I thought I lived in a place with weird alcohol rules. Bars here open at 7am during the week and 11am on Sunday and can be open until 2am every day and there was a bill in the legislature last year for bars to be able to stay open until 4am. Bars closing before midnite is a weird concept to me.

Pubs and bars are different. Wetherspoons is pub not a bar so it shuts earlier to get all the drunks out so they can go to other bars in town and the pub can clean up ready for the morning.
