I think hells paradise is good, nothing more, maybe a little less. But it definitely doesn’t have anywhere near the animation as JJK and chainsaw man, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad it’s just good, which kinda stinks but also (I’m pretty sure it’s mappa) MAPPA has been doing a lot lately so idk if that has to do with anything
@kxgr9522 Жыл бұрын
Jigokuraku lacked both time and talent due to mappa handling the majority of the “big” anime like jjk,csm,aot,vinland saga and they even had movies in production and a few other lower priority anime that will air at some point in the future So the first half of the series (which is imo the least interesting) ended up not having the standard quality we are used to in mappa anime I think the second part will be a lot better since the major production will have been concluded thus allowing for both more time and more talented/experienced staff to come and provide assistance
@Elariesel Жыл бұрын
Apart from the opening - which is abstolutely and stunningly gorgeous - Hell's Paradise defonetly got the leftovers from CSM snd JJK. However, in terms of adapting the feeling and story it definetly scored a bullseye. Voice acting, soundtrack, breathtaking backgrounds and added content (Tenza's backstory) are all incredible. It's biggest sin is the animation (which is basically just proper) and somewhat weird pacing - many transitions between scenes were rushed as if they were scared to leave a shot static for 2 seconds to let people breathe and digest what has happend. My guess is that MAPPA pushed it to less experienced staff and cut some of the budget, because the manga has already finished and there is no more need for the adaptation to build up the hype and advertise its source material in order to increase the sales. Honestly a bummer that my favourite of the DarkTrio got the short end of the stick but it always could've gotten the Nanatsu no Taizai or OPM season 2 treatment, so at least we can be thankfull Jigokuraku escaped such HELLISH (ba dum tss) fate.
@ЖеняАвраменко-м4ю Жыл бұрын
If i didn't know it was done by Mappa, i would have thought some studio like J.C. Staff did it. That's why i don't like Mappa. They take every hype thing possible and then they don't have enough resources to treat each one equally good. So as a result you get such a contrast like between JJK and Hell's Paradise. You can't even tell it was done by the same studio.
@kxgr9522 Жыл бұрын
@@Elariesel really, as I said in my comment above, jigokuraku lacked time and talent due to all the other anime mappa was working on But I’ve also said this multiple times that the first part was inevitably going to be average in terms of animation quality, not only because of the lack of time and talent but also because of the first part being far less interesting than what comes after They did improve the animation quality in the final two episodes since that was basically the first major fight of the series. And after that, things get a lot more complicated, both in terms of narrative and action Thus I want to believe that they’ll do better with the second part since, as I said in my previous comment, the major productions will have been concluded and the story itself will demand higher quality

I never got the hate for the movie style of the anime. Like, not only is some of the manga shit just hard to do, it also works as a reference to fujimotos love for movies. It is definitly a different experience, but that is why I like it. As long as the adaptation is good, I don't care if it changes some smaller things. Also the added scenes felt so natural and in my mind could have been in the manga if I had not read that yet.

I always thought CSM was bound to be a “”disappointment”” ever since I learned it would have only 12 episodes. Perhaps because I don't really dip my toes in the anime discourse so I didn't know all that much about it, but I found it amazing, the tone, the music, vibrancy of colours, the epic shots, the nuances, absolutely beautiful. So I read the manga, up to date, in 3 days, and mind you I'm a slow reader. Honestly I found the anime adaptation more approachable than the adapted parts in the manga. But as many have said, what comes next is the real meat and potatoes and if the quality of season 2 and beyond is the same or dare I say even better than 1 then ho boy will this become probably one of my all time favourites.

MAPPA decided to adapt the first 38 chapters of Chainsaw Man for the anime. To give you some context, the manga is divided into three parts, with the first part already completed and the second part currently ongoing. Part 1 covers chapters 1 to 97, while Part 2 continues from there and is still being serialized. We’re likely approaching the last 10 to 30 chapters of Part 2. Additionally, there will be a movie titled Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, which will adapt the "Reze" arc, (Chapters 39 to 52). The movie has no release date but will probably release in 2025. Following that, it's expected that Season 2 will be announced at the end of the movie. This second season will likely cover the rest of Part 1, adapting chapters 53 to 97. The upcoming episodes should address many of the questions viewers had from the first season. However, it’s possible Season 2 won’t be released until 2027 or 2028, so you may have to wait a few years for it.

