Early EXALT are quite simple, but it can still catch you off guard. Once I had an EXALT mission, i brought in some lower level soldiers to train them since I am like : “is just an EXALT mission, can’t be that hard”. I trigger one pod on my turn, and when enemy turn comes around, everything single EXALT pod decides to rush me and I was caught incredibly off guard by it, I had to fight like 5 pods of 3 EXALT at the same time without the jammer help since none was in range.

@@exequielgaleano9947 I actually lost my MEC, most of the time they can easily handle 2 pod of EXALT at the same time, but when you have like 8 EXALT chipping the MEC down, they will go down faster then expected

But, at the same time it could have been difficult getting them and they're very useful, so a loss could feel really rough. I think they aren't that difficult to set back up, as what is needed is to repair the mech and re-limb another mech trooper. 🤔

Odd, just a suggestion, don't use the hunker down option for the mimetic skin units, it remove their line of sight, which is what they are there for, just end the turn once they are the only unit with action, you will keep the line of sight without sacrificing anything... In this mission you had many exalt moving around without you seeing them because you hunkered down the assault, you are missing on overwatch shots

The issue with overwatch shots is it reveals the cloaked operative. What he *should* be doing is just picking everyone else's action then force ending the turn. That way sight is still maintained, but unwanted OW shots aren't taken. Same as you would end turn on a sniper in the middle of double tap when they have no target.

@@Muskelbiber007 Yes, i meant the overwatch of the sniper, but also the fact that by seeing the enemy moves it might help see where an enemy unit moved, like when a exalt went to the encoder place and Odd saw that only after the assault de hunkered down and it was just there... If an exalt would try a flank he could see the movement instead of just finding out in the next turn that one exalt unit disappeared

Personal log of EXALT Sergeant "Grey". Entry #2 I am quite pleasantly surprised! These rookies actually manages to score some hits against XCOM, sure they didn't manage to take any of them out. But I got a positive outlook this time around. It's the injuries that count! I am starting to think of it as chess, perhaps the right pawns moved at the right time. Making it difficult for XCOM to take out these operatives on more important missions in the near future. Besides the current missions of our cause. There is still a steady flow of new volunteers from countries abandoned by XCOM. With the recent testing of meld... the results have been mixed, surprising even in some cases. Who knew your heart would do such things with alien adrenaline running through your veins. But with the mishaps accounted for. We are sure the experimentation on the ones who matter can finally begin.

I was a bit hopeless once the main operative of the mission got at 1 hp and then wasn't heal. Like, if they die the mission is over if I'm not misundestanding. But it all worked well, so still can doubt Odd's skills as a Commander.

Instead of hunkering down I would rather end turn manually if you do not want to overwatch with your mimetic skin guy. This way, you can still see, what is going on in his surroundings.

If you’re really thinking on Base Assault (which I don’t recommend until you hit the next tier weapons at least), you need to start buying extra lasers and armor to put on your less used guys, even if they’re going to just stay in the barracks. When the aliens hit your base after, you don’t want a bunch of lower level soldiers armed with conventional weapons

Yeh, well, you're not alone in that sentiment about EXALT missions... It's so easy to get complacent once you have your next tier upgrades. More so once you get the most advanced stuff. I started taking low ranks to get promotions going, since most UFO and abduction missions were rather dangerous to take low-ranked soldiers on. I got complacent and ended up getting a snapshot sniper killed in an EXALT mission, and it could have been prevented. Yeeeeah...

I find Exault will only find your transmitter when the decoder is occupied by them (ie. 3 turns with an exault sodier in the red square and none of yours). They also bump rush the decoder.

Getting someone with Mimetic Skin concealed inside the hack zone is so OP. You can no longer lose the mission if you do it. Though you can theoretically get into a stalemate when everyone else is dead and you can't move, otherwise you reveal.

