It's still a valid question, if she can go forward, why can't she go back? It's one of the reasons why it's dangerous to introduce time travel in a story, because it requires a lot of suspension of disbelief or very strict rules.

Why? Can anything go back in time in the real world? Perhaps but probably not possible for people is it? But, you can make time go a bit slower. Or in theory I think almost stop. And in turn I think you could make time go faster. Also, we know that the world has moved on like normal even while the fruit was in effect. So the fruit really did nothing to the rest of the world. In other words we know the effect is only taking place in the individuals targeted by the fruits effect. So what is the effect? We call it time travel. But how do it really work? What is the most simple way to make it do its thing? Is it to physically move the targets, push them forward in time? Or would it rather be to lock them in time. Basically sealing them away for 20 years. Where they are not really moving at all. But rather are stuck in a dimensional space separated from our time. Basically the fruit do not really move or effect time itself, it rather locks out out of the world in general for a set amount of time. And the result is time travel. It do not seem much different to me that putting someone in a block of ice for 1000 years and have them wake up. The result for the person is the exact same. They find themselves suddenly 1000 years after they last blinked. Unless it is a space where said character can still think and do stuff. An nontraditional space. I would say that sealing someone away would put them in the same sort of time lock. It is a bit more complicated than simply pushing someone forward in time. After all, if you just did that, then your body would just be stuck there as a doll for 100 years as the world around you move super fast. Another twist on time travel to me or at least time manipulation. Is the stunt pulled in bleach, with the super human drug that made every second seem like forever.

My best guess is that people may see it as a case where it seems like Oda is introducing a power that exists only to serve the plot in a way that’s completely beneficial to him as a writer. ie. Lazy. Another example of this would be Oda needing a memory wiping effect so he gave it to a completely unrelated power in Sugar. Although I guess in this case, he removed a power that’s pretty standard for time travel.

"My fruit can only go forward" is nonsense, but at least it minimizes the plot holes until Od a changes his mind. If you think about it the Toki Toki no mi must be the rarest fruit in One Piece universe, almost at legendary status. Because the user can always jump forward in time this fruits can simply cease to exist in your current timeline. Dudes, chill out. Imagine time is like a note book. Present is middle of the book / where they story is being written that very moment. Now if you use a power to go back in time, you literally cannot change what was written because it was already written. The pages are full of words, there is no space for you to put more words. However if you were to travel to the future (towards the end of the note book) the pages are empty so there is a place for you to partake/write in that story from where you travel to onward. Imagine you teleported 10 pages ahead which at the moment you teleported were empty. Now if you look back those 10 pages are now full so it would be impossible for you to move back even to the time you teleported from. Hope it makes sense.

I do not see how it would change anything. Things are as they are. So if I went back 1000 years. I would be a part of history just like I am now. I would be limited to do what I did 1000 years ago. I would however say. Time travel is rather complicated and scary. Say you went 1 sec into the future. Would you see the earth just speeding away from you as you are stuck in space? What about 1000 years back? Would you move backwards in space along with earth? Or would you again be stuck in space. Having to wait 1000 years for earth to show up? I like the idea of connecting your mind to someone else from the past. Or maybe yourself. And swapping minds. xD however that did not happen now did it. In other words. The only answer would be that you now have 2 different timelines.

If you travel back in time and if you change something there, the future you know would change. It would cause a time paradoxon and a new different world would be created on another timeline. For example if you kill a person in the past, then the same person in present time must logically dissappear. But what is with alle the time beetween the moment you killed that person and the moment in present where the person would have dissappeared. Evertyhing the person made during lifetime until the day you traveld to the past and killed him would be forgotten and erased? Thats unlogical and impossible. A new world with the fact, that the person died a couple of years ago, would be created. To travel into the future is on the other side logical. Read about 'time dilation' according to einsteins theory of relativity.

What if the toki toki devils fruit awakening is actually seeing the future since you can only go foward and not back. Since you already experienced the past you already know. The lady that ate the devil fruit KNEW about the will of D. Because she is from so far in the past like since the beginning maybe. My guess would be that, she CHOSE to die at the time that she did, was because she was happy being with ODEN and wanted to die in his lifetime anyway. Also she KNEW that roger WILL come back in another spirit, that being luffy. And therefore that's the reason she sent them exactly 20 years in the future. In LUFFYS timeline. she knows about the will of d!!!! she knew that even though ROGER was gone the will of D would still continue in LUFFY time. Thefore 20 years exactly. People dont seem to understand, Oda doesnt need to go into details about this whether he does or not. If you go back in time then the story of the strawhats and everything involving roger, whitebeard, ace, any point in history would be fucked up the ass and have a possibility of changing causing a paradox to whoever has the fruit. Plus there is the fact if you revert time that means there is multiple devil fruits in existence if you go back. The person who goes back would literally be the main character and god, its very simple and not hard to comprehend.

I think the reason the Toki Toki fruit can only go forward is because of the devil fruits physiology. Remember two people can't have the same devil fruit simultaneously nor can one person eat two devil fruits (aside from BB). If you go back in time that means you''l be in the same time-plane as your past self. Meaning there will be two of the same devil fruits present at the same time.

You actually can travel to the future in real life. It would just require you to move close to the speed of light. You experience time differently when moving that fast. Of course this isn't possible right now, but just talking about the physics of it, it is possible.

Wrong, traveling close to speed of light will make time almost stop from your perspective. It is the opposite of traveling into the future. To travel to the future, you would need a body with incredible high gravity, like a black hole. Watch the movie Interstellar, they pictured "traveling to the future" really well, when it comes to real life physics.

Time almost stops from my perspective. Therefore time behaves differently for me than how you see it. If you watched me fly for 5 years then I would experience this same change in time as 4 years depending on how fast I was going. Special Relativity, look it up.
