Yes. I really didn't like the Davenport signing. The likeliness that he stays healthy half the season is very small, that he can get back to that one good season with 9 sacks even smaller. Houston is a great rotational piece off the other edge, but we need another good end that can contribute a sack every 3 or 4 games to go along with him. Davenport ain't him, he's a reserve that we way overpaid for.

@johnboehmer66837 ай бұрын
Where are we deepest? Right where you said, QB! I really think Hooker is a very good QB. If he adapts well to the NFL game, he will actually be great. And Goff REALLY showed us a lot in the playoffs last year. We can all rest assured that he is that QB that can win us a Superbowl, based on those 2 great, 1 very good playoff games.

I'm excited to see us play this year the defense especially upfront significantly changed, I'd like to do a little more in cornerback even though they addressed it as well as wide receiver, we were three points away. @LavaDesert7 ай бұрын
Some good points, but we cannot be done as Injuries is a vital and often forgotten factor in professional team sports. We need a solid above average replacement on the Defensive Line. Hi priority is also drafting a potentially Elite WR at the 2 spot as Jamo is still a question mark, he needs 4 catches per game This season, plus this adds vital depth if the number one or two guy goes down. Thirdly, we need depth that can compete for a spot on the Offensive Line.
@johnboehmer66837 ай бұрын
Well, we're not done - the draft is Holmes specialty! He should get us another 2 game changers (not 3 or 4 like in the past years with these lower picks), we'll be good. As far as your D line replacement, I really doubt we get anyone else until the 5th round. Between Levi, Paschal, and Martin, surely one of them will emerge to be a rock solid backup/rotational piece. Paschal is that already, actually, if he can stay healthy.. At WR, I think we probably do go with the best receiver available in the second or third round, though I don't see the need. Raymond has legit speed, and has managed 500 plus yards every year for us in the 4 slot. I wouldn't call Williams a question mark anymore either. Not elite, but he'll be very good, a bit better still than the solid play he gave us in the final 6 or 7 games. He grew up a lot last year I think. No one needs 2 elites. And then of course there's Laporta... I fully agree with the need for another starter-caliber guard or tackle, our reserves are junk. I don't really see Sorsdal getting much better, we need help there. Either use our number one on the oline, or another quality DE. No way we can ride with just Davenport/Houston.

Unless you’re talking an elite receiver that can be a top 3 receiver on the offense then getting a “jump ball guy” isn’t a good strategy because you’re telling everyone in the stadium why you’re bringing him in. Also, Lions can’t afford taking a WR high with bigger needs being CB and DE. Wouldn’t mind a WR I’m the draft because we need a slot guy but I wouldn’t put a premium on jump balls.

Otherwise they go edge rusher first round or then corner in the second round to place behind Carlton Davis on the depth chart . If Brock wright gets picked up by the 49ers in free agency then they might go tight end . I can only imagine they go offensive lineman later in the draft

I think with the additions, the defense will be a bit better. The run defense was elite, but I think they were weak against the pass. Some of that was a lack of finishing on the pass rush and some was their stop the run first focus. If the Lions can add contributors at edge, safety, and outside corner they could be tough. I think adding depth at safety should be easy as there are many good ones unsigned, so they can value shop. Edge and corner likely will be addressed in the draft.

Reader should add to the sack total, even if he isn't making them. He can get push on the inside and soak up double teams. The push doesn't allow the QB to step into throws and moves him off his spot. And he'll hold the middle so mobile QBs shouldn't be able to run up the middle for 1st downs un- touched on man coverage routes.

We don't win the KC game without that ridiculous fake punt from our own 20-yard line he called that we converted. To that point, we looked overwhelmed, unable to move the ball. after that fake punt, we drove right down the field for a TD, and got our mojo back. He's only about a C+ head coach with in-game decisions. But in preparation and motivation, A+. And he deserves plenty of credit for that awesome coaching staff we have also. He undoubtedly has plenty to do with why Johnson came back 2 years in a row when we had no business keeping him.
