I Finally Rode Tiana's Bayou Adventure | My Honest Review | Disney's NEW Lighting Lane Multi Pass!!

In today's video I make my way to Disney's Magic Kingdom with Adri to finally ride Tiana's Bayou Adventure! I share my honest review about the attraction and I talk about what is really happening behind the scenes that Disney doesn’t want you to know. Adri also shares her quick review with you as well. After that we spend the rest of the day enjoying the park with riding some of our favorite attractions without using genie plus (I time the stand by queues). Next, we have dinner at the Plaza restaurant which was absolutely delicious. I also discuss the recent breaking news coming from Disney regarding the big update to Genie plus and lighting lane coming on July 24th. Absolutely spot on with your review imo. I love the fact that kids from different ethnic backgrounds have a new Princess to look up to which is exactly why so many including myself wanted an entire new ride just for Tiana. I agree the ride is cute but it looks like a new paint job on a 1975 car and you are never going to get away from the Splash comparisons. Tiana deserves the kind of new ride technology and 4K like everything Universal is building. I can’t be the only one who sees this! Like you said Disney is so afraid of offending people that it’s now a race to the bottom of making no one happy instead of racing to the top in quality, storytelling, animatronics, and everything that has made Disney fans out of so many of us. SMH Disney takes away Splash, makes 80% of people mad, gives Tiana a ride that maybe 20% actually love when they could have kept Splash and given Tiana the amazing ride she deserves and made everyone happy! Idk maybe I’m the crazy one…

As always Dev, you are spot on with the review of Tiana's ride. The story is lost and it could've been a lot better. For a movie with such a powerful message, this ride's story falls short. It's also sad that Disney couldn't make a functioning ride. I wish they would've given Tiana her own ride instead of rebranding Splash Mountain. She definitely didn't get the respect she deserved.

Dev you are spot on ! Disney has given up on creative storytelling. Everything is rushed and cheap these days. The word I always use when it comes to Disney now is stale. We rode it opening day, ride went off with no issues, other than weather related. But we got to go. We enjoyed more than we thought. It is the same ride, but they did a good job with all the character. We also wished we could ride it again. We were at the MK the same day, would've been cool to bump into you.

Wow! This is the first real honest review I’ve heard. I have not seen or rode this attraction in person and it will probably be another year before I am able to. So I can only give my opinion based on Live Streamers and Vloggers POV… so with that all said… I agree 100%, Disney has to STOP being afraid of offending people. They are worried about such a small percentage of people, and by doing so they are giving themselves such a bad name. Disney is literally destroying themselves and for what? for who? It makes no sense. I honestly thought that the attraction was going to be Princess and the Frog, what a beautiful story that would have been. A story of both Tiana and Prince Naveen and Ray and Evangeline and the adventure they all were in… and No Dr. Facilier!! again because Disney didn’t want to offend such a small group. Dr Facilier was good enough for the movie so why not the attraction… As you said, they should have Updated Splash Mountain and created a brand new Tiana (Princess and the Frog) attraction.. now with all that said, it is a very cute ride, I love the animals they are adorable (but they could have been added to The Princess and The Frog themed attraction too.) the music was good… but it isn’t Splash Mountain…

With splash mountain there was always something new to look at or discover. This looks like a one and done. They turned off the lights to shine a spotlight on each animatic that appear every 20 seconds.

I like how they made the plastic plants ,flowers and vegetables look like plastic . We were able to ride it and I'm not gonna go as far as saying it wasn't lousy but I was expecting so much more. All in all it was a good honest review .

Spot on with your assessment about Disney worrying so much about offending 2% of people. I was always such a HUGE Disney fan growing up and into my adult years but recent years I’ve lost interest in the stuff their studio has been pumping out. So far as “redoing” Splash Mountain because it offended some people, I’m sorry but Tiana deserved her own new, innovative attraction using the latest technology! It just feels like a lazy afterthought, kill two birds with one stone, kind of deal. It’s a shame and I won’t say that I’ll never return to Disney but for now my family is happy to spend our time and money at Universal.

