PSA about rear tire clearance. I mounted up WTB Riddler 45mm tires that cut through the frame at the chainstay. That was running the factory carbon Giant Wheels. I went down to a Gravel King SK in 43 and it also cut into the frame. Mounted up stiffer Carbon Wheels and they still made contact. Giant warrantied the frame. I'm now running 42mm Specialized tires and they have made light contact. They measure around 43-44mm. I've purchased a crap load of tires for this bike and I'm now going back to 40mm.

@bikeguyconsulting28496 жыл бұрын
Gregory LaFayette The old bars did not have anything internally routed as they were mechanical shifting and mechanical brakes. The two hardest parts of switching bars were getting the stiff hydraulic cables into and out of the holes in the bars, and figuring out the best length Di2 cables to use internally on the bars. I also used the new bar end cockpit junction box from Shimano so that complicated things a little bit more. Really glad I went through the process because I love the new bars and the ergonomic platform while riding on the hoods. Do you think the bike suits my style of ride as it have a more relaxed geometry so I guess it performs best off-road ?
@bikeguyconsulting28496 жыл бұрын
So sorry I missed your post! The Merida Silex line is well rated by many reviewers, and it does have a more upright geometry than most bikes, which is more suited to off-road adventure riding. However, many bikes now have a "endurance" geometry, which is more upright than a traditional road racing bike but less than a touring or adventure bike. I spend most of my time on the road with maybe 20% gravel, but all the big events I do are 80-90% gravel and include 5,000-10,000 feet of climbing so I really wanted a bike that could still do both well. I evaluated a ton of bikes' geometries and concluded that any bike released in that last 2 years and calling itself a gravel bike had an "endurance" style fit. Hope that helps, and sorry for the delay in responding.

105 and aluminum bars simply can't be 5lbs heavier than Di2 ultegra and a carbon bar. New ultegra mechanical is so smooth that Di2 is just a boutique upgrade. @bikeguyconsulting28496 жыл бұрын
Steve Boyle yeah, I threw away the original scale I used to weight the stock bike because it was clearly off. A few comments quoted the stock bike weighed at a shop at just over 21 pounds. And it wasn’t just the 105 and bars. I also got rid of that huge Giant Conduct system and the stock wheels to bring the weight down. I don’t agree that the Di2 as being an insignificant upgrade. I ride both mechanical and Di2 and I can’t wait to get back on Di2 every time. The ease of a simple tap to shift versus a longer sweep of a lever, the self trimming front derailleur, the customization of the shifter buttons and especially the integration to the Garmin all make it worthwhile. So far I’ve spent less then the advanced zero and I might be a little higher once I add carbon wheels but I think it was the right way to go for me at least
