@kc20945 жыл бұрын
The thing about the album is that the first 6 songs were the original album. It was originally just Magical Mystery Tour, Your Mother Should Know, I Am The Walrus, Fool On The Hill, Flying, and Blue Jay Way. It was just an EP. They then released it with all the 1967 singles (like Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane, which came out before Sgt Pepper even, I believe) to fill it out to a whole album in the US only. That version didn't come out until the mid 70s in the UK. So basically the album is 6 songs, plus all their classic 1967 singles that weren't on albums.

@Frst2nxt5 жыл бұрын
I like on Fool on the Hill, how when it switches from the verse to the chorus, it gets dark, and it reminds me of Boris Carloff saying, as it pans up from Hoo-ville to the Grinch on the mountain, "but the grinch hated the hoos of hoo- ville". Also, there's an aspect of this sudden dark and chill in parts of Penny Lane. Blue jay Way was written by George Harrison while he tried not to fall asleep at his forested home address, called blue Jay way, for guests long in coming.

Hey Nick, Just wanted to give you some background for "All You Need Is Love." In 1967 the Beatles were chosen to represent the United Kingdom on the first ever worldwide, television satellite broadcast entitled "Our World." The Beatles very much wanted to send a message to the whole world - but it had to be a message that could easily be translated into every language. Thus, John, for the occasion, wrote "All You Need Is Love." Also I just wanted to comment about all the different sound effects that the Beatles and other bands were utilizing in the 1960's. The neat thing about all those sounds was that they actually had to invent them. I mean, now-a-days it's pretty easy - in fact, it's too easy. There are so many sounds available because of computer technology, that all you have to do is literally push a button and you instantly get an effect. But that kind of thing didn't exist back then - so sound engineers, producers and musicians had to experiment with the technology available to them to see what the effect would be. A great example is Jimi Hendrix famously cutting circular holes in the speaker of his amplifier just to see what effect it would have on the sound of his guitar.

Penny Lane, was just that a street. Explanation is the song. People have to stop. Think of the time, Love. Infact the Beatles refused to play in any city, in America. Where there was segregation. This was the 60's. Turning point for equal rights. Today, people should chill. Put on an album... Yes, you'll have go back. When you could listen, to the whole ALBUM. John said it best. All you need is Love. Thanks bro, 👊 Another great review. Any Floyd, coming.

Their early shit isn’t great
@TheBlackQueen5 жыл бұрын
Fowlae Their earlier albums are less experimental, yes, but they still ranked amongst the top albums of the time and still impacted the world. Before The Beatles went international, Rock N Roll was on it's way out with the biggest names in the genre either dying, getting drafted, going to prison, or any other reason. Radio stations began contrasting Rock N Roll by playing softer Pop acts like The Everly Brothers, Pat Boone, etc. The Beach Boys made some progress in coastal cities, but The Beatles pretty much reinvented Rock N Roll with the same ingredients, but a fresher start. They also were the first popular act to release an album of 100% original material, since the majority of albums in the past were filled with covers and songs written by other writters for literally anyone else to sing. A Hard Day's Night is the first entirely Original Pop/Rock album in history.
@fowlae44145 жыл бұрын
All true, but when you ask some random guy what their favorite Beatles album is, they won’t say Hard Days Night. They might say Abbey Road, Sgt Peppers, Revolver, generally the albums that we can agree will played by generations to come. Their earlier stuff is only remembered because the name is attached to it.
@TheBlackQueen5 жыл бұрын
Fowlae On the Beatles Amino community I am apart of, there is a good divide of people who prefer the early years and those who prefer the later years. And I would disagree with your claim that the early albums will only be remembered because of the band's name. While some deep cuts maybe forgotten, songs like Twist & Shout, I Saw Her Standing There, Love Me Do, She Loves You, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Help, Yesterday, A Hard Days Night, and Can't Buy Me Love will still be played for decades to come, not just because it's The Beatles. Hell, a bunch of people know these songs and yet have no idea who it is.
@fowlae44145 жыл бұрын
I mean those songs were popular. They probably got more radio time than the later innovative stuff. Their later stuff progressed music to an irreversible point in all popular genres at the time.