I use to consider Disney a league above Universal. Now for the first time ever I consider Universal stealing the market. Almost every single person I know has cancelled their season pass but has still kept their universal one. That says a lot. I’m still a huge Disney fan but Disney has chased a short term market which is starting to bite them in the ass.

I know people say "how can you dislike something if you've never tried it" but I've seen many povs and splash was my all time favorite ride in the magic Kingdom, i mean shoot they could replace it with anything and I'd still prefer splash mountain just cause it was that special to me. Kinda disappointed unfortunately. I wish they would've just built a whole new ride instead of gutting a ride that so many iconic imagineers put their heart and soul into. Good video as always dev!

Great review! If they had built a indoor New Orleans Style Area on the other side of the Rivers of America, with a Tiana boat ride and a restaurant (kinda like Mexico in Epcot), this would’ve been a great addition! Sadly, that wasn’t what we got. I’ve probably been more critical about this retheme than anyone else. Obviously because I have a lot of love for the original attraction. I think it could’ve had some “plussing” similar to the updates Pirates and Mansion got, but it was as close to perfect as a Disney ride could get. It’s hard to take an attraction designed to fit a particular story and environment and change it to something that is completely different. You can definitely see that in how they struggled with the story and some of the physical scenes in Bayou Adventure. Hopefully they’ve learned their lesson for future attractions. Only time will tell.

Agree with you end comments 100%. Tiana deserved who own ride. That movie had a fantastic villian, but Disney was afraid to offend someone. I think animatronics with electric servos and sensors, in a wet environment, are gonna constantly fail. Why didn’t Disney think of this? For me, the biggest issue is the Story makes little sense, and too much empty space. And of course, they killed a ride I loved to build it. Disney, for a “woke” company, better wake up. Universal is providing family entertainment. Disney is too busy trying to preach a confused message at us. I dont think the small crowds are because of the heat. Its always been hot in June.

Most of the animatronics aren’t close to the “splash zones”(where the water splashes off the set) so I don’t expect them to short circuit

It’s absolutely because of the heat. I haven’t gone to Disney during the months of May-August in years, it’s just too hot. Especially as my mom gets older, I can’t risk having her overheat just to go to the park for an opening of a ride. I’ll ride it in September lol.

I grew up going to Disney World since 1976. I get people saying splash mountain is nostalgic but so is River Country, Diiscovery Island and riding the train at Wilderness. I’m just so happy to watch everyone enjoying new adventures! Thank you!

This review is everything! I completely agree Disney is afraid of offending people as well as using conflict in their storytelling. This ride definitely needs conflict because it was originally designed for the demographic of teens/adults. However, the plot of the ride is equivalent to Small World, with a more intense ride track. Some kids like Adri are so brave and can ride that ride but I know when I was a kid I was petrified of big drops (and still have a hard time with it). If the storytelling was stronger and had an antagonist such as Dr. Facilier (or even a new villain), the ride would be more thrilling. That way all ages can be engaged and not feel like they're being talked down to with a "watered down" plot with budget cuts. Tiana deserves better imo so I hope Disney will find it in them to change it in the near future if they can find financial footing.

I haven't ridden Tiana's yet (we go in October), but I have seen a few ride through videos and I think you have some great ideas. I think it would have been great if they could have used Dr. Facilier and his "Are You Ready?" to gear up riders for the the large incline before the final drop.

These franchises have fans already built in. When you change all that you leave a bad taste and the changes stick out and distract from the original story. Great video! I am disappointed that Disney didn’t give us a REAL brand new ride. It seems lazy and Disney already took forever to give us Black and AAPI princesses (since Mulan). The ride continuing to have problems appalling. What Disney should’ve done is re-fresh Splash Mountain and erase the problematic parts and then give us a functioning, creative, Tiana ride. It’s just a lazy “fix” and I’m not happy with it, the same way that Disney has non-AAPI women play Moana in the parades 🤦🏽‍♀️ Bonus: Big Thunder brought the rain 🤯 So glad Adri could be a part of this and I really respect how she isn’t filmed. The pay phones were exciting! Epic Universe here I come 😂

However, there are people out there complaining who don’t have any reasoning behind their dislike at all. Some rode Splash as a child in the 70s and has never been back to Disney ever since and is completely outraged by the change. The only possible explanation it can be is racism. You’re absolutely correct, if Disney just went back to what worked for decades, they would be doing great. It just breaks my heart and I’m sure Walt is not very happy. They also have to stop making stupid mistakes like the Moana walk through, I’m sorry but that should have been opened at animal kingdom not Epcot. It just doesn’t fit in there. I went to epcot and hollywood studios for the first time in many years and had a blast. What is it that I'm missing or that I should be upset about?

