@@ZiggyMercury It has nothing to do with luck. Human fly planes. And human factors plays the most important part when unexpected emergency happens, on how they react and response. Most American pilots have more product knowledge and experience, to handle flight emergency better, in my opinion. . I often, wonder what would be the outcome, had those 737Max pilots with "MCAS" defects, switch off the defective MCAS and flew the planes manually ???? This is the record, before the accidents. 2 out of 42,000 flights. pretty good to me. By May 2018 - a year after the first delivery - more than 130 Max planes were in service with 28 different airlines around the world. The Max had flown almost 42,000 flights in that time, moving about 6.5 million passengers.

Flew the MAX for the first time right on my first flight after Co19, two legs on AA. Found it a perfetly cromulent domestic mainliner. Fine flying, noticeably quieter, and AA's tighter pitch was not that much of a problem since it's pretty much the norm You do have a good point with how well they do the lighting (wonder how long until bean counters decide to heck with that, back to on/off) and the overheads were quite good, I do hope they become a norm. Heck, sure, fly it!

As someone who flew on Southwest 2-3 weeks ago on 4 different flights, (2 to get to Idaho and 2 to get back home) I flew on the 737-800, 700, and the max. And out of all of those I greatly prefer the max. It's very obviously quieter and much more comfortable in general. The 737-700 was probably the most uncomfortable, obviously because it was smaller and older. I was honestly a little excited when I found out I was getting to fly on one of the max's. Felt completely safe the entire time.

The "fix" of the MAX did not include re-wiring stabilizer trim cutout switches back to the NG layout. On the NG, the switches are marked as MAIN ELECT (left) and AUTOPILOT (right). Turning off the right switch disables automatic stabilizer trim in autopilot mode and automatic stabilizer trim by the STS in manual mode. The stabilizer can still be trimmed with electric trim switches on the control wheel or manually with the hand crank. Turning off the left switch disables the electric trim on the control wheel. The MAX has stabilizer cutout switches marked as PRI (left) and B/U (right), these switches are wired in sequence and to the same thing, which is completely turning off both MCAS/STS as well as servos that are controlled with trim switches on the control wheel. This means that the NG pilot can turn off MCAS/STS yet control the trim with the servos, while on the MAX it is either MCAS/STS + servo or nothing at all, so the pilot would have to use hand crank, which is slow and can be downright impossible depending on the flying profile. TL;DR: the MAX has removed a feature that earlier 737 versions had, hence the aircraft became more dangerous. Last year I chose a more expensive carrier and less convenient flight only to avoid flying the MAX and instead I chose the A320. I will never fly the MAX until Boeing rewires the stabilizer trim cutout switches to the NG layout.

Okay so fun fact about the phone holder on the 737. You can lay it like he did in the video, or using the small lip in the middle under the latch, you can mount your phone to the seat just like a phone holder in your car. This gives you a better viewing experience since trying to crane your neck isn't comfortable if you have a smaller phone

Hi Coby, I just discovered your page last week and I think it is great! You have covered all sorts of very interesting topics. I am a plane enthusiast also. In answer to your question about United Airlines paint scheme: I used to love the red-orange-blue United colors of years ago. Then I hated the gray colors they had for a number of years. After the merger with Continental I was totally delighted to see them take on the Continental color scheme. When United changed the gold to the blue, I was very disappointed because I thought the gold had a certain elegance and somehow the blue just did not look that great to me. As time goes on, I am getting used to it but I still wish they kept the gold on the globe.

It is interesting that the United MAX nacelle is painted blue because the MAX inlet lip has laminar flow,. ALL 787 nacelles which are laminar flow as well are painted white for all airlines as part of the process to keep the flow laminar. Boeing must have developed new leanings about laminar flow that now allow airlines the option of any livery color. Also, by the way the 737 MAX winglets are also laminar flow.

I've just flown the MAX 8 on FlyDubai. They have a slightly different approach. They avoid "MAX" entirely, everywhere they had to write the plane model down, even on the leaflets, it says Boeing 737-8. I was a little bit confused, so I had to look up the aircraft registration number online to find out it's a MAX 8. I guess they hope people confuse 737-8 for 737-800. Technically they are totally correct, even the type plate riveted on the top of the front cabin door says 737-8.

I love clicking on videos about the 737 MAX, scrolling down to comments, filtering to new comments, and reading comments that had no logical thought put into them by people who know nothing about aviation that are all afraid they're going to die on a MAX... or any 737 variant... or any Boeing plane for that matter.

At this point the Max is probably the safest plane in the sky, will gladly fly on it anytime. The FAA got a black eye from this and went back over that plane with a fine-toothed comb before they ungrounded it to make absolutely sure it is safe.

I just recently flew the Max from San Diego to Newark I fly often across country always United and always in either a 737 800 or 900 The Max was a significantly more pleasant experience. One major factor are the less intrusive redesigned over head bins with gives you more isle head room and a feeling of greater expansiveness of the cabin in general . The Leep engines are quieter and the LED mood lighting is far less glaring and more soothing to the eyes during the flight 737 Max 👍

About a month ago I booked a flight with AeroMexico, from Mexico City to Cancun, which is a route in which the airline's 737 MAXes are used, when I was booking the flight it just said it was a Next Gen 737-800, but the plane I flew was on a 737 MAX-8, and in the safety briefing it said it was a 737-800, which clearly wasn't, it was a 737 MAX, I dont have any problem with the plane, and now that is recertified, it is considered one of the safest planes flying around, and as my first flight on a MAX, I really liked the experience, and it,s a great improvement in comparison with their Next Gen 737s

I flew this aircraft before shutting down on American. All flights were in the Caribbean out of MIA. The only issue was the increase in seats in the plane vs the 737-800. They added 12 additional seats. Otherwise no issues.

I would love to try out the 737MAX! I know that a very similar thing happened with the 727 in the 1960's and again with the 787 in the early 2010's. Airbus even had their own version of this problem with the initial release of the A320-100 in the late 1980's! Public faith in the aircraft faded very quickly, the aircraft was modified (in the 727's case, pilot training was modified), and everyone forgot about the problems after just a few months or years.

Not much for me to ad here, but I like that Alaska has free movie and TV streaming to your device even if you don't choose to pay for Wi-Fi. @@itisritripathy6707 Though the A320 family is also getting old already, I have to admit that it is far more superior than the 737. It was the pioneer in all the fly-by-wire stuff we see on the A350 & A380 today and has height for any engine upgrade, which Boeing struggled with during the development of the 737 MAX. Let's just hope they wil actually come up with a brand new aircraft to truly replace the 737 instead of introducing the 737X MAX Dreamliner Pro Plus.
