I guess the best way to think of it is that the champions don't necessarily work differently because of the insane player who's playing them; the only thing is that against the players who don't understand the matchup, you get to do stuff that you really shouldn't get away with (for example taking a dagger into a zed hovering right there with r; suicidal but they might be scared if they don't know). That's the beauty of a game where you get better as a player, not your character.

bc it's true, kata doesn't have a good 1v1. The most simple but not always logical way to calculate this is just looking at a champions kit. If a champion's main damage/abilty's is AOE, its not likely going to be a good 1v1 champ but more of a team fighter. And if the champs main damage is single target then its likely going to be a good 1v1 champ. For example Irelia/fiora = good 1v1, Rumble/kennen = good team fight Kata is much better at a 2v2/3v3 rather than a 1v1 bc her ulti + daggers are going to deal much more damage cumulatively. Zed is a strange exception which is why I say this logic isn't always correct. Althought Zed R+passive are the only single target damages, he's Q's which are his main damage are mostly focussed on single targets, after all they lose tons of damage after first hit anyway. So you could still say zed is mostly single target damage. I don't think there's another midlaner except for control mages that have more AOE team fight potential than kata, but the difference here is that kata is still a melee runner with high mobility. So she can even out roam assasins. Carrying early/mid roaming fights is what makes kata unstoppable.
