Guys, give some props to Lou! He's such a good guy and we had a blast doing this video. I actually liked his video and thought he did a terrific job-- I just think had he chosen a wide lens he would have set himself up for success-- other than that he did a great job. Also, want to let you know, phone videos are not my shtick, so i appreciate you guys supporting the channel still. The phone is dope though, I've been a long time Banana fan, and this was my first time using an Android. A few footnotes about the phone and my experience that didn't make the video. You can't see the screen fold, it's kinda wild for someone who has not messed with a fold before. With both screens open at 2800nit filming all day, the battery lasted about 6-7 hours. It was honestly longer than I expected, but when you have 3 screens, naturally it draws a lot of battery life than normal phones. The 2800 is a ridiculous in brightness, thats about triple what my current outdoor monitor has at 800nit, not sure why they went with it, possibly for HDR viewing.... Most of this video was shot on the smaller 1/2 inch 14mm camera , the one that they don't want me to film with because its a smaller 5 year old sensor. I set myself up for that, had I chosen any other form of video contest other than real-estate I would have showcased the main camera more, which is very nice, and has great low light ability. But I had to shoot as wide as possible and in the end, turns out pixel quality not as important as showcasing the property in a fun and thoughtful way.

The Ronin is so good that even shooting at the wrong exposure, destroying the grade in post, and used by an inexperienced operator produces passable results for 95% of clients. I love our Ronin so much!

For realz. He recovered all those hilights with prores raw. But truth be told, my editor had batch exported his raw clips for me to choose a few from for the BTS, and he did so not knowing it had applied the rec709 LUT on there. So those clips were not actually as over exposed in the end, it's just I did not have the prores raw files to work off of, rather the clipped rec709 copy. But still, he did over expose and I was amazed he was able to recover what he did.

This was once again better than watching Netflix. This channel should have 43M subscribers to be honest, probably will, too. As far as the video goes, the microjitters devalue the work, but that's why you don't actually try to film commercial real estate videos of mansions like that on a phone.

If you are closer to OnePlus team, maybe you can sneak them a kind question to open the tele lens for third-party apps like MotionCam. You can deffinitely tell the phone video can't compete on the resolution and detail, the video is definitelt carried by creative descicions. The shot of the stove at 11:07 is that a internal stabilisation artifact or is that post stabilisation being a little janky, and the shot at 11:24 seems a little too zoomed in and slanted that would have been the main giveaways in a blind test for me. BTW dit the whole drone fall into the pool or did the phone fall off the drone?

Honestly I think both videos work. Maybe the phone video could be for socials to draw attention and be sort of a promo video, but the DJI video is more the tour type video. I know tour type videos tend to be more longer and slower and it's more intended as a promo video but the way these videos were edited, the DJI one shows things at a slower pace which is good to get a sense of how the real estate feels - the phone video is a cool edit that doesn't give as much "living" feel I think but gives a good overall sense of things with good shots and a captivating edit.
@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL
@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL 11 ай бұрын
Yeah exactly. Plus we both only had 45 seconds, so to encompass enough of a 20,000 sqft property in such a short time, you almost have to go the social route. I did like Lous videos, his compositions were excellent, just needed a wider lens and fix that color.

I think for posting on socials, its very hard to notice, but on full screen all cell phone footage sorta shines thru. We're very close with the sensor size upgrades and post upscaling and all, but its very hard to trick the trained eye when they know how to look for it i think. Still for a shot or two in a documentary, or youtube video, etc.... its more than enough.

