Learn better algs for your solving method of choice, and practice! For a LBL/Beginner CFOP user like me (LBL=Layer-by-layer), the last layer can be improved by doing f R U R' U' f for the L-shape OLLE case with the two edges on the front and right, instead of F (R U R' U')2 F' with the edges in the back and left. For the dot case, F R U R' U' S R U R' U' f' makes the top cross. Then, there's the 7 OLL cases, all of which can be knocked out by up to 2 uses of R' U'2 R U R' U R and L U2 L' U' L U' L' PLL can be done in 5 algorithms: A and E for corners, and U, H, and Z for edges (7 if you count Ua and Ub, and Aa and Ab as separate algorithms), and since all 5 of those algorithms only mess with one type of piece, you can do PLLE and PLLC in any order.