It was primarily the Japanese audience that was unhappy with the anime, though there were some western fans too. Some of the statements the director made and the overall way he apparently carried himself certainly didn't help the whole thing. Honestly, the entire thing was just a massive shitshow. On one side, you've got all the harrassment and death threats and all that nonsense, with one Japanese guy even making a program that would spam the director with "1375" (or whatever the DVD sales number was) any time he posted. On the other side, you had a lot of straight up racism and xenophobia tossed towards Japanese fans for not liking the adaptation. You also had people throwing out the pedo label towards anyone who didn't like it. 100% this. I loved the CSM anime, in large part because it felt like the people making it gave a shit. Sure, it changed some stuff, took creative liberties, and I'm glad it did. Anime and manga and fundamentally different mediums, so I think it'd just be poor direction *not* to. Besides, if I want the experience of the manga, I'll read the manga - that already exists lol. I think it's cool that we got something different Also, really glad you brought up how silly it is that some people judge the worth of an anime by it's financial and popular success. Imo it's such a ridiculous way to view any piece of art. By that metric the vast majority of all art has no value since it's never made any money - which is clearly an absurd notion, but so much of the commentary around CSM (and other anime) focuses on it. Some of that's no doubt just people being reactionary and contrarian, but it's no less frustrating for it Anyway, good vid! Based take. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on part 2 once you catch up!

The anime has a pulp fiction noir look. Basically in cinematic simplification it already looks tonally "gritty". Having your line art be rough around the edges does not necessarily equate to "grittiness". I also think the anime captures the muted tone of the "actual colored manga pages". I am not talking about the volume covers, I am talking about manga pages that Fujimoto colored. Cause Fujimoto colors the story pages differently than the book art covers. I feel like people have the misconception that Chainsawman should have looked like the volume covers if it was colored in an anime.

I loved the manga, and I loved the anime. I think it was beautifully animated and for the first time ever I looked forward to the episodes ending so that I could watch all the different end credits. One of my favorite anime openings too.

To be fair im not a manga reader but i dont know how people hated it especially if they were manga reader and i feel like the cinematic aprouch was perfect this really grounded and serious world that makes the wacky and crazy moments stand out and both Japanese and English voice acting is great and just fit the charchters so well cant wait for season 2

Yeah I don't understand any of the hate this series got. I've read chainsawman through and even all the new chapters of part 2 and I believe Mappa and the director nailed the style of this story. Loved the first episode when it came out and I can't wait for season 2. Also if you haven't, definitely read the latest chapters.

As a manga reader (who loved it from panel 1 & really likes p2 so don't strawman me) this is fine on its own. But as an adaptation is exceedingly poor at wut it's supposed to be adaptin & that's BY DESIGN, not an opinion. Fujimoto directly asked for it to be diff before it came out, the director said he wanted to & will attempt to make it diff before it came out, the manga readers who heavily anticipated this whether it be in japan or the West say it's diff. There's CLEARLY somethin goin on there. Jus shruggin off the complaints without tryin to understand wut ppl R sayin I feel is incredibly dismissive, short cited, & plain dumb & I say this as a regular viewer who likes ur content. There's vids by ppl like totallynotmark or the homie damian that go into how that's the case along wit prob plenty of comments in other vids that go in further depth too the issues manga readers have. The added scenes don't add much & hurt the later pacin of the anime where things feel disjointed tryin to hit a certain point. It's clear wit scenes like the train attack on Makima & how she retaliates specifically that they're tryin to give a diff air to her (look at the scene when she gets up in the train & compare it to the panel it's clearly diff on purpose). This show doesn't really do the "cinematic" thing that diff or "exceptionally" in comparison to OTHER ANIME (especially MOVIES) so changin the essence of wut it's supposed to be adaptin feels like a waste cus ppl who watch the anime (especially in the west) aren't gonna go for the og thing. There R parts of the anime that have that essence but they're few & far between & NONE of them R handled by Ryu Nakayama the main director. The action director & many eps or scene directors that helped put this together imo did a MUCH "better" job at balancin that simple/casual, yet chaotic/frenetic feelin the manga had wit the diff vibe Nakayama went for & I'd prefer goin forward 1 of them replaced him or his role was lessened in some way at least. The manga was grungy yet colorful while the anime is jus the usual clean dullness wit grays & immense desaturation. The jokes completely fall flat & jus feel awkward in this diff execution. The endings R "great" & many of them show wut CSM should've been here. I thought the VAs were fine(even great) but I get y some ppl weren't fond of Makima tho in her case I wasn't surprised by wut they went for. Ppl focus WAY TOO MUCH on the whole "he said he likes movies thing" but that has NOTHIN to do wit part 1 of CSM cus while there R minor REFERENCES the experience is NOT a look back or sayonara eri. FLCL is stated as an inspiration for the ACTUAL vibe & direction of the series as well as other things. It'd honestly make more sense for early Shaft(kizumonogatari) or Trigger(even tho they don't tend to do adaptations) to work on this rather than jus mappa(I don't hate that it was mappa but I'm tryin to highlight that the style they went for here doesn't work as well they hoped imo & funnily enough Nakayama worked on KILL LA KILL BY TRIGGER OF ALL THINGS LOL). There's a scene in the Denji vs Katana Devil fight where they're on the train & fall through the roof. The train stops & everyone gets out except for 1 woman. In the manga Denji notices her & defends her before the katana devil uses a charged up attack & loses his arms for it which leads into him usin his leg later. In the anime the woman is STILL there, HOWEVER Denji doesn't MOVE AT ALL jus sittin there like an idiot sayin "whoa hey!" before the attack & loses his arms. The woman is STILL fine & gets out anyways like WTF!? Also the storyboardin for the leg attack is awkward before & after the entire sequence. Idk wut they were thinkin they should've kept it the same or removed the woman entirely cus now they jus hurt an interestin thing bout Denjis' character that stayed consistent in the manga all the way up till that point & beyond, made the scene make less sense overall, AND they gave themselves more work for NO REASON. It's jus bafflin as a manga reader & even as an anime only cus then y is the woman there? There's other stuff but in the end the anime was jus a disappointment & I hope things change in the future but I doubt it so if u enjoyed props to u. It tried to "branch out" but fell into a diff line that's jus as typical as wut it was tryin to get out of. Nobody needs it to be shot for shot the same cus even when He DID do that it wasn't the same. Ppl wanted him to try somethin jus as out there wacky & fun as the manga in a way that works & is unique to ANIME. If he wanted to make somethin diff make it diff but don't say it's CSM & in some respects even anime. I could say the One Piece Live Action did SO much "better" at BEIN ONE PIECE than this is at bein CSM. It feels more like the western Live Action of Death Note(which I know sounds extreme) is at adaptin the source. Fine on it's own admittedly but u're lyin to ur audience new & old that it's the same thing in a different medium.

