That was A LOT of blue! 😳 Almost every puzzle I do, I’m POSITIVE that I’m missing a piece, but no, never. 😂
@MaryAnnNytowl2 жыл бұрын
LOL, you obviously have never done a used puzzle you've gotten from a garage sale, in a random box at a 3 for a dollar price at an auction, etc., because... that's a real craps shoot! Sometimes, people will put the date of completion and if there are any missing pieces at that completion date (I try to always remember to do that to any I do), but just as often, there's not even a warning, as in "1 blue piece missing," or "1 edge piece gone." 🙃

I learnt a lot about myself when I did a puzzle that I got from a friend. Whenever I thought a piece was missing I was like ‘ahh! That fucking bitch! Gave me a puzzle she didn’t bother to make sure was kept together’ and… nope. All the pieces were there. I just loved blaming someone I thought I cared for for my own inadequacies. It was a hilarious way to have a wake up call of how I handle stress and how I treat the people I love vs how i’d like to care for the people I love/call friend.

I find it so wholesome and funny that you undertook this huge challenge without watching any minions movies, just because you found the image interesting to work on as a puzzle. And I find it equally fascinating that I was completely engrossed by this 3-part saga despite my mild distaste for the little yellow creatures. The planning, the process of putting the whole thing together, the stats, your quality camera work to display everything, it just makes it so worth it. I’ve been aware of you since your graphic design video days, I lost track of you through the crafts years and I rediscovered you on this channel a few weeks ago and I’m so. invested. Oh my goodness, the centre line issue with the 9000 piece Ravensburgers is an absolute pain! 😆 on my 9000 piece Disney Museum, I had the exact same issue that you had, except my pieces were more or less black instead of blue. I guess it wouldn’t have been as much of an issue if I’d done it in the sections, but doing it in one go makes it a little more complicated, so I definitely feel your pain! I have the Magical Dragon Forest 9k by them and I’m definitely doing it in the sections this time! I do love this puzzle too, it’s so bright and cheerful to look at 😃 and I’ve really enjoyed your videos. Thanks so much for sharing this 😍 9000!

I think the nice thing about this puzzle versus the Zodiac puzzle is that there are so many distinct shapes, colors, and textures that for the most part, don't easily blend into each other, as well as no large sections of the exact same texture/color. Meanwhile the Zodiac puzzle has so many of the same texture throughout, including the massive sky that's all the same color/texture.

That was marvellous Karen! So engrossing! Your comments at the end about the puzzle image will be (should be) extremely valuable for Ravensburger going forward. Well done! This is so zen for me. Very enjoyable and relaxing. On the DSLR - I’d suggest renting or borrowing a tilt-shift (wider rather than longer) and aligning the focal plane with the puzzle as a trial. It will make the whole puzzle available to the frame in focus with orthogonal edges (getting rid of keystoning). They are a bit if a pain to setup, but once done, the effect is simply stunning. Congrats on finishing so well!

Congrats on finishing the 9000 piece puzzle! If I did a 9000 piece one, it'd have to be something like the minions where there are big sections that are distinguishable. I've done 1-2000 piece ones that were made of just a couple colors and they drove me mad trying to to finish because you literally had to go piece by piece in every open spot and even sorting didn't help that much! So, lots of colors, lots of sections...

Wow, well done, Karen! The ill-fitting pieces on that central band would drive me to distraction, and I would not be able to move on until I was 100% sure that everything was in the right place. Your gradient design tweak would definitely make that part less stressful. With regard to what image I would choose for a 9000 piece puzzle, it would have to be some kind of Wimmelbilder - I want lots of tiny characters all doing different activities, in a city, a factory, a huge building or a spaceship. If we're talking existing artwork, pretty much any Where's Wally images would be great.

About the "seconds per puzzle piece" number: since the sorting has such an impact on the ability to narrow down placement (and therefore overall speed), I think it would be better to include all the time spent, from opening the box to final piece. I would be interesting to see these numbers for your old puzzles too - maybe an idea for a cool graph? It would probably be possible to see your improvement over time that way. Hmm, or maybe there should be two different numbers: a puzzle piece placement one and a sorting one (which could then be used to perhaps categorise and compare different types of puzzles and/or strategies)?
@Mac_an_Mheiriceanaigh2 жыл бұрын
yes, Karen, you MUST do a graph with your per-piece speed on all puzzles ever done!!!
@howardtira12862 жыл бұрын
then you could correlate the difference in times when you've invested more time sorting and see how beneficial acute sorting is or isn't. I'd like to think investing more time sorting improves overall time, but i could be wrong. The numbers don't lie ☺️
