I am a parent of a son. I'm also gay. As a parent of my son the last thing, I would've wanted was to hear my son say he was gay. The frustrations of life just wanting to be accepted had me making plenty of wrong decisions to the point of trying suicide. I'm glad I never succeded. It would've been a selfish move on my part. His mother is a great mother who made it her business to learn that I loved her but could never be in love with her. My parents never questioned my coming out. They only knew I didn't want to die anymore. I am a Latino, a world of Machismo, with 5 other brothers. I fell in love with my friend, also my only wish at the time would've been to experience the love I had for my friend, only it was I who was in love. Painful as it was for me he never left my side as a friend. I love this short movie. It has a reality. Not all parents are accepting. There is no true understanding of having a homosexual child unless one seeks information. We all want perfect children, then what is perfect according to who's the world. Homosexual relationships are as perfect as any relationship if not tampered with.

Daniel... is your world lonely ?? I really want to know... I am sceptical about your world... I wonder if couples are really brave enough to sail together till their death across the sea of this rough & cruel world ?? Isn't it so painful when after staying together one partner breaks off to marry and have children under the pressure created by family; take the situation as shown in the movie Round Trip to Love (personally I think that these men use this family pressure as an excuse to break off from a relationship which is otherwise difficult and strenuous to maintain.... all parents relent to their children after a while so explaining it off and coming clean and standing firm is the solution and not a break up... I mean if it really is a true love)
@Drosa8264 жыл бұрын
t s , I will say that my dreams are being fulfilled. In life, love is painful. I have not given up hope on love, I’ve had to learn that if I truly love someone I have to let them go. It gives the chance that I could receive what I need. I find myself alone at times when difficult situations arise, I’m not lonely, I have those most important in my life to carry me. I also have a man who never asked anything from me and that is more than I’ve had before. We have each other and our own journey thats being fulfilled. We give space and time for each other, and with each other. I was in love with my friend some years ago, I still love him today, just not in love with him. It would’ve been much more painful to hold on waiting. There is always this feeling that longs inside for him, it just doesn’t hold me from going on. Selfish would we both be if we try something now. Yes I agree, men use family as excuses rather than admit fear with themselves. I rather challenge my fears and be happy than to have others make me unhappy. That’s not selfish. I will look up Round trip to love. Thanks

I have to agree with this not bcoz we're labeled as "Latins of asia"(Filipino) but due to the fact that we were born to exceed the expectations of our parents. We we're born to impress them, thats why I'm here hiding in the closet in order to avoid disgrace looks from them when coming out... Hoping that you'll be more considerate with your kid and make em feel ur a reliable person to talk to. In that way, they feel safe in admitting what they really were... Lol I talk too much, sorry if im too overboard
@Drosa8263 жыл бұрын
Kent, you sharing this is never overboard. Thank you. I had a tremendous fear of coming out, I didn’t have anyone to comfort me. You are not alone. You were born to find happiness within yourself. Love yourself, find someone you can trust and be able to express yourself. Parents fears and gay children’s fears run opposite ways. Understand, you are worthy of your own happiness, understanding, self esteem. If no one has said, “I love you for being you”, let me be the first.

I feel empathy for Yongjun, the boy did everything for Soohyun because he loves him so much. But to only be repayed of a breakup when Soohyun wakes up. But Yongjun is really a strong person. After all the suffering and pained he felt he still stand up and even faces Soohyun after what he did. And I really thank Mikyung for being a mature and understanding person for both the boys. And also accepting and opening her heart Yongjun. I really think she's one of the reason why Yongjun keeps moving forward aside for maybe forgiving himself and loving himself. I mean it's gonna be hard to stand up after all the people around you start to hate you and the one you love and did everything (he even sell himself to have the money to find him) betrayed you in the end. I'm just in awe on how strong Yongjun after all that happen. He deserve better and he can finally move on,l and be civil with Soohyun. He doesn't deserve Yongjun at all. Yes...... I just vent my frustration. Don't mind me And by the way good review and vision about the film... And I must say you have good voice to listen to.
@@burntherest9118 Well, the accident is not Yongjun's fault and he just almost die but not dead. When I say the word "betray", it's the betrayal of love. The love you thought it's your whole world is suddenly not anymore. The love you thought is mutual suddenly it's just you whose feeling it. The love that you did everything but in the end is gone. He was betrayed by love that he hopes and wait until that person wake up. The life and time he puts into this love suddenly was gone bybthe wind by the time that person woke up. That kind of betrayal..

