Dude. There's a guy who was on the "organ waiting list". He was waiting for a kidney and was hiking in the mountains. The SUS went there by helicopter to pick him up to have the kidney transplant he had been waiting for for nine years. Can you believe It?

Your problem is ongoing. At the hospital they pulled you out of the crisis. They stopped the pain. but you have to go to a specialist in the SUS and he will evaluate and schedule the surgery for free. If you needed emergency surgery, they would do it right away for free. But herniated discs are a chronic disease and are not treated like this without more complex tests. In Brazil, you can do this for free, including placing pins if you need to. if you are diabetic. You can get the insulin pen for free as well.

Yes, you are correct. I tried to set an appointment for treatment with SUS but they said that it was going to take 3 months to do the evaluation before doing the actual therapy but it would all be for free. I never ended up going and now my back is acting up again. 😢 Thanks for your comment.

UPA is more for emergencies, like if you had an accident, are bleeding, or having a heart attack. They will attend to you depending on how urgent the situation is. If you are in pain, even if a lot, I think is pretty standard for them to just give you a shot in the bum and some painkillers. No matter if is toothache or a broken arm.

And you only saw what’s she did in this video. She also, took me to 2 other hospitals, pharmacies, has cooked every single meal, went grocery shopping, covered for me at work. We used her health insurance to cover my medical issues, she found free physical therapy. We have a little business where we organize events and we have one coming up at the end of the month and she’s been taking care of everything, so we don’t miss out on money coming in. The list goes on and on. and with a smile on her face. I’m very lucky! She is a keeper! You are 100% right! Thanks!!

UPA is good in this case: When you are dying and the doctors know what you have to help you, so it probably will work. If you go there not knowing what you have, and you are not dying, they can treat you with some medicine that will not fix your problem and the real problem can be something dangerous and you go home and the worst happen. My friend went to UPA with pain in his head, but not that strong, so he got medicine, and when he arrived at home he was having a stroke. Also SUS is good to get medical exams when you don't have money and have time to wait weeks and sometimes months, when your problem is not severe. For example you have backpain, but you can still move, but you need the MRI/CAT Scan, and don't have health insurance, and you can wait for weeks or months to get it from SUS. Also SUS differs a lot from city to city. I live in a very good city that has a lot of money and few people compared to capitals, so SUS here works very well, you don't need to wait that much and the public hospitals are top tier. But in capitals cities there are millions and millions of people, so the wait time is bigger.

I think private health insurance in Fortaleza is relatively cheap, but it depends on your age, for young people, up to 45 years of age, it's cheap, and it also depends on your income, if you're poor everything is expensive.

Generally the treatment is with anti-inflammatory drugs and rest, but I think you can pay for a private health plan, in the case of trauma-treatment I think you would have to go to the Mesejana hospital, if you don't have a health plan or pay a private one. Emergency is free.👍

Hapvida is the worst health insurance plan in Fortaleza, lots of bureaucracy, long queues and terrible service in general. Unimed is definitely the best option when it comes to health insurance, and close to where you live there are several very good hospitals that accept Unimed, one of them being São Camilo (2 blocks from Monsenhor Tabosa). I have never had any problems with that hospital and most of the time there are very little people in the queues, especially late at night. They also treat herniated discs and back pain.

Yes, that's the crazy thing about here. You have good places of public health care you have on some parts of the city (specially in what we call "postinhos"), but you've some places of public health care are completly bad. The same way with private hospitals, you've some hospitals full of burocracy, slow service, and others that are high level.

Alright, I will put it this way... This video was terrifying to me (mainly UPA). I come from Brno which is the 2nd largest city in the Czech republic (it has population of only cca. 400,000 ppl). Czechia used to be a socialist republic 35 years ago so people's mentality is still kinda socialist. So, we do have "free" education/universities, free healthcare etc., but the taxes and various fees for almost everything are pretty high. Based on what I saw in this video, I would have to say that quality and affordability of healthcare in my small city is probably 10x better compared to huge Fortaleza. It is obvious that brazilian "free" healthcare and its quality is optimized around poor people from favelas and brazilian middle class probably avoids this kind of "healthcare" completely (if I were to guess). If you want to get better care you HAVE to visit some kind of privately owned hospital (like you did?). Which means having good enough insurance. Still, the fees you described seemed to be rather cheap for an American(USA)/European. On the other hand, I highly doubt regular poor folks from favelas would see them cheap as well. As for waiting times, they are similar all around the world. All hospitals are busy and all doctors are lazy. Still, spending more than 3-4 hours in a hospital is horrible. For Brazil, that is still very good. Heard stories about people waiting 12+ hours in brazilian hospitals.
@gdc4736
@gdc4736 23 күн бұрын
In Brazil from middle onwards, people pay health insurance, because it's way faster. If you are dying they will take care of you, and this is great of course. But when it comes to treatment or schedule surgeries, it will take a lot of time, a lot! So you can do a some procedures using the public system and pay for the rest down the line. The problem is that everybody in Brazil pay the public system through taxes, high taxes. So, you would be paying two times for health care. And if you need another example, well, politicians use, exclusively, the private health system.
