Long time viewer, first time poster (I believe the first of your videos I saw was the one from the lava trails) and the reason why I was atracted to your channel at first WAS the subaru. I had just bought an SH Forester myself and I wanted to do some work on it and the stuff you did really appealed to me. Compared to everyone else on youtube who does overlanding with subarus yours was a really modest look, a small lift, off-road tires, a roof rack, and a bull bar. Contrast that with people who buy a forester and spend a small fortune turning it into an off road tank to the point it's almost unrecognizable, that really made you stand out from the pack. At least to me. The Forester will be missed for certain, but your channel will remain a steady watch for me. I've been impressed by the beauty of the places you manage to find and film for use, and with your resourcefulness with DIY projects on the cheap. Keep it up and I foresee many good things happening to that Frontier.

Lifetime subaru driver and currently have offroad moded 09 Foz since new. On trip to Colorado rented a frontier pro-4x. Took it up TFL's Goldmine Hill and Cliffhanger 2.0 and then all over the jeep trails above Montezuma. It was the most fun I've had off road. First time truly needed a locker. On next business trip in Spokane ended up with a Frontier SV. Took it to OHV Park where Everyman Driver films his offroad segments. Even basic SV model with open diffs was great off road, but the pro-4x was a beast. Sorry subaru, but the new wilderness does not cut it. Holding out for next gen 4runner. PS if you want to rent a truck it is expensive, but they usually have a bunch. Rent a mid size and ask if they have any trucks you could swap to.

This is the first time I heard the terms "overlanding" and "softroading", and I am ever so greatful. My wife is fighting stage 4 melanoma and overlanding is a great way to lift my kids' spirits and remind them that though there is suffering, there is still plenty of beauty to experience in the world. Now I'm looking for a new 4x4 rig and have also been looking at the frontier and xterra and pretty much any other 4x4 I can find for a few grand. Not sure what I will end up with, but I know you'll give me some great ideas for mods. Thanks for your channel and the other channels you've introduced me to. Don, I like your choice. I owned two Nissan Frontier pick ups, the first one in Hawaii and the second in Virginia. They were pretty awesome trucks. Neither truck was a 4X4 but I never experienced any difficulty traveling on logging or back roads. My second one was a crew cab and I loved the comfort it provided. The rear seats can be removed to store an enormous amount of gear and extra clothing. On camping trips I used a tent cot and stretched it across the bed just behind the rear window. I was off the ground and set up and take down was really easy and there was plenty of room left in the truck bed for a table and camp chair. I sometimes stretched a tarp from the roof rack over the bed and used extended tent poles to secure the other two corners. The only gear I set up outside of the truck was a privacy tent with a portable folding toilet; also doubled as a shower using a 5 gallon solar bag. I had a custom made tonneau cover made by a shop that specialized in them. Like you I haven't liked what the manufacturers have done to so many trucks. I loved utilitarian look of older trucks...pick up trucks should look like trucks. Have fun, Don, and I'm excited to see what you have in mind.

As a Toyota Tundra owner, I think you made a good choice. I have a 2003 Tundra with 225,000 miles and I wouldn’t sell for what I paid for it in 2004. Nissan’s are very under rated and I think it will fit your overlanding to a tee. Don’t worry about losing any viewers due to changing vehicles. My camping style is quite a bit different than yours, but I’ve been watching your videos since this pandemic started. I have a travel trailer and will park it for a couple of days in one spot and explore the area. Donald, I’m a huge fan of your ideology, go with what you have! After a retired from the navy, I became a RVIA certified RV technician. One of the things the fully painted class A’s would do is apply a clear protective film made by 3M on the front. This film would take rock hits and everything else that you can imagine on the highway with little to no damage to the paint. And in most cases the film was invisible because the installer had ended the edge on a crease or seam. I know some wear scratches like a badge but when you’ve installed guard’s everywhere else, why not try to protect the paint as well.

One of the reasons I follow you was not the fact that your rides were done with a Forester but that they were done with an "Softroader" SUV. But, that was just another attractive detail. The beauty of the landscapes, the little tips, the fact that you don't look for difficulty in your rides, exceed in my eyes very largely the choice of the vehicle. I have to be honest; I like off-roading but I like it with vehicles that are relatively close to the production vehicles and that is what initially attracted me. The Frontier (Navara in France and with diesel engines) has a good reputation in my country. No need for big transformations to have fun on the rides. I wish you many good rides and beautiful videos in the near future. Take care of yourself and your family.

Congrats on the Frontier Donald! I can't tell you how excited I am to see that you got a Nissan. When I do eventually sell the Forester I have 100% decided to get an Xterra Pro4x. I can't wait to see where you take your new rig.

Thanks Rob! That's awesome, the XTerra seems to be an extremely well-loved rig. Hopefully we can meet back up next time I'm down your way.

I have the same thing. I've loved everything about it since I bought it. I have a RTT on it also, and it works great for me. Super excited to see where you take it.

Reach out to WAM bumpers in GA for your winch. I've got their wincher bumper and it's excellent, great construction and USA made.

Congrats on the new vehicle! As a long time XTerra owner (I have an ‘07 S and a ‘15 Pro-4X), I really love the platform these are built on. You’re absolutely correct, Nissan gets a lot of flak for going with what works rather than change for the sake of change. Best of luck and I look forward to seeing how you make the Fronty yours.

Yay!!! I am a fan of what you do! You made my day! I own a 2012 Nissan frontier that I bought brand new and I don't see much overlanding with these vehicles. They are reliable and I love mine! I have done hunting, fishing, camping in my tug boat. I am excited to see what you will be doing. Thanks!

Love it, looking forward to seeing another build and I'm glad it's a different truck than you see everywhere. If you took a moped into the back woods I would still watch.

You’ve got the right rig. Don’t let these crawlers get you down. I’ve got an 05 Xterra. Awesome engine. It will go forever!

I went from my Subaru to the SUV version of what you chose! I had grand dreams of huge lifts and 29-30" tires on my Soobie, then skid plates, then a low range swap, then that fancy rear diff lock, then... But instead, I hit the easy button. This came locked, plated and lifted from the factory on 32s with 33s being a total bolt on. Plus a million options to push beyond stock if you ever want. I think you made a great choice! 👍

It's all about the adventure of the outdoors, no matter what vehicle you got. Congratulations and can't wait to see more of your adventures. 😎👍
