Honestly, I would never even think of going out to the water in the conditions you were fishing in. After such a quick flood, and then water retreating back is possibly one of the worst situations to try catching any fish. You are really trying hard to make content for us, and then catching so many fish (even if they were mostly trouts) really speaks a lot about your dedication and skill as a fisherman. You must have hit that chub right on the head with your hook, for it to bite instantly in such freezing water. Great video. Thank you!

Great video. Like always.. Nice chub.. I finally beat my chub record last weekend. On the Sunday me and a very old friend of 20+ years, went to a local river us which we have fished on since young kids, over 10 years ago I caught 4lb8oz chub and haven’t managed to beat it since, until last weekend I caught a massive 6lb on the dot chub, I was in shock as I wasn’t expecting anything to that size. I was fishing light in terms of tackle and stuff with me, I Literally had a telescopic rod, with a tiny landing net, 1 pack of hooks and some small leads. With a loaf of bread & had my PB. GET IN. tight lines everyone. 👍

Loved that scenery of the frozen woodland and flooded stream . Nice chub in really difficult conditions. I didn't know you were not allowed to show us trout caught out of season even though you were not targeting or expecting to catch any. Must check these rules on my next license as I haven't been fishing for a few years . Happy New Year !

Hats off to you. Regarding the brown trout, you're not allowed to deliberately fish for them, so avoid using the fly. However, if your target fish is chub then you may end up catching trout by accident, as you did. I don't think there's any EA rule to say you can't show them, I've never seen one, so maybe it's just a 'sportsman' thing with you. 🤔😉 So long as you return them quickly, I cannot see any problem.

You missed out on Lob worms etc as Chub esp love a worm when it's cold. Years back i fished a river like that often really shallow with deeper glides/hollows and often had half pound dace on lob worms even in flood as worms are a totally natural bait in those conditions

Sure sucks that you have a "season" when it comes to trout. Here in Central Montana on the Missouri River we don't have a season for any of the European fish. Northern are my favorite, but we catch Browns, Rainbow, Northern,Walleye,Sauger,Smallmouth & cats year around
