Exactly. Someone on the ground filming may capture suspects faces better than their CCTV. People overtly filming may also help prevent some low level crime such as shoplifting. I’m sure there are a lot more pros than cons when it comes to people filming.

I think you are all mistaking contractual access, with public access. When you enter any shopping centre in an enclosed and controlled building you enter under a contract that you consent to the rules of the building. Again however, as it’s a private building their rules will say security can record for security purposes (as they aren’t legally allowed to keep the recordings for longer then an allocated period). That being said however, hunting down anyone who records (including vloggers) is a bit pathetic really. It just suggests to me that they likely don’t do a very good job of stopping actual crimes though - the max punishment any person can get for recording is literally kicked off the premises because theirs no legally bound consequence unless they refuse to leave in a reasonable manner. Whilst the security man is right in his reasoning, what he is forced to do in his job is just sad.

any place like a shopping centre is a privately owner building that gives access to the public, now you can walk in and film but if the rules put in place by the owner states no filming, security have to ask you to stop filming, as in order to be in the building you must follow their rules, if you refuse then they can physically remove you as a last resort if you refuse to leave.

The Oracle needs to reexamine their policies. In one place they say all photography needs permission but in another they say selfies are encouraged. They mention commercial photography in the same section as personal photography as if it's the same thing. IT IS NOT. When the centre stops people taking their personal photos they are trampling over peoples human rights - all in the name of controlling their business image. They have no moral or ethical standards when they think a company's brand is more important than a person's rights. For ref: Selfies are welcomed, but remember that The Oracle is private property, professional photography and filming is only allowed if permission has been granted in advance by the centre team. Filming, photography or sketching of the building’s infrastructure, or any members of staff, is not permitted under any circumstances. We retain the right to refuse photography, filming and sketching at any time.

So how do the public know that the rules that control their actions and sometimes thought can change the moment they step over some imaginary line. The security guard pointed out the signs - hidden away in a corner of the entrance that no one ever looks at. Why do they not look? Because they don't think the rules can change from one public place to another.

Put simply you can film in publicly accessible places like the Shopping Mall. But, the Management there and Security can trespass you if they like such as for filming as it is as they put it "Rules" to follow in their place or they will trespass you and ask you to leave. Even if it is legal they can still get rid of you, but they cannot stop you from filming or ask you to delete that footage even if they trespass you and ask you to leave the building that is all they can do.
