I own a 2011 with 103K miles. The car has been a dream to drive and own. My independent mechanic who specializes in German cars ignores some of the Mercedes standard maintenance requirements and recommendations. The oil gets changed every 5K miles and the fluids/seals are checked for all of the systems. The hydraulic fluid was flushed and changed for the ABC suspension at 50K miles and again at 100K. By upping the game on routine maintenance over and above Mercedes recommendations the car has been nearly flawless and in the scheme of things these costs very little relative to the cost of the car. I also own a Toyota that is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned but to me its ugly, boring and drives like a truck. I appreciate it for what it is "dependable" but it is no Benz. Comparing the two is like apple's and oranges.

@sergiofreitas93684 жыл бұрын
All of the issues with the car seemed to be coming from low voltage, this is fairly common in Mercedes, they are super finecky with electrical currents, if you buy one of those battery charging tools, and you leave it on "hybernate" mode plugged into the wall when you don't drive the car for long periods, the issues will most likely go away, either that or his battery is just going bad and needs replacing.

The brushes in the Mercedes alternators of that era wore out often. A brush set is less than $20 but it's best to replace them every 50,000 miles instead of waiting for the car to strand you somewhere because Mercedes dealers and even most private shops will 99% of the time tell you you need a new alternator to the tune of almost $800.00. Plus simply being stranded is *ALWAYS NO PICNIC!!!* When you remove those old brushes at 50K miles and see how little of them is left compared to the new ones you are putting in you'll feel very happy you did.
@sergiofreitas93684 жыл бұрын
@@Matt_from_Florida interesting, I have an 05 W211, it has 317000km give or take, and I have never had to replace the alternator, just a battery, the previous owner drove it to 210000, however I don't have all of the service records, they only started when I took ownership. @@donkgated8074 In Scotty's defense, you can't be an expert on every brand and model. That's why you go to brand specific independent service centers and sometimes (the horror!) even the dealership because they do know certain cars better than general repair shops. I have a charger that shows voltage and with the car not running opening/closing the roof would drop voltage to around 10 volts. Running electric motors on low voltage is bad for them. M113 5.4l V8 is the most reliable ,,easiest to service AMG engine ever made. If the oil is changed regularly ,,they are bullet proof. Just replace valve cover gaskets ,,crank position sensor and spark plugs every 12 years and that's it.

Most of you people bitching about a r230 have never had one before! You have to remember this was once $95,000 car. So of course as they age you will have repairs, nothing out of the ordinary. If you want a new looking car on the inside, and most these cars have been a second car for the folks who drove them low mileage etc. and you want to know something both the previous model and the r230 finally going up in value! You can get these cars really really cheap

Howdy Scotty!!! I've got an '05 Merc SL500- similar car. I think it needs a battery. Mercs will test funny or not at all if your line voltage is low or unsteady. If the customer is willing, ask if you can put a new battery in it. Clear all the codes and put at LEAST 50-75 miles on it and scan again. Whatever comes back are most likely to be "real" codes. I lived through this when I bought mine about 3 and a half years ago; fortunately, it was just one battery [mine takes two!!]. Just my 2 cents! Great work, buddy.

Those are nice little cars. I've seen a few of those around and I like how they look. Saw one once, black, gold wheel rims and while I'm not usually a fan of this kind of thing .. it had an under-lit carriage and it actually made it look really cool. I think in part because that's *all* he did. Just some nicer wheels and the light and done.

I've bit my tongue for awhile. For hoods that use dampers, do not rely on a prop. If you knock it and the hood slams shut, it is not designed to take that load and you risk cracking your head lamp or worse, breaking the headlamp seal and allowing water vapor to get in and ruin your headlamps when you least expect it.

I used to have a Mercedes 280C European model with the 110 model engine, straight 6 with dual overhead cams and a 4 bbl carb. It was made without a radio and sunroof, just crank windows but it would go! 0-60 in 7 seconds was fast then. Independent suspension. It was a nice med green and didn't have 5mph bumpers, just the nice thin ones with no large rubber bumpers. I found Mercedes alloy wheels for it. A very solid car, wish I still had it.

Just as an observation from my knot-hole in the fence, it seems that several of the fault codes could be corroded or loose ground connections. Maybe it would be a good idea to clean and tighten ground connections after 8 or 10 years of use.

I still get parts from Mercedes, they still service and support the car, and I am able to do most repairs myself. Mercs from the 80s and 90s are very well built. 👍👌😎good video...

The previous generation is even better, look for an SLK 32 AMG. I have a stock slk 320 and love it. The 320 does 0-60 in about 6.3 seconds on a good day.

slk 320 as an NA e55 Amg owner I have to say the slk32 is no joke that car is a Little Rocket!!! With pulley and tune it’s at over 400hp and nothing beats the supercharger whine that it packs. I’ve never seen one in person unfortunately but I’ve seen a few c32 amgs which have the same engine and those can leave a lot of modern cars in the dust till this day 👍🏻

If the battery is weak or has been disconnected at some point, the undervoltage and circuit codes get stored in differnt modules. There is no actual probem in them if the battery and alternator are fine.

My current 2012 slk350 is in my opinion the best of the bunch and is better in every way than the e type jaguar I had in the mid 70's. I have owned many different sports cars over the last 50 years, mercs are the best value when purchased second hand.

What I learned about AMG cars are as long as you take care of them from the beginning of their life, they won’t cause you any problem. I own a 2015 C63 507 Edition coupe. I bought it brand new and so far only cosmetic things went wrong and I replaced with the warranty. One of them was the Dinámica two tone seats which wore out quickly so I replaced under the warranty. So far mechanically I haven’t had any problems. I am lucky I have a great advisor at my local Mercedes Benz dealership in Dallas Tx. He knows me I am very particular about my cars so he keeps me inform about my car repairs if I will need one in the future so I save my money. This AMG car is the last one with an aspirated engine which AMG killed already in favor of the non reliable Turbos. In a way still simple mechanically and easy to repair at the dealership. My advice is to buy a warranty if isn’t yours and never buy one on the cheap because when these cars are being abused and poorly maintained they are money pits. I had experience dealing with abused AMG cars when I bought my 2000 E55 AMG. I spent about $12,000 just fixing it in a period of 6 years. Nowadays the car has new parts and works fine but I don’t recommend if you don’t have the means to fix it. I am not a mechanic so I took my car every 2 months to my local Mercedes Benz dealership to fix it. Mercedes Benz are good safe reliable cars but you need to keep the maintenance as a priority. Don’t cheap out.