I’ve always gravitated toward John and George’s songs over Paul’s songs. Both of those guys had darker tendencies (exemplified by George’s “Blue Jay Way” here, a lot of John’s songs from The White Album, like “I’m So Tired” and “Yer Blues”, and the doomy ending of “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”, which was the last thing John and George ever created together) but they could both also be incredibly sensitive as seen in songs like Lennon’s “Dear Prudence” or George’s “Something”. Nobody can deny that Paul is a songwriting machine, his songs just more often came off as ditties rather than serious songs. You’ll see that if you listen to The White Album, it’s twice as long as the other Beatles albums so it’s not exactly one perfect song after another, very nearly, but it does have holes in it, mostly from a few of Paul’s songs.
@Taz-yr6xd5 жыл бұрын
Robbie Clark in white album his songs aren’t very serious. I guess most of all aren’t. But penny lane, hey Jude, and so many others are still as good as John and George. People just like different styles
@robbieclark78285 жыл бұрын
Taz5961 I would say that The Beatles owe more of their success to Paul than almost any other factor. His work ethic and natural ability kept the rest of them on their toes, and it was how they managed such an impressive oeuvre in so few years. All that said, I still always gravitate toward John and George’s songs, many of which would never have existed or been realized in the same way without Paul.
@Taz-yr6xd5 жыл бұрын
Robbie Clark I totally agree. I prefer Paul’s songs, but I have discovered a few of Johns that are definitely some of my favorites. And that Paul is still making music is awesome
@kc20945 жыл бұрын
You should listen to mid 60s Dylan if you haven't. Paaul was obsessed with Brian Wilson, John and George were obsessed with 1965-1966 Dylan's music. It shows a lot
@robbieclark78285 жыл бұрын
K C Oh yeah I’m a big Dylan fan, the 60’s stuff especially, from Freewheelin’ on. Funny how John showed a lot of influence from Dylan early on with songs like “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away” and “Norwegian Wood” of course, but he seemed to have dropped that by the time “God” came around (“I don’t believe in Zimmerman”). Conversely, George’s songs didn’t seem to have much trace of Dylan (other than perhaps his interest in lyrical topics other than the usual Beatle’s puppy love, like with “Think For Yourself” and “Taxman”) until All Things Must Pass, by which time they were collaborating.

Fun trivia about 'I Am the Walrus' lyrics: "I am the eggman" is a reference to Eric Burdon, lead singer of the Animals, who shared an anecdote about a drugged sexual encounter where his girlfriend broke an egg on his naked belly, and Lennon laughed and said "get it, Eggman!"

I kept thinking of Blue Jay Way when the L.A. riots were happening in '92. People losing one another in the chaos and smoke. "There's a fog upon L.A. And my friends have lost their way We'll be over soon they said Now they've lost themselves instead . . . Well, it only goes to show And I told them where to go Ask a policeman on the street There's so many there to meet" I also love the repetition of "please don't be long" with different emphasis and pacing. Seemed like they were simultaneously saying don't take too long, and "don't belong" -- don't surrender to conformity. Can't know for sure though.

It's so cool to watch someone discover the Beatles and put it out there. BTW re "Paul is Dead" when the Beatles realized false rumors were circulating that Paul had died in a car crash and was replaced by a look-alike, they decided to play along, and threw in "clues" in some of their songs and photos, just to mess with their fans. Thus, the black rose in the "Your Mother Should Know" film segment, and "Cranberry sauce/I buried Paul" on this album.

I think the album Angel Dust by the band Faith No More will be something you would really appreciate. It is one of those albums that changed the scene in rock. Faith No More has done that a few times. Their album The Real Thing was the first to incorporate hip hop into rock. Their song Epic off that album is what set it off. You could start there, but I think you would get more out of Angel Dust. The record studio told them that they were commuting commercial suicide with that record, but it remains as one of the most influential albums in modern metal. More specifically, NuMetal. NuMetal was a movement in popular heavy metal in the late 90’s to early 2000’s. Bands like Linkin Park, Slipknot, System Of A Down, Limp Bizkit, etc. had all sighted Faith No More as a major inspiration. They incorporate elements from many different genres to create a unique sound. The vocalist in the band (Mike Patton) was named the #1 vocalist in terms of vocal range. He is capable of an 8 octave range. This range beats out the likes of Freddie Mercury, Mariah Carey, and, the previous #1 spot holder, Axel Rose. Mike Patton is also the vocalist in over 10 other bands that range in style, from the most extreme kinds of avant-garde (Fantomas), trip-hop(Lovage), and circus-metal/ska(Mr. Bungle), to 50’s Italian Pop music reworked with a modern twist (Mondo Cane). The man can do anything, but it all started with Faith No More. He joined the band when he was 19. They had fired their previous singer after having recorded all the music to their next album. Patton came in, wrote lyrics and melodies, and recorded all the vocal parts in two weeks. That album was called The Real Thing. Yet it was Angel Dust that utilized what Patton had to offer. His input took the band into many groundbreaking and eclectic directions. I hope you read this, and consider checking them out. As a musician, myself, I think you will get a lot from Faith No More.