I'd be a little iffy on Alien Base Assault with the way your gear is right now. Lasers/Skeleton is a good place to be... right now. Next month, it's gonna hit you with Berserkers and their meat-shield amount of health. And multiple during the Base Defense. At that point, Lasers may not cut it. Might want to get to Plasma - and soon. Logistics Tactical Officer "Ruby" Log 25. Date: June 22, 2015 So, two things to remember about EXALT. One, ballistic weapons still hurt when applied with precision. Two, numbers can cause serious problems. Three, stay the hell away from flaming cars. Car bombs are dangerous. I've seen it happen many times before, and we often engage EXALT in urban areas. Being careless, reckless, and cocky is a near-surefire way to get someone killed out there. We were too close to disaster today. Let's not have that sort of situation again. But, out of one and right into the other. Got word from the Council a high-priority request that should be pushed to the Commander's desk as soon as possible. So I'll send that to him now. Details? Well, I guess I can write them down. General Peter Van Doorn - UN military officer. His convoy got hit by a military ambush. Unknown if there are any survivors, but Van Doorn is also one of the toughest survivors. I've heard of what he's lived. I doubt one alien attack will do him in. Good chance he's still alive, but not for long if we can't get him out of there. Luckily, he isn't far away: Argentina. Should be a hop, skip and jump away. Let's rescue the good man. Maybe we can share a drink or two again. I think I owe him one.

This map is always difficult. There are a lot of obstacles on the lower level, so few clear sight lines. If you do manage to get all or most of your team up top, the Exalt team will climb up and stop as soon as they reach the roof. That leaves them without cover, but they don't trigger overwatch shots.

The EXALT missions are freebies mostly due to the relay hacks forcing all of them to reload and basically waste their turn, but you kinda wasted all 3 hacks this mission. The hack should generally be your last soldier's action as a fail safe if you didn't kill all active EXALT soldiers, so using it as one of your first actions then spending the rest of the turn killing all active enemies means the hack was wasted, as it has no impact on pods that haven't been triggered yet. You could alternatively use it aggressively at the start of the turn if you're going to trigger a lot of pods and just try to get as much damage in as possible, but you have to be careful for explosives based off the enemy types. You should also try to chain the hacks if possible when there's a lot of active enemies to get you a couple free turns to trim their numbers down.

Blink and you might miss her, but Alicia "Watcher" Leigh has taken full advantage of her new Mimetic Skin's utility, riding a season-record streak of 12 consecutive missions (and counting) to move into a tie for first in Total Kills (45) and second place in Total Damage (416). Bradley "Kayzar" Hide has also made full use of his recent opportunities, putting himself into the top 5 for every stat except Total Kills within his first 5 missions. The lack of fanfare might be appropriate, however, as "Kayzar" is also the current holder of the Unsung award, dealing out 13.42 damage for every kill he secures. Personal Log of Micky “Frosty” Caldwell June 22nd Well no one died, medbay is busy again though. I am somewhat concerned by how willing these soldiers were to stay standing next to a burning car just because the Commander said so, and he only said so because he didn’t notice it was on fire. Like, the soldiers do come in and get graded on aim down at the range before they go out on missions but I’m wondering if the Commander could do with a vision check as well. Not that there’s much time to question these things since the Skyranger is already gearing back up to head out on another mission, council this time. I hope someone remembers to send them with their lunches.

Then the car exploded… Everything hurts but at least the squad is all alive. I see a new name among the dead - Georgina Magallanes. Must have fallen while I was away. When you get the hack terminals one with an operative with Mimetic Skin. So easy. Then again, this remake is alot easier than the OGs on any difficulty. The new ones are great games, still prefer the oldies though. They "make more sense" in many ways.

90% of Exalt Missions feel like this tbh. You normally keep being ahead. There can be 10% where Pod Spawns and stuff like this can overwhelm you, but even then, it never feels as critical as normal alien missions.

The early exalt missions are easy, as long as you use the hacks well (and aren't unlucky on their positioning of course). Wasting 2 on a single sniper in a bad position was pretty wasteful here. As they're on conventional weapons, they rarely kill in one hit, so hopefully the lesson is learned even without casualty this time.

this is such a major flaw with both xcom... you get your guys promoted to colonel and immediately the best thing to do is to bench them until the endgame wish there was some share % of exp if your guy is maxed already

That exalt heavy rolled the lowest possible crit dmg so very lucky..... Exalt will soon upgrade to elite.(more aim,hp,and gene mods). Elite snipers have depth perception and dam good ground and almost always spawn to high ground. Medic still has a weak aim and almost always heals so weakest threat.Has upgraded+40 defence smoke nade. Elite heavy has the biggest EHP and can fire rocket. The operative has an alien grenade and if not killed but injured gains offensive stats. Good luck commanders.

