Congratulations! I have two questions: 1. Presuming no experience, how well did the WGU program prepare you to prototype your software ideas (build a basic website vs. create a new search engine)? 2. Amid the challenging CS market, how well was WGU received by recruiters?

Good questions! 1. WGU provides foundational courses in software development that prepare someone to build a variety of software. I would say that WGU can prepare someone to build something more robust like a search engine but not through a dedicated search engine course; instead, the coursework and projects will prepare someone with the fundamentals to get started on larger software projects. 2. I don't have any personal way of comparing how recruiters perceive WGU against a traditional brick-and-mortar school for CS. But honestly WGU is usually viewed in a neutral or negative light.

Campus is harder's because you have to work 50 hours a week to make a living while studying. WGU is hard because you don't have your friend older brother that just pass the class giving you all the answer.

This is a great question! I recommend doing CS50x first. CS50x is a great way to see whether or not a person actually enjoys learning computer science concepts and coding. It's totally okay to not like those things, and finding that out with a free, online course is better than in the middle of a degree at WGU. Also, if you do decide to enroll in WGU after doing CS50x, you'll be a bit better prepared for the WGU coursework -- especially fundamental courses in C++ and Java programming and SQL queries.

I'm currently working part-time, but when I started WGU I was working full-time. It's definitely possible to work full-time and do WGU full-time, just challenging!

I cannot finish calculus 1 on sophia for the life of me to meet prereq...any advice??

Hi there! Calc 1 can take some time to get used to, so I totally understand. Are there any specific lessons that are giving you the most difficulty? In terms of general advice for calculus, probably my best recommendation is to do lots of problems. Unlike other subjects, calculus is really best learned not through memorizing but through pushing through difficult math problems until they become easy. I don't have specific experience with Sophia but I imagine they offer lots of problem sets and quizzes, which is great. In terms of video help, @blackpenredpen makes pretty good calculus videos, and I'll be making a walkthrough of Thomas' entire calculus textbook soon.

Bro Calculus 1 on Sofia I’ve been grinding this out for about a month and a half and I’m on unit 5 anti derivatives and it is pretty dense man.. I’m just taking notes basically on everything keeping organized as possible however I don’t believe people who are getting this done in days it’s crazy

Hi, good questions - there technically isn't a limit on how many times you can fail a test, but generally you can only fail three times before having to meet with a course instructor to work out a customized study plan before your fourth attempt.
