especially great grandfather and now I know why. They practiced Lucumi and they were always were so close to my mother as I am. My mom tells me I am so much like great-grandfather in so many ways in my mannerisms from the way I eat to how I do rituals with plants, etc, and no one taught me, I just do. They say that "The water always knows its source." Meaning that water will always flow where its ancestors had flow before. If it is in you, it is in you and no one can take it away from you. I was also recommended to do rituals with my ancestors first, acknowledge and get to know them first to know exactly my path and where I came from. This is to secure the right path for oneself without getting hurt or having a full commitment like being initiated and doing the hardcore rituals. I've been told since I was a teen that I would be a Santero or practitioner of lucumi and it has to do with my family tree having history with the practice. Many also told me to be careful, because necromancy does run in the family deeply on both sides. 😱🤔 This is why knowing your ancestors is important. You don't want to set up just anyone up there. You need to be careful. I see so many just putting whoever up on that alter table. Big NOPE! Thank you for your video about the DON'T. So many have no idea what they are getting into. I have an idea due to family background, but it is always nice to have a deeper understanding from an outsiders' perspective as well to get an even bigger understanding of it all. My alter (poorly maintained b/c of ignorance- left candle burning-turning bathroom mirror into portal) was exploited by gifted “earth angels” with gifts. My ancestors showed me how my alter was being exploited (after I let go of toxic habit) My mediumship gifts (born with them). have been guided and cultivated by my ancestors and guides. There are no such thing as Orisha Altars!! we do no add Catholicism in African faith based symptoms. Alters come from energies of Christianity and the Catholic faith. This teaching is an absolute no and taboo as we do not put alters up for races. We only put alters up for ancestors and spirit guides. Live in powerful vessels that have ceremonies those vessels to bring them to life, and the outside of them are carefully washed and prayed over through an extensive ceremony with many others who are crowned priest and priestess. Prayers are done through IFA, Oba and all who are crowned with ceremonies. Stop disrespecting ancestors of Africa and giving the wrong information on their rights of passage, and the true methods of respecting their faith
