Thank you so much for your insight! I've just felt lost on my 7 string, and I'm so bored of playing the same old metal chug stuff on it. This is gonna be great for my music! Keep making great content!

Thank you very much for your comment. I am still discovering new ideas on the 7 string. Best not to force these things and let them come organically. Maybe commit 5 minutes a day to experimenting with the 7th string and then forget its there until it makes itself part of your playing? Stick at it! Cheers

its absolutely criminal that Kiesel doesn't offer this 7 string model anymore.

Absolutely love this axe, however I am confident it is equally good in 6 string. Perhaps they offer the 7th string as part their 'secret option' in the designing process? Cheers!

Great lesson. I appreciate the uncommon less metallic approach to the 7 string guitar. It is tough to hear your guitar in this video though.

Please - Why do you choose to tune your "bassiest" string , (7) to 'B' , when George Van Eps and "Bucky" Pizzarelli , (and his son John) , tune it lower , to 'A'? Thank you.
@CharlesHarrisonMusicTuition3 жыл бұрын
It's purely preference for me. It is the same reason I tune the lowest string on my six string guitars to E even though many players tune to drop D. It makes visual sense to me to keep everything tuned primarily in fourths. It also means my two highest strings match my two lowest string so I can easily displace notes by two octaves whilst keeping the frets the same. I would never argue that John and Bucky are wrong though, I would listen to them over me any day of the week of course! Hope that helps, cheers

I found 7 string to be challenging because of the A. But besides the aforementioned inventor GVE and early adopter Bucky Pizzarelli the 7 string jazzers I’m aware of (Ted Ludwig, Howard Alden, Taylor Roberts, Ron Jackson, Howard Paul etc…) all play with an “A” While it seemed more natural with a “B” at first I didn’t want to learn to play it differently than the jazz artists that play 7 strings regularly

Sounds good. What gauge is your low B?
@CharlesHarrisonMusicTuition11 ай бұрын
No idea! In the 60-80 range I believe. I try not to worry to much about it, I'll just buy whatever is flatwound and reasonably priced and play it. My current one has been on for at least 2-3 years, no signs of aging or wear thanks to the flatwound. Cheers

Love those pickups... what are those? Are they active? Can you play heavy with then? Fusion rock, blues... would that be possible? Greetings from Switzerland
@CharlesHarrisonMusicTuition Жыл бұрын
They are the Holdsworth lithium buckers. They are passive but wound quite hot. Put them through the right amp and you can get any sound you like out of them. I still haven't considered swapping them for anything else. Cheers!

I did have flatwounds on this bad boy for quite a while and my low B is still flatwound. I just found the bending issue frustrating even though I hardly ever do it! The tone was stunning though as you've rightly assumed 👍 how do you string yours? Cheers

@@CharlesHarrisonMusicTuition @Charles Harrison Music Tuition I agree, the use of 1-fingered double stops, and of the odd open string or two are the devil's work. I suggest that we all keep away from the potential godless chaos that this disgracefully imaginative, innovative behaviour could meter upon our innocent souls.