@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL You are absolutely right. What a time to be alive in for photo and video creation world. Sorry for the massive reply. There is really no need to read it. All I am saying is just thanks for showing us over and over again that creativity and skill will always best the gear used. I really need that from time to time. Looking at all the gear and coming up with niche solutions for stuff I would never need is taking up too much of my time. ;-) This video just goes to show once again that the tools have practically gapped the users. And every year we get more intra-camera magic and now the resolution is massive for phones as well. So now phone sensors are growing and billions go into software tricks. Eventually we will have 1 inch sensors in phones that surpass todays quality of even high resolution full frame sensors. I can't see how that won't eventually happen. I personally stopped worrying about picture quality with the 1DXM2. After the first few shoots with one I thought to myself, there is no way I would need anything better for anything I can think of doing. I am not printing stuff on vans or houses and frankly can't tell the difference between a 1DXM2 and an A7IV or even A7RV even on a 32 inch 4k display, which literally none of the people looking at the final images tend to use. It requires pixel peeping to see a difference and I must have looked at and edited hundreds of thousands of images. I doubt users can even reliably say which camera was what at 200% zoom. Granted something like the new Fuji medium format is different. I can tell the difference with that, but it isn't great enough to worry about. I'd sooner invest that money into computer hardware, storage and supporting gear than another camera for sure. In my opinion for most productions eventually skill, lighting and workflow is what makes a much bigger impact than the tools of the trade. And there is so much stuff like LED-lights, softboxes, flashes and lately drones and what not to lug around to get great photos and videos, why add even more for just a small incremental improvement? I am saying all that just to say that after spending hours comparing R5C, C70, FX3, FX6, Red Komodo, the amazing DJI camera and all kinds of others I am currently actually looking at the ZV-E1 for real estate. I am starting to realize there just isn't a point to go beyond that, unless higher end clients insists on it and pay accordingly. And even then, there is still a rent market. For me personally the advantages of a small system like that are obvious. There will be no need for focus pulling. There will be no need for big rigs that take time to lug around and handle, because the in-body stabilization with the crop function probably leads to more usable shots than a much more complicated and weighty system would. So I would simply need more time and have more trouble with a better camera. Sure, the DJI chicken camera is absolutely incredible, but there is nobody on set with me that needs a feed, there are no multi-cam setups to integrate, no need for timecode or about 90% of the other things that can be realized with it. I don't even need more than one lens to get me 95% there with a screw on ND to be completely honest. The sensor is still one of the best, especially when there aren't square miles of full length glass windows lining the property. At the end of the day a simple ZV-E1 with a Tilta cage, their fan thing, a top handle and maybe a smaller stabilizer should be easy enough to get 90% of the shots one would need for even higher end clients. For real estate I can have 4 extra batteries in the pocket, if I need them. And from there every little step up adds so much weight and so many accessories and then 2 years down the line Sony or Canon drop the next better sensor in a super small camera and give it all the features and all those accessories become things you need to find a customer for on ebay. And this video just goes to show that the time needed to obsess over every little detail to get an even better image could much better be spend on perfecting the actual shots. Every single time I watch one of these videos it just goes to show the creativity and knowledge makes way more difference. I would not even realize it, if the channel switched to a Burano as the main camera or a Komodo or an A7IV. In fact I am 90% sure that I wouldn't be able to tell if it was all shot on the ZV-E1 and in 7-8 years I am sure we will be 95% of the way of being able to shoot professional content on a phone. I'm always going to be interested in the technology though. I obsess over all the gear and wish I were flying a top of the line Burano around on massive octacopter as a day job, but it's just not logical to even try to achieve that kind quality, neither is asking yourself what the next step down from there is and how to make that work. I am sure if I spent half the time needed to work out how to get the ideal image quality at the best price point which is half way affordable to me on composition, I'd already be far better than I am. And the real question I arrive at after watching John's content is, do I want to be the proud owner of a garage full of stuff that was the best for a niche use case for 6 months at a time then, or should I spend my time becoming actually good at the craft instead without worrying about gear? I mean I am watching, because apparently both is possible, if you are amazing enough for it, but it's probably the latter. More shooting, less fiddling, googling and solving small problems to get that one shot I'll never need or else I'll be the one that has birds flying backwards in their showcase, I guess. Not that there is anything wrong with that artistic choice. And now I am off to buy a new Oneplus...of course.

He should have used a 12mm. Laowa 12mm f2.8 for Sony E-mount is what i recommend. Or a Sony 14mm will work too, but 12mm is the sweet spot. Makes properties look big, and for these big homes, they all have vaulted ceilings and super tall doors, no way to film all that on 17mm.

It would be better to give the cameras, a novice amateur, with big ambitions Until then, he had experienced, taught...... It will be more interesting to see How would he build the scene..... His vision of work..... It's like the real deal

The phone footage still does look horribly oversharpened. Not bashing on the video, it's definitely well made, but phone footage just looks bad. But then again, most non-professionals would not really care or even notice.

Waiting for when I have as much skill and clout as Josh and can show up to a shoot worth thousands of dollars with just a phone and cargo shorts and still blow away the client at the end of the day. ... eh, too much work. I'll just settle with adding a mattebox to that I don't use to the front of my camera and impress clients that way.

LOL. He shot Prores RAW, and had hell of a time correcting the footage in final cut. He should have just shot Prores 422, and then used the dlog-rec709 transform LUT. Would have been night and day better color. I helped him zero on that front.

@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL what about the fact that it looked like it was shot in 480p and upscaled to 4k 🤦🏻 na something is off like wayyyy off .... did he use the proxy files or something ? i mean even a proxy file would look better than what i saw 🤷🏻‍♂️

Josh, great stuff on the filming tip, but low key dissing your friend Lou is a sad look. Filming 10/10, setting Lou for failure and having "fun" with it 0/10

The phone footage is to fast for my taste. The point is to showcase the house and not editing skills. No offence.
