I remember whenever my ex-colleagues get news of a new recurit joining us next week, some of us will immediately go and search all the SNS sites for her name and check out things like her facebook posts, insta posts and such. Its when i see ppl doing such "background checks" on others ppl that i feel that one day, someone will do the same to me. thats why i dun post my personal life online. its really scary how much information ppl can get from those photos, like where you like to vacation, or what you like to eat, and such.

Singapore as a small country should take steps to prevent loss of individual money to scam especially using digital currency. Perhaps we can use some of the traditional security like the trusted "serial number" on old printed notes. This can be elevated to encrypted "serial number" for each digital denomination and if stolen or lost can be rendered void by issuing a new "encrypted" serial number for the specific individual digital denomination. This should be workable if the ASEAN country decides to adopt enhanced security measures for digital currency usage.

Singapore is targeted because there's a lot of loopholes in our laws and legal system ... For example the maximum punishment for some scam cases, a person who scammed MILLIONS of dollars are only liable to be imprisoned for only up to about 7 years and/or fined something like $15k .... of course its still a good deal for the scammer as they come away still enriched by millions of dollars after serving those punishment ! Look at the case of the chinaman who took millions of dollars from an elderly and stashed much of those money into his China connections .... anther case is the CEO who swindled many millions of dollars with fake wine investment and return to sg only to face fines of a much lower amount, even with imprisonment of 7 years he still gets to live luxuriously on the surplus scammed money that he stash away elsewhere when he gets out ....

SGD300k.. Thats the same ampunt my mum got scammed about 20 years back. Was by a singaporean scammer, a divorcee with a daughter attending polytechnic. If I see her again, I will really take my revenge. Her crime tore my family apart. My mum has post trauma and her personality took a 180 degree turn. I was a teenager back then and witnessed my dad sank into depression and my siblings and I grew up feeling insecure. Took time for our family to recover. That scammer that scammed my mum, got the easy sentence of serving a short time. Spent every thing she scammed off from my mum and my mum didnt get back a single cent from what she had been cheated of.

Whenever you are surfing the web, always set your mindset and tell yourself there is no free lunch in this world, whether its buying stuff online or these investment scheme. Always think to yourself that "yes, you are not the lucky one" and just ignore any proposal. People are not stupid to give you free money. Tbh, im unsympathetic towards all these scam victims. Its great that cna insider is raising awareness through these interview but some of victim said that its not they themselves are stupid, but the scammer are too good at scamming. I say bullcrap, who in the right mind will trust someone who you have never seen before and just follow their order and deposited 10-20k and some even resorted to borrowing money from friends. When something happened, and you are at vulnerable moment, sometimes you want to believe it, and makes you blind. Even if you're saying to you, it's something weird but no, it can't be a scammer, this can't happen, it's immoral. And the stock market is right. Even the bank can tell, looks not a fraud. But do you know what everyone. All data can be manipulated in the background. There is now a complain against a big crypto trading for this type of manipulation. So tell to anyone. I fell a little while. I was less firm and naive back then. I spent S$500 to learnt this life lesson. Basically it's from making aquientence, talk about investment, then show the very shady trading website with typo error, then he started calling in the middle of the night talking about the trading stuff. Giving pressure and I wad annoyed cuz I was about to sleep. Back then I already paiseh to hang up his call as we had a simple acquaintance relationship formed not like those stranger calls that you can just reject and hang up. So I followed similar steps but I was in sleepy and just wanna get things over and done with. When I woke up in the morning, when my mind cleared up, I realised how dumb I was. And all the red flags came together. So I made a police report. He person was continuing in contact with me on telling me how to operate but my mind came back to sense to prevent me from losing more.

Because the Media and Institutions mostly say, that strangers and poor people can scam, not the white collars. And if they do not write correctly, can be a scammer. This is the mistake that leads to wrong judgments. The scammers can write properly, are graduated from universities, ...and speak very well. For example in Europe, they say if they do not write "I love you/Je t'aime" correctly, it's probably a scammer !
