Given the latest advise from FCO, I changed my mind and decided it was best for me to fly home and self-isolate there.
This is my experience flying home from Colombia to UK via Madrid with Avianca and British Airways.

This channel has always been a bit of an escape from the ugliness of day to day life into the beauty that is actually out there, so it was a bit of an emotional kick in the nuts to see you so stressed out during the intro. Very sad to see that the prices of flights have gotten so much higher even though hardly anyone was on thr plane. They sure were abusing the shit out of this situation.

In the US, the flights are extremely inexpensive because they are trying to fill the planes as much as they can.

There has to be a minimum of passengers in order for the airline not to operate at a loss especially on long haul flights - you saw how empty the flight was. Airlines have extremely slim profit margins, most of your ticket price actually goes to Airport taxes yet they have to pay for fuel, staff both on-plane, in airport and at bookings, plane maintenance, Airport slots. Its so easy for everyone to criticise but fact of the matter is many airlines are going to go under and you can't fly a plane half way across the world if 12 passengers just paid £300. Its common sense!

I can relate!! I just flew home (Canada) from the UK my travels were stumped because of everything and all airports were basically chaos. I’m finally home safe!

This was me two days ago. Had to cut my Hawaii trip short with 6 weeks, and my journey back to Denmark ended up taking 37 hours!! Nice to see that you guys are taking it seriously and are encouraging other travelers to do so as well 🙏🏼🙌🏼

Glad you got home safe! I just came back from Thailand to Heathrow, on 3 flights over 25 hours very similar to your journey. I too was astonished at how little checks there were on arrival in EU (I transferred through Amsterdam) and also agree with you to just trust your gut and the airline officials instead of listening to people online. :)

Sorry to see you're back sooner than planned. I think a lot of us travellers have suffered due to this crisis. I've lost a lot of money on a trip planned next month, but I'm kinda glad I'm not stuck in another country where I'd not know how long until I could leave. Ahh I'm SO happy for you that you made it back okay! I'm absolutely shocked at the precautions in the airports in the UK too; I flew from East Midlands to Italy to start my year abroad a few weeks ago and it was the same - no testing, no infrared scanners, nothing! I know it's not as bad now in this part of the world, but still!! 😬

I made the same last minute decision as you yesterday. hardest decision i’ve ever had to make. i’m in oz rn and flying home to the netherlands via abu dhabi on saturday because all the flights were almost 3000$ which is so ridiculous. hope i make it through!

This video along with your previous one was exactly how I felt. I flew out in January to Italy and was planning on a 6 month exchange, this turned into a 6 week trip instead. At first I thought waiting it out was best until it got worse and I had to leave and return home. I am so shocked at how perfectly timed your experience was with mine. Such a confusing time for everyone, looking forward to going back and continuing my travels when it is safe to do, and I also look forward to seeing take off on your next adventure when all this has hopefully passed. ❤️

Interesting to see your experience. I flew home (Germany) via Madrid less than 12 hours after you did and mine was the complete opposite. There was just a massive chaos, they handed out masks to everybody and checked your temperature. Not one single shop was open, except for one supermarket. It was just a huge mess. Guess these 12 hours brought a lot of change.

i just had exactly the same experience but from Poland. I Ended up going to Frankfurt then Edinburgh to get back to England. I had a proper melt down in the middle of the night over it tbh, but I'm home thankfully. and I'm very glad you made it home too x

Dear, I don't know exactly what aspects of uncertainty are those that really get to you like this, but crying is probably the single best thing you can do for yourself when in emotional trouble. However, don't worry about what is going to happen, because you will get home safe and sound, and this will become a story that you will tell your grandchildren one day. Good luck!

Omgudness I thought I was being dramatic when I shed a tear because my first solo trip travels has been placed in a halt. I quit my job 2019, I moved back to NY from CA, i sold all my belonging to do this 2020 gap year filled with traveling!! My first start was going to be The Dominican republic, I was to leave on Sunday 3/22, but dominican republic is closing their boarders on Thursday :( Everything has been put on hold :_( But I Hope you get home safe keeps us updated!

I was actually going to fly from germany to colombia last saturday to do backpacking aswell and then two days before my flight I got advised by the government that I wouldnt be able to enter the country and to me that felt so unfair because I was looking forward to travel there for months... now I am glad that I stayed home after seeing how things evolved in the last few days. Thank you for posting so soon! I'm in Liverpool, UK from Melbourne, Australia. I decided to leave last night before the travel warning got changed to 'come back asap'. So I have a flight for next week, but I had such a shit day wondering whether it would be too late and the borders/airports would close. If the situation changes with my flights, if they are cancelled, if the airports close, if the Uk shuts its borders, then I will deal with it as it happens but for now I have decided I need to trust the airline and try to enjoy and lay low for the time I have left. Edit: the reason I didn't get earlier flight is the simple reason that flights were crazy expensive

crazy how much the world changed so quickly. when everything started to go on lockdown, we were in the Caribbean on a tiny island on our sailboat. we got on the last flight back to the States before they closed the island down, and my grandparents were stuck there for a few weeks until they could get back to Prague. i hope things start to go back to normal, it’s insane that it’s been almost a year and how much everything has changed.

I was supposed to travel to NZ on the 15th of March for my honeymoon however we had to cancel due to NZ stating everyone coming into the country would have to self isolate for 14 days which meant our 18 day trip would have been pointless. I'm devastated as this was a trip I'd been wishing for years now thankfully our travel agent was amazing and we are able to push back our dates to when its safer to travel again

I just flew back from the Philippines and had a similar experience. Very chilled and empty flight, however when I landed in Zurich there was no concerns whatsoever and no asking where I travelled from or health checking. Weird!

I was in the exact same situation in Bali ! I also had a cry and I never cry it was a realy stressfull. I had a 40H journey. I wasn't supposed to fly home to England untill July but I think it's best to be home with family in these stressful times. Be safe xx

However, due to the corona virus, they may not be able to employ me and everyone who wants to do this program. Something similar happen to me. I was jumping in the antilles islands but our trip finished at Granada( Georgetown). Suddenly everything went out of control but I could come back home

Norway has been on lockdown since the end of last week, and all the news here is about Norway, I did not even know that Spain was on lockdown. These are such weird and special times, I just hope all the precautions and strict rules the nations are making will slow down the coronavirus. It must have been a very unique experience to travel now with all this going on.

I flew back from Bolivia last friday (I was also supposed to be travelling for 3 months in SA) and had a 5 hour layover in Madrid. I spent the whole time in the exact same position in Zara you are in 14:37!