I agree, I’m on the west coast so I’m at Disneyland. I revisited for the first time since Covid happened and had a great time for the 3 days I went. We never waited an hour for a ride except for rise of the resistance on our first visit, on the other ones it wasn’t even over 40 minutes. We were able to do every ride in both parks in one day. Ontop of that I feel like I like the new rides just as much as the old ones, runaway railway is one of my new favorites. I can speak for the west coast when I say our Disneyland park here is elite.

Thanks for the tour of Taina's. I agree with you 100%. A cute ride but of course more could have been done. I knew sooner or later Disney would have to replace Genie Plus. It was a horrible idea from the beginning. From the short review you gave it looks like maybe a little improvement? I was so wishing they would do Express Pass like the one Universal uses. Looks like Disney's new Lighting Lane you are still on a schedule and tied to your phone all day :(

Thank you for your objective review. I agree with you. I do look forward to riding it. I will try to keep my opinion objective as well however I so agree with you on how disney is making the mistake of trying to please everyone & thereby losing what they do best & that is storytelling. It's like wine or food. Some people will like one kind & others not. Like cooking - if you throw everything into the stew you end up with mush & fail to create something unique that enhances a special experience unique to its creation. Anyway keep up your great work.

They seem to be afraid of having villains or any kind of conflict at all. Both in film, and on rides. Frozen Ever After - no villain nothing scary, Mickey's runaway Railway - No villains, very minimal conflict, Tiana's - No Villain or anything scary for a ride track that's supposed to be scary, Even Mickey's Friendship Fare has no villains. When it was Dream Along with Mickey, there was a huge scene with Maleficent that made a great climax to the show and provided story. Friendship Fare has no plot or climax at all and neither does Frozen or Tiana's. How about Movies? Ralph Breaks the Internet has no villain, Encanto has no true villain, Strange World had no villain, Onward had no villain, Soul, Turning Red, Elemental, all without villains. Now Pixar is so great at storytelling that those movies are great even without the villains, but still. There's nothing wrong with having conflict. It's what makes a story a story. And I feel like for Tiana's they created a very G-rated story for a PG-13 Ride track. Like Splash and Thunder, Frontierland used to be the "Big Kids" section of the park where you've got some thrill rides. But now they're treating Tiana's like it's a Disney Jr. ride, but that demographic can't even ride the ride cause they're not tall enough. Build rides like that somewhere else. You can't have a happy go-lucky story and combine it with a 50 foot drop. It clashes, they don't play off each other, and it has resulted in the 50 ft drop feeling like it's completely irrelevant now.

I absolutely love Splash Mountain but I would have liked it as a Fantasia themed ride. Imagine going up the climb before the drop and you hear the night on bald mountain theme and right before you drop the ceiling has an animated part with Chernabog.

I feel they could have used props in the lift hill to emphasize you're growing back to normal size, example being Mama Odie's hanging bottles gradually changing size as we go up, from abnormally large to the average size bottles surrounding her before the drop. Also, yes to your question regarding the queue ambiance on Space Mountain. Top fave along with the Pirates queue music.

The ride is not bad, but just a missed opportunity to add a pre show building in the cue. That would give a real reason for finding animals for the party and what this big party is for.

It's not inherently bad...but the story feels more appropriate for a tamer Small World style flume than a major thrill ride.

Disney built their empire on their storytelling skills. There was a time when no other company could hold a candle to them when it came to bringing fairytales alive. Now, they are remaking movies with more parts, just redoing stuff. They should have left Splash Mountain and made the necessary upgrades, and then given Tiana a brand new ride built from the ground up.

Dev I totally agree with your review. The ride would have been so good with the villain featured. Disney could have used introducing the villian as an opportunity to educate people. I think it's cute but could be alot better.
