To the author: Don't regret it too much. Again and again guys fail to understand that no matter where they are or what country or culture they are in, it is the guy who pays - one way or the other. The difference is, in Thailand, this dynamic is much more above board and honest. The sooner in life we realize and accept this truth, the better it is and the more fun we will have. I met my Thai wife in America. She's a doctor and came here to do her residency with the intent to move here permanently (she'd gone to medical school and practiced for a year or so in Thailand's public hospitals afterward to receive tuition forgiveness). She found me on a dating app (again, in the US) and, to be honest, we've had what I would consider to be a perfectly normal relationship. When we visit Thailand, she usually meets up with some of her friends from medical school, and I'd say about half of them are still single even in their 30s. My brother lived in Thailand for ten years happily with a Thai girl. He speaks fluent Thai which I think helped him find the perfect lady. He’s recently returned to the uk with her. When he first went to Thailand many years ago he met a Thai girl in a bar, just as friends. He told me the Thai girl was very organised. She had twelve boyfriends from all around the world. She had selected them for ones that would come to Thailand and stay a whole month with her. She then showed him pictures of the men, saying this one’s is mr January, this one is mr February etc, nicknames based on which month they stayed with her. All of them sent her money each month, and of course paid for everything when they visited. She didn’t have a home, just stayed with the men in various hotels each month. IMO, it’s better to get a Filipina to live with you, tour around Thailand together. They’re cheaper, low maintenance, no language barrier and not being in the Philippines means no nagging relatives asking for money. Take your girl to a clinic and get her the implant and you can have fun for five years without worries about getting her pregnant.

One time, when I was in Chiang Mai, I went sightseeing tour with Thai guide. What I noticed she was kind of eying me. Abroad in a different country, I’d tell every date, every new friend, every Uber driver, that the USA isn’t the magical land that Disney & Rom-coms show. I’m a genuine honest informant. I used my most friendly tone and convincing speaking-voice and talked clearly in the local language. My info is a li’l bit of a downer, and these locals have had all that pop-media “America is Wealthyyyyyy !! Piped direct to them for decades. One, solitary, visiting, gringo cannot take away decades of glamor dreams.