@@vanruel3123 That the hard part when you did all you can but end up being not enough. Of course let give Soohyun, a benefit of doubt. Let's just think that he had a reason to do that. Dude. This is such a great analysis and you uncovered different perspectives that I never would have otherwise considered. I was hoping, so very much for the cliche happy ending for Yong-jun and Soo-hyun, because honestly? they need it. and that's why i was a bit bitter about the ending. Your video, however, offered a deep insight into what the reason could have been behind this ending. I really enjoyed how you discussed Yong-jun's development as a person. I also thoroughly enjoyed the analysis of Mi-kyung's character, and it really helped me understand why she acted the way she did. and I agree, it is not often in queer films that they focus on the families as well like this. I'm not even sure what this channel is totally about but I definitely enjoyed this video, and its part one. Thank you for this amazing review/analysis, and i look forward to watching more of your videos!

I agree with you, after watching the review it makes more sense. To be honest the breakup fits with the storyline, but I also wanted them to be together, I guess I'm just a bit tired of all the sad gay romances ending in tragedy or breakup....it feels so pessimistic. But i suppose that's not really the movie's fault

The 2 boys went thru so much. Enen the mom was unplugged with emotion. To end up apart makes me wander why love fades so easy for some during hard times. Thought provoking movie I must say. Times are changing and so must we and our parents from an era of intolerance and ignorance. To acceptance, understanding and happiness. Love has no gender. Whoever says otherwise is flat out lying. God save them.

There is actually a way to already watch it with subtitles. You can go on the tab for 'subtitles' and search for Korean and then for "automatically generated' and you'll find English subtitles. They aren't great though. You will have to piece the meaning together by yourself. I will come back myself and watch this video again - with a more coherent English translation. :)

Hi! It's 4 a.m. in my country and I've just finished the movie and your videos. I was so heartbroken, but your analysis did comfort me in many ways. I truly liked the movie and, in fact, although it's painful... I'm happy with that ending. Otherwise it would have been so predictable and easy. And life is like that. What's more, I'm sure Yong-jun did all that things for Soo-hyun because he loved him with his whole heart, not to receive anything in exchange (Soo-hyun could have not wake up). Thank you for your research and for bringing us another level of understanding. And thank you as well for all the information about the mother thing and about the other film of Lee Dong-eun! Also, I'm an illustrator, and knowing that it's based on a graphic novel was so touching! Moreover I'm studying Korean and your voice is just amazing. You speak very clearly and your tone of voice is magical. I think I'll re-watch these videos just as a Korean ASMR. Ideal to fall asleep and be able to dream in Korean! After watching this and listening to your explanations and analysis, though I've never watch this before, I can tell that this movie is realistically accurate. And you are right, from the three aspects you mentioned, two of the point of views are happy, despite the breakup. Life is like that too. Happiness and maturity is found through suffering and tears. I guess that's why the director made the ending as it is, and make them break up. Because not all the things in life goes smoothly. And at least Yong-jun got the family he deserved. This is actually bittersweet, I wanna watch this movie now :')