Panic in Asia is high and it‘s tempting to reduce it with satellites. But you can secure the South American continent bonus. And the next abduction mission in Asia guarantees a reduction and doing the base assault reduces panic world wide. Get the continent bonus. :)

This is the easiest map in the game if you just put all your guys upstairs and wait for them to come to the area. Usually it happens one guy at a time and they just get annihilated by your overwatches.

Exalt will usually stop when they reach the roof, so they don't trigger overwatch and they get a free shot at someone. They will die on the next round, though.

It's not too surprising. Rookies can have anywhere from 55-80 base aim. It just sucks how Odd has had bad rookies. Support and assaults usually get 5 aim per level. Snipers can do up to 10. Heavys can only do usually 2 per rank.

Interceptor Pilot, Log #24 - Aren Locke Ground team and the Commander got a bit careless. Not only did EXALT manage to get a flank in on Kayzar, but a car nearly took out Ibrihim and Durant. All three of them gonna be in the infirmary for a bit. It goes to show that even if our enemy can be easily dealt with, we can't get cocky. Overconfidence can put a person in a body bag. Finally got the chance to check up on Stargazer, and it seems that the time off is doing her some good. Turns out, she's been spending her R&R studying up on the aliens, our tactics and theirs, looking at the equipment that's been made so far, etc. Rather than getting antsy for the next mission, she's preparing for when she's actually needed; and it's her own way of relaxing. I also checked on Claudia again, after the terror mission. She was hurting, clearly, having saw Magallanes being added to the memorial. But she assured me that she was fine, that she just needed time to herself, so I let her be. Many of us have our own way of dealing with loss. Some grow numb to the deaths of our comrades, harden ourselves so as to not break; others continue to let themselves feel that hurt, that pain, as a way to retain their humanity. Next mission is a council mission at Argentina, to rescue and escort a UN official that got attacked by the aliens. Depending on how that goes, the Commander is considering assaulting the alien base right after. Discussions are being made as to how to proceed, the game plan for taking on the base. But when we do it will all depend on how this rescue mission proceeds. Locke out.

So recovering the Covert Op went…messy but not terrible, Exalt as usual died by the dozen although Hide was almost shot down by one, then Ibriham and Durant almost died…but uh not really caused by Exalt themselves but because of a car that they were using for cover blew up. Commander Odd from what I understand was so focused on the battle he didn’t notice the car…was really close but the Commander is only human after all and I don’t expect him to make flawless decisions all the time…this war tires everyone, even those not on the field. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Something I wanted to talk about…or rather someone is Georgina Magallanes the brave gal who became our Mec Trooper, more than being that or even a soldier she was a war photographer and from the little I got to know of her, she had an eye for art itself. She could do more than take photographs, she could make these beautiful posters but she didn’t have time to make more than a few. However getting to speak to her, it’s clear that despite seeing a lot and certainly one who could be fierce and determined, she wasn’t some heartless or cold person but someone who was quite understanding, I’m curious as to why she might of Volunteered for the Mec program when it seems she wasn’t exactly enthusiastic about it, I guess it might of been that determination I mentioned…if the invasion goes through then what would even be left to take photos of? Well I do have a smartphone, maybe I could start taking up some amateur photography to pass the time. Hm? Pretty sure exalt doesnt fire rockets, but they will start carrying alien grenades prly next mission. Also, never intel scan when you just finished a mission, all cells go into hiding for several days

They do fire rockets. It's just rare. It seems like the programing mostly goes for groups if they use rockets, but I have seen them go after single units.

@@srellison561 wow I looked it up and you're right, that's crazy! I have 537.6 hours logged and most of that is enemy within, and I've NEVER seen it. This may have to do with my play style, I'm super aggro on exalt missions and just dashing for those relays to save my butt, Odd's playstyle will be more likely get him rocketed as having all your units in full cover seems the most likely scenario for a rocket.

@@jodhweijoundica3453 He's too conservative for my taste, but I do save scum and he's taking whatever happens, so I understand why he plays that way. 90% of the time aggressive works great, however, that 10% will lose you troops. I've played 674 hours, so far. That's only a couple more playthroughs than you. I probably play a little less aggressively than you, but that's only because I've run into 2 or 3 pods at one time in both XCOM and XCOM 2.
