Whenever you’re feeling down and sad just remember you’re an inspiration to many people including myself. My sales career is going well mostly because i’ve watched many videos online, including yours. I’m an SDR rn and I want to be an AE someday and i’ll push myself until I get that promotion. I know it’s hard but don’t compare yourself to anyone, you’re only starting, keep it up!

Agree man. Finished university at 29. Pivoted to Tech sales right after. 1 year in and I am just glad to hit good numbers being an SDR, while working my way to AE. Many people doing better than me? Yeah. But I am doing incredibly better than myself years ago. Fought my social anxiety. Making good money. Back in shape. A positive relationship with work. We are still early stage in the game.

Dale Carnegie comes to mind, never criticism condemn or compare. Love your content bud, you are on the path you are suppose to be on, we all are, some peoples paths are those reddit and linkedIn threads, others are to grind it out in other arenas. So long as you don't give up you'll get everything you are looking for.

Matt, I am ~6 months into my tech sales career. When I first started, i really enjoyed your content because of how passionate you were, and how much you embraced your job & had a desire to succeed. One of the lessons I’ve learned from being an SDR is that there is only so much you can control. You can’t always control whether the prospect will show up to a meeting, or if the deal will close, but I always always come back to asking myself the following: Am I putting in the necessary effort to succeed? And, how can I make tiny improvements day after day? Everybody, even outside of sales, has to navigate the complexities of comparing yourself to others. There will always be someone who has more money than you, has a hotter girlfriend, better looking, etc. But no matter what, like J Cole said, you gotta love yours. Gratitude is key. Wish you the best of luck!

I appricate your authenticity. Im relatively new to sales, I've been in solar now for the past 3 months and I feel behind because there's people that are super new and they are killing it. What I do to not feel that way is just focus on my inputs and the law of averages.

Started my Tech sales career after losing a ton of money due to a failed marriage and a failed business. After watching Tech sales videos religiously (Yours inclusive) and practicing everyday, I landed a role that pays five times more than what I previously earned. I am not where I was, but being able to throw a counter punch at life sure feels great. Keep up the good work.

Bro, you have developed all the skills you need. It's now time to venture out on your own, start your own business. You have the discipline to run your own ship. Do it!!! It's time!!! Take what youve learned and LAUNCH your own thing!!!! Go get em, Killer!!!!

You are doing great I think. Ever thought of a career outside of tech sales. Lots of other industries that you can sell in outside of tech and make great money. Also, just recently shut down my LinkedIn for a while. It's been great stepping away from it!

for me, having a sense of urgency at the earlier stage of your life is better, because you have more room for failures and more time to conquer them.

Sometimes what you're selling and who you're selling for can make a big difference. Also, you may not have to be forced into selling for or working with just one company. I'm closing for four companies right now.

1. Compare you to past you, not others. 2. Everybody's journey is different. 3. Do what I say, not what I do *cries in afrikaans*

My 17 YO daughter is a violinist and just spent 6 weeks in Brevard, NC being the small fish in the big pond for the first time... Her first week was a coming-to-Jesus kinda thing and she called me to talk it through. The two things I told her were: 1. We are very musical in our family but not like Juilliard or Chicago Symphony level so that's good news we can RELAX and ENJOY music! Work hard, yes of course, but the pressure to "win" is off our shoulders and that's good news. 2. Comparison is the thief of joy - always and in all ways. We should try to only compare ourselves to...our former selves, not other people. Am I playing this piece better than I did when I arrived 6 weeks ago? Did I learn some practice techniques from this teacher that I don't normally have? Yes. Did a friend actually ask me what I was struggling with and then show me how to work on that specific skill by simply flipping through my etude book and showing me some ways to work on that? Yes. THAT is the only "comparing" we should do if we want a happy fulfilling, successful life/career. Love, Your Sales Mom

When we look into the world and see successful people, if we can see them as inspiration, then the world is our oyster. Inspiration, not competition. A fresh take or approach to something, something I can learn and might help me...not compare and turn off the Netflix and sulk.

It's apparent that you have the stuff to excel in sales. Of course you need to continually analyze yourself and your technique, product knowledge, etc. That said, and this is hard for people to internalize, but luck i.e. randomness has its role to play in your sales outcomes. Your skill level, that is all other things being equal, amounts to a yearly income of $X. Of course you will almost never earn exactly $X, why is that? Perhaps for an extended period of time the clients you are speaking to get pushback from the board, or their partner says no way, these things always happen correct? But it just so happens you are meeting this impenetrable objection more than would normally be expected. Therefore your skill is just fine, you unfortunately had a bad run of luck/randomness. Conversely, if you have these same type meetings but with clients that are in fact bullish and ready to buy, 5 meetings in a row are like that, well you'll earn more than you would normally expect in 5 meetings. Same sales skill, vastly different outcomes. Too good or too bad results that happen because of things out of your control, well they in fact have to happen, and that is a part of your $X expectation. Bottom line, like many say in poker, you may just be 'running bad'. No one can say with any certainty of course what you 'should' be earning, just know that the longer you sell the more likely it is you'll be near that $X figure. So keep grinding, keep learning, keep thinking about your skill and how to improve- and those nice years will come over time, maybe even this year!

And this person is speaking the truth? 2 million deal is a lot of money. I think it also depends on the clients needs and who the client is. You can't force 2 million dollars out of companies. It must've been a huge client and that client probably has heard something from that sales company that made him pursue that deal. Also, don't compare yourself to others, you do your best and results will come. Some people were born to be sales people. Not everyone can be Lebron James, you do your best and hopefully opportunities will present themselves with time. But don't give up. life is a roller coaster, don't ever forget that!