If comedy elements were hit or a miss for you, I recommend checking out the dub. Due to the absurd amounts of hate that the anime got, the crazy good dub voice acting got swept under the rug. It does very good localisation and does not hesitate from using cuss words which makes it very interesting.. and power's VA is just fantastic

The adaptation is the most aggressive 6/10 anime ever made. All the hype and high profile names ,from the director to the studio to the composer etc, all looked great on paper BUT it didn’t even come close to reaching that potential. The director made baffling decisions The music is absolutely dull and has no personality compared to his previous work And the animation and va work are serviceable Compare this to another anime airing at the same time; Bocchi The Rock where everything about that adaptation elevated and surpassed the source material

One of the best examples of people rushing their opinions of CSM, is with the kobeni in the anime. Many manga readers love Konbeni especially due to the scene of her scaring katana and snake. So, of course, we hype her up when we see her at the end of the leech fight and during the Eternal Hotel, but I saw a lot of anime-onlys seeing Kobeni panicking in the hotel saying "This girl annoying, whats there to hype" (in before 1000 twitter stans spoil it for them). Then everyone sees her pick up a knife and go *devils are scary, humans are nothing*, I saw everyone change their opinion of her and go "Kobeni my beloved".

From what I read of CSM, the Director made the best call of making the Anime a cinematic style, to emphasize the love of films from Fujimoto.
@stolentoothbrush3492 Жыл бұрын
Feel like people are so used to 1 to 1 adaptations that something like chainsaw man was always gonna cause discourse. The fact that people were complaining about certain scenes in season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen not being redrawn manga panels proves to me that people still aren't comfortable with directors taking creative liberties over adaptations. I hope that Mappa backs Ryu Nakayama's vision to put an end to adaptations being just animated manga panels.
@snake3563 Жыл бұрын
I doubt MAPPA are going to back up Ryu Nakayama and his vision considering the CEO himself said the anime will have changes in order to sell the product also with rumors about Nakayama no longer being the director for the anime.

I haven't read HP so I don't know if yall got shafted there, but the negative reactions that I have been seeing towards JJK S2 and what I saw while CSM was airing just reminded me that a lot of people who watch anime don't actually give a shit about the art itself. They want to consume and be a part of the consumption of something. Like this shit is genuinely beautiful and, as you brought up, some people will send death threats cause they didn't hang on a single image like a reader might have stared at a panel.
@Ghxurmett Жыл бұрын
this was definitely the best anime adaptation i have seen in my life. I dont understand the hate. The team at JJK were definetly influenced by the direction choice of csm because jjk season 2 has similar choices made. However CSM was more polished and was genuine eye candy.

To answer your concerns about hells paradise, I haven't read the manga, but i have watched the anime and can say with certainty that the animation is really good. People say the animation is bad because they compare it to stuff like jjk, csm, aot, demon slayer... Y'know top tier animation especially the other mappa projects cause its mappa. Hell, i even remember penguinz0 making a video talking about how lucky we are for studios to give us such high quality animations on animes mentioning stuff like jjk, demon slayer and all that and he dedicated a portion of that video to hells paradise mentioning that people on twitter are mad over the animation being "bad". You dont gotta worry about hells paradise getting that berserk 2016 treatment, you can watch it without worries

I think the Chainsaw Man anime was amazing. I think the CG was incorporated properly and the "worst" CG was in episode 1 which still looked good enough. I liked that the anime had different endings for each of the episodes. This is something unique I haven't seen in any anime before. I think the only real complaint from manga readers could be the comedy but even that is handled well enough.

I watched the first episode which was good at first, but then afterward I told my brother about it and when I said everything I saw out loud it sounded so freaking dumb. Let me guess it gets good in the 50th episode. I still don't get why this is popular.