I commented on the previous video but had to do the same here. First, thank you so much for the video. Again, I love you editing, your voice and your insight into the movie. You think about everything carefully and I love the place you chose to film and how you typed so much in order to give the best to us. Funny enough, I wasn't confused after I watched this movie. Because I watched it with pure emotions. Right after I finish it I went straight back to you Review Part 1 then ended up reading commenting of people not understanding the end. Which made me not understand it as well! But I guess, after reading other people POV and yours as well, I really feel like this movie should be watched with your heart. I just absolutely love it. For me, there is an important part that you don't mention in your video but it really got me ( maybe because I was talking about this with my mom on the same day), how the mother says " You are always fine. You know, when people say they are always fine it means they are not fine at all'' HE said nothing. How could he? The boy had lost everything, almost lost her life. All he got was his boyfriend mom. The whole situation could be healing and at the same time hurting. They were helping each other on their walks on life. Then, once his bf wakes up. The guy has been in a coma for maybe 2 years, ofc, it can't be the same. The way they feel, think and act... The person who comes out of a comma really needs their time to even know who they are again. Six months is nothing. I feel like when he asks him how he is doing and the boy says " I'm not ok. Why are you the only one ok?" aah, how powerful is that! He trusts him and he is finally accepting that he is not fine. You know, the first step to be out of depression is recognizing you are in depression. And that boy just recognized that he is not fine. He could have left, he could have done so many things, but they ended up sleeping together that night. All 3 of them. As you said, they ended up as something more. They are stronger. And from there, I feel like all 3 of them are just going towards a better future. It really felt like they all found their position and want to get better. They heal each other. Truly, for me, it felt like they didn't break up, at least not with words. Not that it matters. They are family. I love this movie, sorry for my rant. I don't know a single person who would like to discuss the beauty of those movies with me lmao Again, thank you for the video! Makes me feel close to you and made me feel comfortable enough to write such a long message ~

@dvd69866 жыл бұрын

정말 공감이여; 애초에 그렇게 생각을 많이 하고 싶었으면 소설을 읽었겠져; 영화는 시각을 통해서 감독이 상상한것을 표현하는 것을 체력소모 없이 보고 싶은 사람들이 대부분인데; 이럴거면 왜 영화를 만드는지 차라리 책을 내던가;

Your analysis in the end was very informative and thoughtful. You depicted the movie characters and their personalities in a positive light whether you believe or not it was a happy or sad ending. As you stated, I believe it would depend on your interpretation of the time of your own life story. You brought forth some interesting values and concepts based on the director’s perspective of his two movies. I’ve seen both films multiple times and have had different interpretations and perspectives associated with what I’m going through at the same time, hence as you move forward in life your own experiences will change your perspective on what the movie entails. Thank you for sharing such a great insight into the movies.❤️🙋♂️🏳️🌈

Thank you for making this. It showed much empathy and insight. I saw this film several years ago and it stayed with me for a long time. It was quiet, considered and deeply felt. There is a whole other level to talk about with the way the film is shot, in particular the (from my memory) very muted colours, with an absolute minimum of the sensory overload (neon lights, frenetic clubbing etc etc) which often provides the backdrop for gay films. You are very perceptive and I look forward to seeing more of your critique of films.

Great film and the videography was exceptional. I'm not sure it's necessary to determine if the "ending" was happy or sad. Life is a continuing journey and holds much happiness and sadness until the journey ends. From my perspective the boys were both better for having loved each other, regardless of where their journeys take them. That is what's important - to have experienced love.

i like the first part of your story, it shows the love of Sohyun & Yongjhun w/ each other, & on the 2nd part the sincere intention of Yongjun to say sorry to Mingkyu...taking care of d person you love when he is sick comforts your heart, i'm a mother of 2, they are gay & lesbian and it saddened my heart when some people badmouthed my children, i'm just a mother who wish my children to have a happy life & a person to love them & accept the way they are..a really good short movie...Godbless 🙏👍❤️

I loved the movie "In Between Seasons", but I was confused with the ending. I would have loved to have the boys end up together since all the struggle Yongjun had to go through to take care of his boyfriend. Your analysis that it was a happy ending made sense and clarified in my mind what happened at the end of the movie. Thank you very much.
