Just broke one of these yesterday while camping. Watched this video today and ordered the part from Winnebago. 10 of them as I know now that one has broken, others will probably follow. Plan on using this to help me change them when they come in. Thanks for taking the time to do it.

Great Video. Authoritative, clear instructions, I really like your approach; clean the area first!, and best advice for newbies, " Pay careful attention of how you take it apart, then just re-install. Good job.

Straight forward, good production quality. I needed to learn how replace the latch myself as camping world charged me $ 70.0 for one latch replacement . Found the part on amazon and searched for a vid on how to. Found yours and it was great, thanks.

Question. What if the latch is riveted to the door?
@Pack.Leader Жыл бұрын
If the latch (meaning the handle) is broken and you can't even open the door to the compartment, how do you suggest opening it to get to the point of whipping out the trusty screw driver? Would it be a nightmare?
@LifeWithPaulLorena Жыл бұрын
With most RVs you can actually see the latch at the side of the bay door. Just reach in there with a screwdriver and push the latch back to open it. They are not very secure.

@@LifeWithPaulLorena Thank you but I'm sad to hear you say that. I'm shopping for a Class A and I will have all of my earthly possessions behind those doors. That's a scary bit of info.

As these Trimark locks are all keyed alike and easily found by thieves, I was going to drill a hole through the luggage door and install long cylinder cam locks. I'm not that handy, curious what kind of drill bit would be best for these metal and foam doors? How long of a cam cylinder do you think I need?

I have a 2012 Southwind, and it appears my side mount (where the plunger sits to meet the latch) is held in by rivets - not the square drive screw. Does anyone else have this? Suggestion?
@LifeWithPaulLorena Жыл бұрын
I would think you're going to have to drill them out and put new screws in.

Nice quick fix video. We are just getting started on the camping scene back in March and bought a little 19' Coleman. My handy skills are zero and I have already been to Camping World too many times! Quick question? What type of editing program do you use for your videos?

Had to replace the exact same style latch, but mine was different. Mine was a E521 style with holes on 2" centers. Had it replaced in minutes, but had to make a few adjustments. I bought mine off a RV Seller off E-Bay and it shipped quickly and only took a few days. Their E-Bay store is www.ebay.com/str/biasproducts

MY 5th wheel has different latches but a friend has a Motor-home with the same problem the plastic breaks all the time so he made the plastic pin out of aluminum so they won't break. I don't understand why the manufacturer has a problem why they don't fix it and make the parts better or is it a made in China thing? My latching pins are aluminum.
@LifeWithPaulLorena8 жыл бұрын
Hi Darryl, who knows why these things get made of plastic when they know that very quickly they will wind up breaking. I would assume it's a cost thing, but how much difference can it really make? Aluminum is definitely a better material to use! Safe travels! Paul
