For some reason I never thought that painting is something that can be learned piece by piece. I thought that artists are somehow just able to draw, and I can't draw, and that's it lol.

im a firm believer that nobody comes out of the womb and is great at drawing. nobody comes out knowing perfect anatomy or color theory or anything. its just that some ppl r more drawn to, well, drawing! and theyre good at picking things up easily and interpreting it in ways they understand ive been drawing for *years* and i still cut off the legs in my drawings bc i have *no clue* how to draw legs past the knee 😅 im also decently good at hands but Terrible with arms. i kinda just- picked up certain parts of anatomy but didnt learn the others? i honestly dont "study" much >.> its very difficult for me and i never learned how (adhd kid lol) so i still dont "study" when doing art and often get frustrated when i do ;-; so i just learn very slowly and honestly i dont mind it much! really all it is is just continuing to practice and breaking things down into pieces that u understand. there isnt a disconnect between "ppl who can draw" and "ppl who cant draw". we're all ppl and all of us can draw, ur skill level depends on whether u decide to keep going :]

@@moonlitdreamers Thank you so much for sharing your story. And omg, this is so relatable, like I mean it!! Like I'm quite comfortable with drawing the upper body but for some reasons I never touch the lower body even once. I do plan to learn to draw the leg and stuff but keep pushing that plan back. I guess if it became necessary in the future, the day I learn the leg would finally come but I just don't know when that day will come lol Anyway, thanks for the comment and the story! Here’s something else with glass Because it’s translucent, the bg color is kind of important to sell the effect You used a grey bg for the jellyfish when in the photo the bg was white So painting the legs with a lot of white is going to make it look more like colored glass compared to translucent since it doesn’t match the bg and has no obvious object it’s reflecting I’m sure there’s something with relative color too in having a different background color that makes it harder too 🤔
@vuonglinh3922 ай бұрын
Ohhh that's a great observation!! Usually I just gloss over the background since there's a time limit. However the more I study these translucent objects, the more I realise how important the background could be when we want to creat a translucent illusion. I am thinking about whether should I focus a little bit more on background in future study too yk
@ObsessedwithZelda22 ай бұрын
@@vuonglinh392 My suggestion would be to pick out the dominant color of the bg and just use that. Probably not a huge need to paint a lot of the bg if your goal is learning the objects. In this case just a near-white, flat bg would have been good. Though if you’re doing 0 color picking, I understand how getting even just 1 color right can be kind of time consuming I wish you luck in your endeavors whatever you decide o7
@vuonglinh3922 ай бұрын
@@ObsessedwithZelda2 Ohhhh thank you so much for the suggestions!!! That's really great! I will try it the next time I study something transparent. @ObsessedwithZelda22 ай бұрын
@@vuonglinh392 Oh I meant 0 Color picking as in not using the color picker tool on the ref photo, yeah. I don't do that practice myself too much, but I know a lot of digital artists do train their ability to see color correctly by challenging themselves this way.
@vuonglinh3922 ай бұрын

from the thumbnail I actually thought you have studied it and now you can draw it . but you only copy things one by one. nothing more. you should have then just drawn a random shape and applied what you learned without a ref because otherway you won't learn anything or understand but just well learn how to copy
@vuonglinh3922 ай бұрын
Thanks for your suggestion. Well while I think your idea is a great way to test what we had learned from the study, however, I think trying to copy the ref photo is a great first step to learn and paint a texture that we are not familiar with. And the purpose of these videos is more on the side of that very first step, to see what I can do with things I don't understand in the limited time span of 2 hours.
