This is a video I REALLY didnt want to make. The flipping series ended when the Rover 75 arrived as I liked it so much, but the time has come for it to find a new loving home, so some final love in the shape of rust proofing and a last big clean.

I spent nearly 15 years living in the far North of Scotland. In the village was a well established Rover dealership J & G Sutherland. Edward Sutherland had inherited the business from his father and had been a BL, BMC, Austin, Morris and Wolseley dealer right through from the post war era. Back in the early 21st century he was selling loads of Rover 75’s and they were everywhere in Caithness. He bought one of the very last in 2004 in Burgandy metallic. It is now part of his legacy motor museum with a very low mileage indeed. Lovely cars that deserved better.

I think the nice thing about weird car twitter and youtube is that people are finally appreciating the 75 in the way it always should have been, and these cars are finally being viewed more widely as things to be treasured. You wouldn't happen to fancy replacing it with a slightly ratty Xsara VTS, would you?

@@furiousdriving Never mind there, there, They were never Great cars anyway, It's only a Rover, Time to move on... Something about fish in the sea? Some shxt like that anyway.. You get my point, It's not a Classic and it was never going to be.. I'm 53 and I've never even driven a Rover.. Well Except for my mum's (It's a MINI METRO!! THEY JUSY CHANGED THE NAME LYN!!) 😁 & I don't feel I have missed out on anything worthwhile. When I see a Car like this one I think of middle management types and sad suburban lives. The kind of people that could perhaps afford a (Lower end) BMW or MERC but it would have to be a year or 2 older with a few more miles etc.. & er, well y'know, What would the neighbours think? That's my thoughts anyway.. Make of them what you will. 🤔

@F4Insight-uq6nt That's a judgment based on zero experience of ever having driven one, or even owned one, and quite frankly you're very dismisive of something you have absolutely no knowledge of. There were many great driving Rovers on the road. Sure, your entitled to your opinion but it only comes across as very pompus due to having never experienced a 75. You do know furiousdriving owns 2 Rovers? lol.

I feel for you, Matt. I've hankered after a 75 for years. In fact, if I had the money, I'd offer to buy yours. Unfortunately, thanks to changing circumstances, I'm going to have to seriously consider selling my Saab 9-3 and changing to something much smaller and cheap to run. As you so correctly said, sad times.

My parents had a Connoisseur se in white gold when I was a kid 1.8 turbo manual with the cream leather interior, absolutely lovely car, we were living in the west Midlands at the time just a few miles away from Longbridge, i remember when rover went bust a number of my friends fathers lost their jobs in was a devastating blow to the area. Rover was a victim of bad management and undeserved bad press, the motoring press in particular top gear used rover as its punching bag always the butt of the joke but in actual fact the cars were far from the beginning as bad as the press would have you believe the 75 was a real treat to be in and far more of an occasion than the equivalent ford mondeo or the likes.

I get your reasoning behind selling the 75, but for me it would be one of the last of the whole collection to let go as they are such good cars and appreciating nicely at the moment. My vote would be to sell the Volvo, W123 or Punto (or all of them). Remember that selling more cars gives space and money to buy something else and isn't that really what all car guys want, to go car hunting😊

A fantastic car, that has your time, love and attention on it OK, there are few very minor blemishes to an otherwise pristine car, with great history and care over its life, if I had the money, I would snap your hand off, but alas I do not I hope its new owner gives it the future it deserves Thank you for sharing what is a piece of British motoring history, with Rover being the last volume car manufacturer prior to the collapse of the company in April of 2005 It is very evident just how much you adore this car and for reason, the fact this car is still going and in such remarkable condition, is testament to the build quality the vehicles had It is shameful how such a company, with such pedigree saw itself out with an Indian knock off that marred the brand prior to its demise, sad times Even more reason why these remaining cars need to be saved for future eyes to witness when Britain made great cars from British brands Keep up your EXCELLENT work, I enjoy your videos

From the scum on that coffee/tea mug you live in a hard water area, a filter jug would be an idea, better still an inline one above the house stop cock would allow the cars to be washed with soft water saving on detergents/products as less of a concentrate needed. Less boiler or hot water system furring up as well.

The problem with mint cars is you can't use them like a normal car. There's nothing much to sort. You either keep it long enough to gain problems or sell them. Probably would be an ideal keeper if it was a spare or second car. I always like my cars slightly rough enough that I'm not scared to use

I'd of snapped it up. Hope the new owner cherishes the beauty.

That Ceramic Glaze stuff seems pretty handy. I would order stuff but since Brexit, getting anything from the UK to here in Ireland has become a total nightmare. Generally takes 2+ weeks with a lot of 'will it or won't it come' breath holding and angry phone calls with the postal service. But you lads in the UK, support Mr. Matt and order some of that. I'll have a look into the price actually.

Does it really make any sense to spray wax in unseen parts of the car (which are very likely rusted)? On a new (or a good and endoscopic inspected) car I would do it with a Mike Sanders treatment, but your method seems not very useful for me. On the other hand - any waxing may be better than none.

I took it in to get some welding done, and it is too far gone to make sense doing it. It would take a full on restoration to make it safe. The odd thing is that Ma took delivery of him 3 days before her 60th birthday. I got the news about Arthur 4 days after Ma died. Still, parts of Arthur will live on in other 240s. A real shame because at just shy of 400,000 miles, the old boy still runs with the best of them.

I remember when it first came out, a TV journo waxed lyrical about it, a lower cost rival to a Beamer? Was that old Top Gear? Can't remember. Anyhoo, not a car that rings my bell but someone with £4K to spare will get a cracking example. Will this car ever become a cult classic? I say no, but the world of cars is crazy so who knows?

It was old Top Gear at that time. I think they've already started being thought of as classics, the number Ive seen at shows this year

Personally, I'd sell the Volvo and keep the 75. I think 75 prices will rise, whereas I think the price for a Volvo 740 is where it is. Plus the 75 is a better car to keep as a classic, and more usable, and a piece of our Motoring History.

Although I also like the 75 and hope to buy one, I would argue that the 740 is the more useful car given that it appears to be the most reliable car on his KZbin fleet. I think in the long run, the 740 will cost less in maintenance cost and, well, emotional costs. Matt would be agonizing over every little scrape on the 75, whereas if a lamp-post landed on the 740 he'd probably shrug his shoulders and laugh it off - there's a lot to be said for that.
