With what we have experienced and been through with Labor and AnAl, I think a 2 year starter term is enough time to prove themselves, then they can be voted in to do 3 years, or voted out and we start at 2 years again. I can understand Pauline’s frustration with the voting but I have to agree with my wise, late father who said that many Australians would be too lazy to come out and vote if it wasn’t compulsory. We could just become apathetic and the turn out could become pitiful - especially if the footy was on. A fixed three year term sounds good!

@@noweternity3101 : Fortunately for the rest of the world, America is not the only country that does not take away your democratic rights to decide whether or not to vote. You contradict yourself. If you are forced to vote then it is NOT your decision to do something about the outcome it is the government's decision to keep the two major parties in office. Most democratic countries do not force you do vote against your will as they see that as being anti democratic (and rightly so). If you are forced to vote under threat of penalty then you are not voting in a completely democratic election. Choosing not to vote is in itself a vote of no confidence in any of the candidates. And, it does work in the US as well as it works in Straya. Both countries have a useless leader, so there is that.

My child is mental disabled and can't walk and talk someone at her school registered her to vote because she was 18 and still in special school. She isn't able to even think in a form where she would come close to knowing to what she is doing I have had to write many times to explain why she isn't voting so she isn't fined she should never been put in this position and now I will need to write ever time it's a time too vote it's ridiculous! I think the school should be in trouble for clearly abusing the voting system by signing up disabled kids who can't even come close to knowing what's going on

As an actual fact, a lot of us want the federal parties dissolved, deregistered and form an entire new governing system that works for taxpayers present and past, our border and our miltary. We need coal and nuclear. Bring in nuclear and transition from coal to nuclear when we are ready. Remove the taxpayer subsidies from wind and solar. If wind and solar is so cheap then it shouldn't need to be subsidised. Make the investors pay for it out of their own pockets.

Voting is not compulsory in Australia. What is compulsory is attending a voting stand and having your name ticked off. You can then walk out the door having dropped the voting slip in the recycling bin. Having our names marked off in a national role call is compulsory. This role call is a way to check up on the whereabouts of the citizens and possibly used for statistical purposes. Who knows. But it is a deception when they say voting is compulsory.
